Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 12

We carry out our club-by-club scan of the treatment rooms, on the day that West Ham playmaker Dimitri Payet was ruled out for up to three months with an ankle injury sustained against Everton.

Elsewhere, Liverpool face an anxious wait for the full prognosis on Mamadou Sakho’s knee problem, whilst City are boosted by Sergio Aguero’s progress, as Wilfried Bony is left nursing his hamstring.

Arsenal

Santi Cazorla was replaced by Manuel Flamini at half time of the North London derby, in what initially looked like a tactical decision. Arsene Wenger revealed in his post-match press conference, however, that the Spanish playmaker was suffering from dizziness that affected his mobility:

“We suffered in the first half because Cazorla was at 30 per cent of his potential, he was dizzy. I was sitting there thinking do I take him off or not? You never know, maybe it will get better. At half-time I took him off, and in the second half we had a bit better balance. He is not sick, he was just dizzy and could not move, you could see that on the pitch. I did not really know what he had, so at half-time I took him off, I hope it is nothing bad, but it does not look like it, because he says he is alright now.”

Bournemouth

Eddie Howe confirmed that Marc Pugh – who was withdraw after 45 minutes last Gameweek – was unavailable for selection after failing to shake off a knock.

Chelsea

The Blues defender Kurt Zouma has withdrawn from duties for the France Under 21 side due to an unspecified injury earlier today.

Crystal Palace

Eagles fitness coach John Salako has issued an update on Dwight Gayle, who missed the weekend win over Liverpool due to a hamstring injury:

“Dwight works very hard and, unfortunately, I think he’s got a Grade Two tear – he’s had the scan. He could face three-to-four weeks on the sidelines now. He is young so we’ll see, it could be two weeks, it could be (up to) four.”

Everton

Tyias Browning picked up a minor knee injury in training during the week, ruling him out for England U21’s match-up against Bosnia on Thursday. Toffees boss Roberto Martinez went on to say:

“We had a warm-up game on Wednesday and he picked up an injury in his knee. It is nothing serious but we’ll have to speak with England and manage that situation. I don’t think he’ll be available for the next game, but he could be available for the game against Switzerland in Brighton.”

Fellow full-back Brendan Galloway is also being assessed ahead of England U21’s upcoming pair of matches. Earlier today, manager Gareth Southgate revealed:

“Brendan is being assessed now, he is with us. It’s a muscular injury but we don’t want to take any chances. Maybe he is okay for Thursday; maybe he is okay for Monday. We don’t know.”

Liverpool

The Merseysiders were rocked earlier this evening after scans confirmed that Mamadou Sakho is set for a period on the sidelines after limping off early during the weekend loss to Palace. Liverpool expect to discover the likely period of absence tomorrow, with the Frenchman set to see a specialist.

Jordon Ibe has withdrawn from England U21 duties against Bosnia and Switzerland with a knee injury, The youngster suffered no more than bruising, though, and is expected to be available for the Gameweek 13 trip to City.

James Milner sat out Sunday’s defeat having suffered a hamstring injury in their Europa League clash against Rubin Kazan. After the Anfield loss, Jurgen Klopp played down the severity of the injury:

“In Kazan, he had not the best moment with his muscle. But he’s an experienced player, and it was nothing serious and in this moment he can train.”

Manchester City

Wilfried Bony pulled up with a hamstring problem at Villa Park and had to be substituted at the 24-minute mark. Although Manuel Pellegrini doesn’t expect the Ivorian to play for his country during the international break, he did suggest that Bony could travel with the squad to get his injury assessed:

“It is difficult to know at this moment how serious his hamstring injury is. We will see tomorrow. I don’t know – maybe he will have to go and join up with Ivory Coast. His country must review the injury. But I don’t think he will be able to play and he will return to Manchester.”

In more positive developments for the Sky Blues, Pellegrini reported that a quartet of injured players are progressing well in their rehabilitation, with Sergio Aguero targeting a return next Gamweek against Liverpool:

“I hope that this week he [Aguero], (David) Silva, (Samir) Nasri and (Pablo) Zabaleta, will work with the physiotherapist and next Monday they will start working with the squad. We will see in the way he improves this week, but I think there is a chance he can be (back for Liverpool).”

Earlier today, Aguero took to twitter to confirm:

“Giving it my all on recovery work. There’s still more to go but getting better by the day!”

Manchester United

Marouane Fellaini missed Manchester United’s 2-0 home win over West Bromwich Albion and will not travel with Belgium ahead of their back-to-back friendlies, given that he sustained an injury in training.

Norwich City

Nathan Redmond was sidelined for the Canaries’ win over Swansea and has withdrawn from international duty with the England U21s, having injured his thigh in midweek.

Newcastle United

In the wake of the Magpies’ 1-0 road victory against Bournemouth, stand-in shot-stopper Rob Elliot revealed that he played against the advice of the club’s doctors. The former Charlton keeper is nursing a thigh injury but is confident that a fortnight of rest will hold him in good stead when Leicester City pay a visit next Gameweek.

“If you ask the manager, I was always playing. If you ask the doctor, then I probably wasn’t playing last week either. I was always going to play, and I didn’t know how good or bad it was going to be. It wasn’t too bad today, it was quite painful and I just had to get underneath the ball and lift it, you just don’t want to let the team down. I said to the manager, if you want me to play I will play, but just so long as I’m not going to hinder the team. I’m going to go and see the specialist and hopefully get some good news off him. Get some treatment, get some strength, get some rest. Hopefully I’ll be ready for Leicester and hopefully (we can) start showing the team that we can be, rather than the team we could be.”

Sunderland

John O’Shea is carrying a hamstring injury and will be assessed by Sunderland’s medical team to determine his availability for Ireland’s Euro 2012 qualifying play-off:

“Rob Elliot, John O’Shea, Paul McShane, Alan Judge, and Shane Long will all be assessed by their respective clubs before reporting for international duty.”

West Ham United

The Hammers have been dealt a major blow after Dimitri Payet was ruled out for around three months with an ankle injury sustained against Everton on Saturday. His replacement against the Toffees, Enner Valencia, was forced off with a similar complaint and will be assessed by a specialist early next week, the club’s official website has revealed.

So, with the forwards clicking into gear, are we ditching the 3-5-2?

For me it is a question whether I'll bring in Aguero or not. I think I will hold on to 3-4-3 for now. Also Hazard looked much better, so with him in the mix if he finds the fpl point too, Aguero does not seems vital for me. Kane, Lukaku and Vardy offers plenty of striking force, and maybe Benteke too.

Isn't it the other way round? 🙂

That's a tough one...but considering how insane and consistent Ozil has been so far, its him over Kosc for me.

With the way he's going, he's more likely to get an assist than Arsenal a cleansheet.

I don't think so - based on a very small sample size of about 2 or 3 games. For all I know, could just be Ozil getting better/more involved. Couldn't say there was a correlation. 55% assist involvement's enough for me though. 😉

    Here's a stat(or two) for you...

When Ozil's been on the pitch, he has been involved in 55% of Arsenal's goals this season in the Premier League. Scoring once and assisting a teammate 10 times.

Since Walcott's injury, and Giroud's introduction the the starting 11, Ozil has assisted 4 of Arsenal's 6 goals (67%).

now we just need Sanchez stats with and without Ozil and stats with and without Giroud

Not sure what gave you that idea. I almost always do early transfers. Playing the money game is a sensible and rewarding strategy further down the line too. As it stands, i have a benching headache so wouldn't be fussed if someone else got injured. They'd likely be a popular player, and therefore be an issue for other teams too.

    Pelle > Kane CONFIRMED

    Dave (Bego)
Cresswell - Williams - Kompany (Evans, Targett)
Payet - Mahrez - Alexis - Ozil (Redmond)
    Vardy - Kane - Martial

    0.7 ITB, 1FT

    Next I'll be looking at

    Payet > Silva
    Redmond > 4.5-4.9 mid
    Bego > Hennessey

    - 8 this GW but it will be worth it in the longer run

Does not look good mate. Why all the hits? Bego got a great fix coming up. I would just replace Payet with Willian or Bolasie. Or even Deulofeu.

Why does it even matter who Bego plays next? There is now way I'm benching DDG. I need to free up that extra 1m from the reserve goalie for City cover, in this case Silva.

Yea I had to waste a transfer on my keeper, like you say to save some cash to spend elswhere. If its for long term then I would say take the hit now. Yesterday I took a -4 and did

          Lloris/kdb/pelle > Butland/mahrez/aguero

Will probably hold the payet transfer until the next gw as dont want to take another hit so will play 4-3-3

    GW15 - KdB -> Ozil

Aguero has dropped only 0.2m despite 650k transfers out...
Gomis has dropped 0.7m with 600k transfers out...

I know price falls thresholds are based on ownership, but have FPL been playing about with Auger's flag to slow his price drop?!?

            • 14 Years
            8 years, 6 months ago

Well, Ive taken a hit already to do KdB > Ozil. Sounds silly, but all part of the Aguero kitty plan and I consider them about equal in attacking returns so Ozil clearly the better value.

Silva/Sterling could always come in at a later date.

Payed gives me an easy benching option this week. If there are any further international injuries (always likely) then I've a 4th defender (Toby) that I'd like to play who's benched at the moment. Any more and I think I'd sell Payet this game week for a hit.

Have both. I'm favouring Coutinho slightly at the moment, although Mané has a greater goal threat. Burnt me twice as captain option recently though.

I like the Tadic pick at 1m less, plus I think Barkley will be more attacking against worse opposition for Everton.

Based on what, Sinik? Aguero had 400k transfers out in a single gameweek and dropped 0.1m. Gomis had 125k transfers out and dropped 0.1m. Payet is on 86k.

because it's a two-week long gameweek and even though things are historically slower, the more people see that he's out 3 months the more they'll sell now. longer break means more chance for exposure. casuals have no patience and don't care about hits, they want fit players. look at them selling Bellerin enough to make him fall possibly even though it's very likely he's fine for GW13

also I'm fairly sure that FPL manipulates Aguero the way they did with RVP so that the players stay in the outlier price tier and help differentiate teams more.

          1. Twisted Saltergater
            • 14 Years
            8 years, 6 months ago

Yeah, you're probably right. Payed getting injured before an international gameweek is really poor timing, plus the news of him being out for up to 3 months means there's no reason to keep hold.

Let's see. If he survives the drop tonight - which is looking likely - then transfers out should slow right down until a week Thursday. Will be interesting!

Who would you play if you benched him?

I personally think it's worth a transfer out anyway, he'll be out for three months and will fall in price so why wait?
