Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 32 – Sunday

Wes Morgan grabs the only goal of the match as Leicester take a step nearer to the title with a fourth successive 1-0 win. Elsewhere, Anthony Martial leaps onto our double Gameweek radars by firing United to victory over Everton at Old Trafford.

Morgan wins it for Foxes

Leicester City stretched out their lead at the top to seven points by way of their fourth consecutive 1-0 win.

Wes Morgan did the damage for the hosts with his first goal of the campaign, latching onto Christian Fuchs’ cross. The latter now boasts four assists and has amassed the second-most bonus points (21) of any defender on the Fantasy market.

Although the Foxes lack a double Gameweek, they have now recorded shut-outs in seven of their previous eight home ties and remain at the King Power Stadium for two of the next three Gameweeks, encouraging investors in their defence to hold tight.

In the wake of his blank against Saints, Jamie Vardy has now failed to net in six successive starts, which will prompt a portion of his 54% ownership reinvest their funds in Romelu Lukaku before Everton’s back-to-back double Gameweeks.

As for Riyad Mahrez, his explosive potential (11 double-figure hauls) should deter many owners from maxing out on double Gameweek players.

Saints struggle on the road again

Southampton were stifled by the Foxes’ regimented defence and were only able to muster two shots on target throughout the encounter.

Ronald Koeman’s side have failed to score in three of their last five away matches and now hit the road in three of the next five Gameweeks, which includes trips to Everton and Spurs, in addition to a home encounter with Man City. Their lack of a double Gameweek and poor defensive record of late (nine goals conceded and zero clean sheets in six) render their squad a relative non-factor during the final stages of the season.

Martials notches United’s winner

Manchester United remain in the hunt for a Champions League berth as they carved out a third 1-0 victory in four outings.

Anthony Martial proved to be the difference between the two sides, bagging his third goal (Timothy Fosu-Mensah assist) in seven starts. Given that Wayne Rooney’s imminent return makes Marcus Rashford a rotation risk, the 7.6-priced Martial represents the choice route into the Red Devils’ attack for their mouth-watering double Gameweek (AVL & CRY).

Man United’s tenth home clean sheet of the campaign underlined the merits of targeting their defence during the double. On that note, both Daley Blind (fatigue) and Marco Rojo (jet-lag) were subbed off at Old Trafford, highlighting the fact that Chris Smalling and David De Gea are the safest options for Gameweek 33 wildcarders.

Out-of-sorts Toffees fail to impress

Everton suffered their third straight defeat and have now tasted victory just once since Gameweek 26.

Romelu Lukaku had an afternoon to forget against Louis van Gaal’s charges, mustering a solitary off-target attempt. Nonetheless, the Belgian marksman is sure to be one of the most popular pick-ups ahead of the Toffees’ aforementioned successive doubles in Gameweek 33 (wat &cry) and Gameweek 34 (SOU & liv) – indeed, he already ranks top for “transfers in” (62,000) at the time of writing.

For those eyeing up the Toffees midfielders, Aaron Lennon (5.6) was intriguingly handed a central support role behind Lukaku as Gerard Deulofeu started on the right wing. Lennon then switched back to the flank after the young Spaniard was withdrawn just after the hour mark.

Roberto Martinez switched things up at the back, benching Ramiro Funes Mori to facilitate John Stones’ reinstatement in a four-man defence. In terms of tapping into Everton’s backline potential, goalkeeper Joel Robles (4.3) is the standout pick by virtue of his budget price tag, while skipper Phil Jagielka (5.1) – who fired two attempts from inside the box yesterday – seems the safest route into the defence.

I'm probably going to have Welbech as a third striker for GW33. I'd like to hear what people think about this? My team is below. Holding my WC until GW 36.

Sorry to add to the RMT's but could I please get some feedback on this?

So with a limited budget (102.1) I've put this WCT together. Is it okay considering the budget?

    DDG Darlow
    Delaney Sakho Gabriel Jagielka Simpson
    Sanchez Firmino Bolasie Payet Mahrez
    Kun Lukaku Martial

    This leaves me with 8 for GW35 with 3 transfers(-4) to field 11 and 7 DGW37 players.

I was firmly on the do not sell Kane wagon until I saw how good bench boosted DGW team will be without him..

I'm keeping him. I'm trying not to go overboard on DGWers, and he's been consitent. If, for example, someone like Martial fails to score in a DGW he gets 4 total. Kane scores once and he's on 6 pre bonus.

    De Gea, Darlow
    Bellerin, Reid, Sakho, Gabriel, Simpson
    Sanchez, Coutinho, Payet, ???, ???
    Aguero, Kane, Lukaku

    A) Alli, Mahrez

(Currently have these two, selling price only 5.8 and 6.5 respectively, so lose a lot of selling. Keeping them also means I can field 11 in GW35. But no DGWs for either).

    B) Firmino, Lanzini

(Gives me 12 DGWers, but means I'm doubled up on LIV and WHU, not sure if I like all my eggs in two baskets. Also would have to do something with Lanzini in GW35 to field 11 players).

    Which option is best? Ta!

      Nice. Thanks lads.
I guess it has to be done with more doubles in 34 but man its hard to turn up TC e.g. Sanchez in 34.
Can't see anywhere near as good TC opportunities in GW37

I was just discussing this on Twitter. Here's how I see it (for those of us without a good DGW team for 33/34).

If your bench boost players simply turn up and get no attacking returns that's 16 points straight away. A TC Sanchez hat trick will only net 4 more points than that.

In GW37 while the TC option might not be as good there's still a chance you get a hat trick out of someone. Whereas you won't still have the 14-15 DGW player option for bench boost.

    Mignolet

Anyone watch the Liverpool Tottenham game? If so, how did Lallana look?

Went with him over Cout as a punt due to Cout's late long flight back.. Obviously didn't pay off this week but wondering whether to stick and hope it gets better or just right my wrong.. He'd had returns in 4 of his last 6 before Saturday's game.

I'm not debating that Kane is in fact a better pick than Martial, even with Martial's DGW

But I think it could be considered a close enough call that the huge price difference and subsequent improvements to my team are more than worth it.

    2. Williams > Lovren. play Hennessey or Forster. Play Simpson or Bellerin
    3. Alli > Lennon. Play Hennessey or Forster. Bench Ozil, Payet, Kane, or Mahrez
    4. Forster > Robles. Play Robles. Play Simpson and Bellerin.

Right I've bitten the bullet and dropped Mahrez.

    Leaves me with this:

    De Gea Darlow
    Bellerin Gabriel Sakho Simpson Delaney
    Coutinho Payet Sanchez KDB Bolasie
    Martial Kun Kaku

3 DGW in 33 and 14 in 34. Should do me nicely.

Just keen to bounce a couple of thoughts around:

    A) Is it a bit silly to go without a LIV midfielder? My current mids are KDB - Sanchez - Payet - Mahrez - Lennon with little budget left

    B) I want to double-up on United defenders, but is it worth risking one of their back four? (Will have DDG)
