Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 8 – Sunday

Liverpool require two own goals to get the better of QPR, as Raheem Sterling and Steven Gerrard bag an assist apiece. Eduardo Vargas scores twice for the R’s, Wilfried Bony and Charlie Adam both notch for the second consecutive Gameweek, whilst Victor Moses produces an assist for the fourth league match in succession for Stoke.

Balotelli Fails to Convince
Brendan Rodgers recalled Mario Balotelli to the starting XI in the lone striker role for the QPR clash, but witnessed another wasteful display as his side needed two own goals to beat the basement-dwellers. With frustration amongst the Reds’ faithful now palpable, the situation up front is a far cry from Liverpool’s fluid and threatening forward line of 12 months ago. To compound matters, Rodgers confirmed post-match that Daniel Sturridge is set be sidelined for the next two to four weeks with a calf injury, putting the onus on Balotelli to produce if the Reds are to take full advantage of a kind schedule which see them face Hull, Newcastle, Palace, Stoke and Leicester in the next six.

Sterling’s Still Ticking Over
Despite a multitude of concerns surrounding Raheem Sterling’s fitness after his recent international duties, Liverpool’s starlet played the full 90 minutes at Loftus Road and earned an assist and two bonus points. Whilst the Reds’ forwards may be toiling, the winger has now scored or assisted in five of his last seven starts and sits just two points off the top of the FPL midfield standings. Though Philippe Coutinho and Steven Gerrard threw their hats into the ring with attacking returns yesterday, Sterling still looks the likeliest source of points across those aforementioned fixtures.

Super Sub Vargas Bags A Brace
The Chilean climbed off the bench to score twice for Harry Redknapp’s side in a 12-minute cameo that should see him press for a starting role for QPR’s home encounter with Aston Villa in Gameweek 9. Vargas has now produced two goals, an assist and three bonus points across his last couple of appearances, though at 6.4 still looks too big a punt in a side who have lost four of their last five league outings. The Hoops have five strong fixtures in their next seven (AVL, new, LEI, swa, BUR) that could help turnaround their fortunes, though despite making changes at the back and between the posts, Harry Redknapp’s defence continues to look there for the taking– yesterday’s loss means they have now conceded two or more goals in six of their last seven league matches.

Bony’s Form Looking Up
Yesterday’s penalty strike means the Ivorian now has back-to-back goals to his name, and is finally starting to find his form ahead of an enticing home clash with Leicester next weekend. Available for 8.3 in the Fantasy Premier League game, Bony struggled in the early stages of this season, but his starting spot now looks secure, and with Swansea not having won since Gameweek 3, his rediscovered eye for goal could prove key if they are to turn their fortunes around. However, the Swans’ following three fixtures after the Foxes meeting (eve, ARS, mci) may well deter investors until Gameweek 13.

Sigurdsson On The Slide
His performance against the Potters saw the playmaker leave the field early after serving up a fourth blank in the last five Gameweeks, as his early-season consistency certainly shows signs of waning. Sigurdsson’s recent international displays, allied with his 10-point haul in Gameweek 7, had many hoping he would be able to produce against Mark Hughes’ men, but a total of just nine successful passes in the final third and no shots registered was indicative of his minimal impact. With his form floundering and so many other midfield options flourishing right now, some may consider looking elsewhere once the Leicester game is out of the way.

Stoke Midfield Hit Their Stride
Victor Moses was again in the points yesterday after controversially winning his side’s first-half penalty. That’s now four assists in the Nigerian’s last four appearances, though, despite a favourable 5.5 price tag, he continues to bubble under with an ownership of just 0.4%. It was Charlie Adam who stepped up to take the spot kick and, though he had dropped deeper to cover for the absence of Glen Whelan, the Scot’s penalty-taking duties have ensured he has now netted in each of his last two outings. With Oussama Assaidi and Jon Walters also in the points for the Potters yesterday, their midfield is starting to show some appeal, though managers should be wary that they face a dire upcoming schedule (sou, WHM, tot, BUR , liv, mun, ARS) with those two home encounters looking the only attractive fixtures right now.

he just had a haul of 15

I don't care if Cobham FC are up next... that's not the question... do you think its statistically likely he can nab another haul of 15 or more this week? that is the question

I don't really get your banding about of 15 points or more? Do you see that as a captain success? I think there is a solid chance of a clean sheet, which usually puts Baines in the mix for bonus. His attacking threat is well known. Not a total unreasonable suggestion

              I agree.

Cleansheet and an assist would get a haul of 9 before bonus points.

I sold him last night for Pelle! May live to regret it but only 1 good fixture in the next 3 and as everyone keeps on pointing out, he doesn't really get bonus points and always seems unlikely to score more than 1 or 2 goals

so just working up some combos to see if i can get Aguero while keeping Costa and came up with some surprising ones 😯 with my 2 FTs
    A) Adm + Welbeck to Aguero + Chadli
    B) Terry + Adm + Vardy to Chambers + Downing + Aguero (-4)
    C) Caulker + Adm + Vardy to Hutton + Boyd + Aguero (-4)

Those dont look so bad.. loathe to lose an inform Adm with no non epl pursuits though

You seem to be in the same predicament as me. I cant sell sterling and welbeck to get Kun, so has to be ADM. But don't really want to sell him. Getting Aguero will ruin the rest of my team. Might just do Welbeck > Sakho and Sterling > Sanchez

Umm, five of their front six are regularly in and around the box, along with the full backs, trying to break down stubborn defences, leaving Arteta/Flamini as the only protection for the defenders.

he's obviously referring to the high line at the back as the team ventures forward and an attack minded bunch of mids who aim to maintain possession in the opposition half.

Four of those against teams from last seasons top six., one sat out through suspension.

One goal conceded in his other three appearances. Yes he's a card magnet, but a 4.6m nailed on Arsenal defender up against sun/BUR/swa/MUN/wba/SOU/sto/NEW? I'll take that.

    Guzan
    Taylor Ivanovic Clyne
    ADM. Fabregas, Stirling, Siggy
    Pelle Costa Ulloa

    subs (dier, Manone, chadli, vlaar)

    0.2 ITB 1 FT

    a) Ulloa + Chadli -> Tadic + cheap striker
    b) Wait?

44pts this week so far and 1 left (ADM as cap)

    any advice?

        12.3 :/

Tadic + some rubbish striker for 4.7 as sub.

was thinking of Costa Pelle up front

And a 5 midfield : Sterling, Tadic, Fab, Siggy, ADM

        for a -4 hit

        not sure what to do...

Thinking of saving my FT with this team, though it means if Costa is injured I'll be playing Cambiasso. Only other possibility I'm considering is a -4 to upgrade Cambiasso to Chadli, but don't know who I would sacrifice for the funds.

    Foster
    Rose, Baines, Terry
    Tadic, Hendo, Siggy, Sterling
    Aguero, Welbeck, Costa

    Begovic, Cambiasso, Wisdom, Coloccini

Sterling to Tadic and Azpi to Baines look likely moves for me. Can do that with .1 to spare. That .1 might allow a Wilson to Chambers move for gw 10? Sound good?

Of Course there is a risk with selling Sterling, But I can possibly see sterling being rotated/rested vs Hull after Madrid midweek, what ya reckon?

    Rest of my team is,

    GK Heaton/Mccarthy

    DEF Azpi/Wilson/Moore/Clyne/Rose

    MID ADM/Siggy/Sterling/Boyd/Fabregas

    FWD Aguero/Costa/Welbeck

    Need some love here

Im running a H2H monday clash with a friend, 500£ in the purse

    De Gea

    Dawson, Pocognoli, Rafael

    Di Maria(C), Mata, Dorrans, Herrera

    Berahino, Falcao(VC), Van Persie

On the bench i got Foster, Morrison, Wisdom and Rafael.

I know herrera is doubtful, but i need the risky points and it looks like hes at least playing.

      Is it?

I don't think it's so simple. Aguero is better if it is a straight spot. Pelle has better from and fixtures (and free's up money for the likes of Baines).

At no point has Costa been essential this season. I am assuming he's fit and still might sell him

9 goals in 7 games and bought at only 10.5. He is quite essential if you ask me. Also helps that he has a swarm of players behind him to assist him. I am not really sweating though because I have Costa, Kun and Pelle 😀

        1. 7shadesofsmoke
          • 11 Years

he's not picking up Bonus Points when he scores a single goal, and he's not assisting.

Suarez was the definition of essential. Goals, assists and loads of additional Baps. Aguero is (and was) the closest thing we have left. Walcott is another who can do this.

Costa is a good pick, with great form. I don't think he is essential
