Captain Sensible – Gameweek 12

Our weekly analysis of the Captaincy contenders arrives once again this Thursday evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

This week’s Captain Poll is a two-way tussle for our attentions between Diego Costa and Sergio Aguero. With 41% of the votes cast so far, the Chelsea striker slightly edges it ahead of a home encounter against West Brom – he’s scored six times in five appearances at the Bridge, failing to net just once, and faces a defence that has conceded twice in all but one of the last five Gameweeks.

Aguero has been selected by 38% as Man City prepare for the visit of Swansea. The Argentine has failed to score in two of five appearances in front of his own fans this term, though with nine goals and 57 points in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game in the last six, he’s the man in form. The Swans have been decent on their travels at the back, though, earning a clean sheet in two of their last three away matches.

Eden Hazard and Alexis Sanchez could be real differential armband options for the Gameweek ahead. The Chelsea midfielder is seeking his third straight double-figure haul at the Bridge, whilst six goals in his last four underline Sanchez’s form as United’s patched-up rearguard limp into the Emirates.

The avalanche of votes for Costa and Aguero leaves little interest elsewhere. Cesc Fabregas has mustered 1% of votes – mirrored by Southampton’s Graziano Pelle for Monday evening’s trip to Villa. The Italian has failed to score in his last three now, but with the Midlands outfit sweating on the fitness of a number of defenders, Pelle’s owners will be giving him one last chance before the fixtures turn nasty. There’s no doubt he’s better in front of his own fans, though – the summer signing has mustered just one goal and a single assist on the road compared to five goals and three assists at St Mary’s.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Ok, so I'm getting royally bummed in my draft league - I own both Sturridge and Falcao!

    Next week, do I :

    A) Falcao ---> Austin

    Or

    B.) Sturridge --> Sustin

    Or

C.) keep both thinking of the long term

I have been thinking of moving fabregas on for Hazard for a while now, thinking this week is probably the best week to do it. Would also involve getting rid of Tadic and brining siggy back in for a -4.....

I'm thinking Fab+Mahrez to Boyd and Hazard with my 2 FT.

Any likelihood of price rises or are we ok to wait until tomorrow do you think?

Would of thought we would be ok, fab not set it alight recently and yellow flagged so unlikely to be receiving transfers in or out just yet. Hazard has shown no fpl form yet either so casuals won't be bringing him in.

I think he will finish on higher points total than fab come the end of the season.

Yep, I'm confident. I think he's the best budget striker option. He's about to remind people why FPL priced him at 9.0m 😉

            A brilliant finisher.
Got a nice problem this week with 2FTs and currently Pelle, Aguero & Costa up top.

Tempted to do Pelle to Cisse as next week have Tadic and Clyne to get rid of.
Seems a bit crazy to do so with Villa's defence in a mess but he's not likely to be captained by that many and Cisse home to QPR appeals.

WYT? Team is linked if you've got a mo.

That might be a great move. It would raise cash for a Tadic upgrade.

                Cheers GB, appreciate it.

Tadic to anyone pretty much, probably ADM or Hazard.
Foster to Krul would be my alternative super boring move.

                Good luck this weekend.

          Nice one GP.

He's definitely on his way in, just not sure whether to go Pelle to him this week.
That's the likely move I'll have to do ready for the Southampton exodus.

Yeah I don't mind if one of them doesn't make it, I wasn't that optimistic anyway and Boyd v Stoke isn't awful. I two don't though I'm starting to struggle if Baines is also out.

Would like to get Hazard in. Any thoughts on:

    Eriksen, Pelle to Austin, Hazard
    Baines, Eriksen to Taylor, Hazard

Would bench Taylor this week and keep for better fixtures.

Would get Baines back in by downgrading Pelle (probably involving -4 hit)

Just a bit worried that Hazard might score big this week!

    Baines Bertrand Dummett
    Sanchez Fabregas Chadli Downing
    Aguero Costa Pelle

that's what i'm going with at the moment.
If Fab is likely to start there's basically no issue

I think Duff and Dummett should be decent cover off the bench.

2 free transfers next week could be handy if you have plans to get Sanchez in or move Bertrand and Pelle

        definitely planning on moving Pelle.
The dilemma is whether to also lose one of Fab/ADM for Sanchez

If you had Rooney would you keep him for the good fixtures up ahead. or take a hit and get Aguero ?
