Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 22 – Sunday

Wayne Rooney maintains his fine scoring form by bagging United’s winner at Anfield. Stoke and Arsenal play out a goalless draw at the Britannia, with Mesut Ozil missing out due to a minor foot problem.

Rooney Wins it for Red Devils

Courtesy of Wayne Rooney’s fourth league goal in three outings, Manchester United edged past Liverpool at Anfield, putting them right back in contention for a Champions League berth. The Red Devils legend – who surpassed Thierry Henry (175) as the top scorer for a single club (176) in the Premier League – is enjoying a resurgence of late and with 33 FPL points over the last trio of fixtures, has emerged as a viable differential at the 9.9 mark ahead of back-to-back home ties (SOU, STO).

Marouane Fellaini turned provider for his second assist in as many starts but remains on the periphery of our thinking. In light of Juan Mata’s absence of form (no attacking returns since Gameweek 12), we’re still searching for an attractive route into Man United’s lacklustre midfield – indeed, the Spaniard was reduced to sub duties for the second match in succession as Jesse Lingard (4.2) kept his role on the flank.

United’s trip to Merseyside yielded their 11th clean sheet of the campaign – more than any other side. Given the surfeit of injured defenders at the club, Chris Smalling represents the only secure route into their rearguard. Although he carries a prohibitive price tag (6.7), match-ups against Southampton, Stoke and Sunderland harbour strong shut-out potential over the next four Gameweeks.

Klopp’s Men Stutter Again

Defeat at the hands of Man United means that Liverpool lay claim to just two wins across their previous six outings, with inconsistency at both ends making it hard to pinpoint any tantalising pick-ups among Jurgen Klopp’s squad. Certainly, the Reds are suffering from a dreadful shot-conversion rate (4.2% since Gameweek 17) that stems from their lack of a consistent presence up front. That being said, their favourable batch of upcoming fixtures (nor, lei, SUN, avl) could reward those Fantasy managers who take a punt on the likes of Roberto Firmino, if the Brazilian can rediscover the form that served up a brace against Arsenal last Wednesday.

Ozil Absence Blunts Gunners

Mesut Ozil’s omission from the matchday squad was the chief talking point prior to Arsenal’s 0-0 draw against Stoke City. The Germany international had an inflamed foot but is expected to be passed fit for the Gunners’ home tie against Chelsea next Sunday.

Arsenal struggled to carve open the hosts’ organised back line in the absence of their midfield orchestrator – notching 14 fewer key passes than Newcastle United (20) this Gameweek – but did manage to secure their third clean sheet in four matches. Hector Bellerin, Nacho Monreal and Laurent Koscielny all serve as alluring routes into a defence that enjoys three home encounters over the next four Gameweeks (CHE, SOU, bou, LEI).

Another shut-out for Potters

The Potters chalked up six more attempts (14 compared to eight) and double Arsenal’s tally of shots on target (six to three) but ultimately failed to muster a single big chance without the injured Xherdan Shaqiri pulling the strings. Nonetheless, Jack Butland’s 24% ownership profited from the Staffordshire outfit’s first clean sheet in four fixtures. Given that Stoke have accrued the joint-second-most clean sheets on the road (five), they’ll fancy their chances of rebuffing Leicester City’s misfiring attack (two goals in five) next Gameweek, whilst upcoming trips to United and Bournemouth won’t hold much fear in light of their defensive form.

I would do Arnie > Payet for sure.

Would you rather have Lukaku or Kane in the medium to long-term? Obviously I'd prefer both, but I'm not made of money! Currently have Aguero-Kane-Ighalo strikeforce, having sold Lukaku before the last two games.

Exactly the same as what I did.

Both players fixtures look juicy. As does Ighalo's... Its tough.

I'm looking at shifting KDB to fund an Ighalo > Lukaku move (but will probably have to be GW24 now tbh)

      1. SAY SOMETHING SIGNIFICANT
        • 8 Years
        8 years, 3 months ago

Yeah, that's something I've looked at too. KdB has obviously been poor away from home but, it's possible with Aguero back, that the whole City will pick up for away games. Ideally I want either KdB or Silva, but I might have to settle for Payet or Willian instead. I wouldn't mind Yaya either tbh, but I'm slightly concerned about his game time.

...why do you prefer KdB over Silva?

27 chances created in the last 6 weeks for a start. I do like silva I just think KDB is steady away and will chip in with fair share of goals too. Should get a chance with direct free kicks as well. Not saying silva a bad option, I just don't see the sense in switching kdb > silva based on saturday.

If aguero had of scored that last one himself (which he could have easily done) you'd be looking at just one assist from silva and two from kdb.

Potential minutes swings it for me - should more than make up the 0.9 or so price difference. Plus - easier to downgrade than upgrade. I do like Silva, though - much better player to watch.

Not really. If you have the money I think KDB's the better call - if you do need to downgrade KDB for, say, cash for a must-have striker - then Silva would definitely be an option.

Ok so I just ran the comparison tool. Silva trounces kdb against palace. Maybe I need to monitor myself. Yeah minutes are a big thing agree. Silva likely to be withdrawn early and 'protected' if a big game on the horizon. Will keep an eye on them both next few games and then reassess.

Silva vs KdB in last 4 game weeks:

                KdB:

                min 344
                KP 16
                Assist 1
                Gls 0

                Silva:

                min 260
                KP 14
                Assist 1

Ok, so not much in it. Silva shades it based on fact he's played less minutes. You've def got me thinking but at this stage I don't have the FT to do it. Maybe one for the WC but could be pushed if needs be. Cheers.

I know tell me about it. I do feel I'm flogging a dead horse at times, but if you looks at the games city have scored, KDB is usually always good for at least an assist. He did have a fairly poor game on sat, but think his role was slightly different with inacho playing. I love silva so wouldn't need too much persuasion to get him in, but not considering it just yet.

Winj is annoying I must admit. His stata are actually pretty good though. I sold barkley a few weeks back and just know he's going to come back to haunt me next couple games. Not getting him back in though.

    Who to play?

    A- Schmeicel
    B- Butland

Same GKs and leaning toward Schmeichel, but I've benched quite a lot of Butland's points and may not take the risk again.

Same here, when its an easy choice like the Villa game, I chose Schmeicel and Butland got the cleanie. Its silly really

        Go for Butland then ?

Probably Butland is the sensible choice yeah, but it may even come down to a coin-toss for me!

Just having a look at this as a wildcard team...thoughts would be great. Thanks

Butland, McCarthy (hate keeper rotations, think they're a waste of mullah)
    Toby, Evans, Moreno, Simpson, Daniels
    Ozil, Yaya, Wijnaldum, Mahrez, Payet
    Rooney, Kane, Lukaku

got rid of Ivanovic, KDB, Alli and Igahlo do this team.

I like it if you are really chasing. Still I think a WC team without Aguero or Silva/KBD is very risky.

I shipped out Mahrez myself, but I guess that is a question if you believe he can turn his current form around. Be aware of Wijn home/away form and maybe consider another option for a few gw's.

All that said I don't think 4 (non VITAL) changes is enough for a wildcard. Best of luck

Don't think you are changing your team enough to warrant playing WC. Consider saving a TF and making same 4 changes in 2 weeks time when Wijnaldums fixtures are at home. I think you would be better taking a -8 then and saving your WC to boost a DGW later on. Or have you already pressed the WC button.

Your suggested team is a good one and sufficiently different to template teams to give you a few differentials IMO.

How does this 2 week plan sound?

    GW23: Save FT

    GW24: KDB & Ighalo ➡ Aguero & MID 7.3m or under

I like it. 😉 Thinking similar though I may have to do a GK trade 🙁

After (NEW) in GW 24 he has (CHE) then (tot), 2 pretty difficult fixtures IMO.

          True true
But he scored against both a few weeks back
Newcastle is not too shabby either.

Van Dijk to Daniels or Dawson to Daniels? Downgrading defence to make room for Sanchez potentially.

Van Dijk has the form but Dawson has Villa and Swansea next, as opposed to United and Arsenal...

Hold for now but Dawson if you can't. WBA defence is awful.

Have 2 FTs and pretty happy with my team so can't really do anything other than try to make some money for Sanchez.

Not this week. Holding at least until Sanchez is back and firing, then may sell him or Ozil depending on form.

I wouldn't say guaranteed. I'm a firm believer that KDBs limited returns away from home are more because of the opposition than the venue. However I'm not expecting much from West Ham away - Sunderland away is a different matter.

Also, Kane to Lukaku for free a good move?

      Why is everyone doing this...
I got rid of Kane last week, for Aguero, and now I'm wanting him back
      His fixtures are still good...
