Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Sunday

As the curtains are drawn on Gameweek 33, Manchester City fight to maintain their grip on a Champions League berth when they play host to West Ham United in the lunchtime kick-off. Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur cap off this round of fixtures with the day’s second encounter, with the hosts looking to recover from five straight defeats.

City go head-to-head with the Hammers in an attempt to stave off a run of defeats after setbacks at Palace and neighbours United. Although his efforts eventually proved futile, Sergio Aguero rediscovered his scoring touch at Old Trafford, bagging his fourth brace of the campaign; he sports the FPL armband for many today. Elsewhere, David Silva remains heavily backed, having scored in each of the last three at the Etihad. The Spaniard is part of a five-man midfield today, as Frank Lampard is drafted in to lend his goal threat in support of lone striker Aguero.

Visitors West Ham will hope that fit-again Enner Valencia can compensate for the absence of top scorer Diafra Sakho to improve their output in attack: the Hammers have tallied just four goals in their previous six league outings. Carlton Cole comes in for Sakho today in their only change to the lineup that were held by Stoke last time out.

Later today, Newcastle will pursue a first victory in six attempts when they lock horns with Tottenham at St James’ Park. Their quest to secure three points is hindered by the absence of Moussa Sissoko: he serves a suspension having received a red card against Liverpool on Monday.

Over in the Spurs camp, Harry Kane has drawn blanks in three of the last four Gameweeks but will be favoured against a Toon rearguard that’s shipped an average of two goals per match in their last seven. Christian Eriksen, meanwhile, will aim to snap out of a nine-match goalless run and looks poised for a major exodus next week as we start to reassemble our midfields for the double Gameweek fixtures: he’s already been sold more than any other player in the FPL overnight.

Could have really one without that. As a Kane captainer who only just sneaked into top 10k yesterday. 75% of the top 10k captained Aguero so that is really bad news for me. Why are West Ham playing so attacking? They only had 2 players back for that.

Sorry forgot I posted about Henderson earlier.. just my point of view:

Regardless of recent returns for Henderson I did a comparison a couple of weeks ago that showed that Henderson stats going forward dropped by 60% when Lucas got injured and Allen came into the team. I think this comes from Lucas being a pure DM that can hold his own while Allen needs more support from Henderson when defending.

Second point is that before Lucas got injured today there was doubt to Gerrards game-time in the PL, maybe used as an impact sub more than a starter, but with Lucas injured there's one more spot in the midfield to fill and this drastically improves Gerrards chance of starting. When Gerrard is on the pitch Henderson loses freekicks, corner-kicks and penalties..

Henderson might still be a good option and my plan this week was to get him in but I do think the Lucas-injury is bad news for him..

    1. Worzel Gummidge
        9 years, 29 days ago

I already have him in my team so will be starting him for the DGW. Looked dangerous and his crossing is sublime. Started over Dawson which didn't work out but will be starting him over Giroud for his double and hope Giroud stays quiet against Chelsea.

As a Aguero (c) owner, what should I hope for with Kane? Many captained him?

75% of top 10k captained Aguero. Less so overall, but you probably want Kane to score as many as he can.

          • 10 Years

I'm inclined to think Kun cappers like myself want Kane to do nothing. Everyone in the top 10K owns him (ownership like 98% or something) and 7% captaincy. That means that I'm surely losing out every time Kane scores.

      Aguero -25% ownership

        I'm unsure.

        Average last 8 games:

        Henderson: 6.4
        Coutinho: 4.9

Both have played all 90 minutes.

Something above about Henderson being better with Lucas.
