Armed with a wealth of information from the first Gameweek of the season, our community writers have been assessing the value of popular and under the radar options, as well as discovering how well some of the Fantasy Premier League’s most experienced managers fared. Our round-up also looks at the battle lines already being drawn up between veterans and casual managers, a goalkeeping soap opera and the mixed fortunes of Fantasy football’s cheapest players. Elsewhere, we catch up with the statisticians in the Members area take a peak at the key numbers of Gameweek 1’s most attacking players and we also find out who has claimed early bragging rights in our community competitions.

The Community Articles

Players from the two Manchester clubs dominated the thinking of our community writers this week with TimT pondering whether the 74,000 Fantasy Premier League managers who have drafted in United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic this week may have been better off transferring in his team-mate Wayne Rooney.

Mesqueun has been looking at Manchester City’s attack and found that Raheem Sterling could be an unlikely source of attacking points this season.

Meanwhile, supporters of both Manchester clubs are among those in high spirits ahead of Gameweek 2, according to Bolivian Seaman’s latest look at what the fans are saying.

The wealth of choice among Liverpool’s attackers is the subject of Loudini’s first community article, while Andy85wsm looks back at FFScout’s successes and failures in predicting Gameweek 1’s top performers.

The veterans being tracked by Kavali had some notable crystal ball gazing successes, after finishing the Gameweek well above the overall average. As well as revealing details of the 50-strong group of stalwarts being monitored, he also rolled out details of their excellent first Gameweek of the season.

Finally, SW6 announced that battle is well and truly underway between Fantasy Football addicts and casual managers this season as he looks to get one over a smug Steve in accounts.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

With just one Gameweek completed the FPL transfer market is already busy. We considered whether some managers may be too hasty to ditch certain players, while Demba Ba examined whether Philippe Coutinho justifies being one of the week’s most sought after players. The Liverpool midfielder also came under the gaze of Applebonkers earlier this week.

Following his goal against Everton last weekend, Erik Lamela is also attracting interest. Gooner Kebab asks whether the Spurs midfielder is the real deal or a one-match wonder.

Among the busiest in the transfer market are those who had a poor week. These unfortunate managers popped their head above the parapet to take part in our first Rough with the Smooth of the season, where our community details their tales of joy and woe.

Joe Hart has certainly had a rough week, after being left out of the Manchester City starting XI for the foreseeable future. Dusan Citizen dropped by to offer some more detail around the soap opera that is emerging between the sticks at Manchester City.

Makaveli23 added to the chat about misfortune by asking the community for their Fantasy Football horror stories, with Stoke’s Jon Walters coming off the bench, along with his missed penalty and two own goals, a particular tale of fright for him.

Burnley players will also be cursing their poor luck after losing to Swansea at home last weekend. Aggero urges caution in writing off their ability to keep teams at bay at Turf Moor this season.

There were mixed fortunes for the 4.0 priced defenders in the Fantasy Premier League player list, according to Bobby F. While Marc Wilson has moved from Stoke to Bournemouth, where he once again faces stiff competition for a starting role, Swansea’s Stephen Kingsley and Jordi Amat earned their investors valuable clean sheet points and the hope they can continue being named in the starting XI.

The Members Tables

Before ditching some of Gameweek 1’s low scoring players it may pay to see if they feature on my goals imminent table and offer the prospect of points over the coming weeks.

Team performance comes under the microscope of 76509, while premK86 takes a look at the statistics of Gameweek 1’s most attacking players in his latest table.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

The Scout Picks Challenge, which is based around our own Scout Picks, is back with @OFCProdigy dropping by this week to announce details of how to take part in Gameweek 2’s contest. Another popular community contest to launch this week was Fantasy Football Frog‘s Five Prediction.

The draw for the qualifying round of JaffaliciousFFS UEFA Champions League competition has now been made, while in TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing the safety score in Gameweek 1 was 43, which saw 165 players depart and close to 3000 remain.

In Red Lightning’s Top 10k Any Season mini-league the leader after Gameweek 1 is Aidan Pearson, who is 731st overall with a score of 85.

Going into Gameweek 2 Facer has taken an early lead in the FFScout Moderators and Contributors league, closely followed by 2013/14 FPL champion Tom Fenley.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Ticker is bad as you can get anywhere also it's barely functional on this site.

Comparison tool can be found here for free.

        Tables are good fair enough.

Captaining anyone other than Aguero vs Stoke, when you own Aguero, is simply torturing yourself. You then have to not only hope the player you captain does well, but also root against Aguero doing well. Would much prefer, especially at this early stage in the season, to just (C) Kun and be happy rooting for your whole team to do well. If he doesn't get a big score, then you're not losing out on much. If he does, and you chose not to captain him, you're putting yourself at a major disadvantage. Best to get as much out of Kun as you can while his effective ownership is lower as well. Just my 2 cents.

You haven't considered the fact that you can get a big jump on the rest of the pack if it comes off.

It is unlikely to come off is the problem and the reason I am captaining Kun.

      1. Bubz
        • 13 Years
        10 years, 1 month ago

Well obviously that's the upside, and the reason people would do it. But it's not worth doing in my opinion. The reward isnt worth the risk. Plus captaining Kun and him doing really well, at this stage, has its own rewards still. Unlike later in the season where his effective ownership in the higher ranks is over 100%

        1. Nabs Kebabs
          • 14 Years

Yes it is obvious but so is a lot of the things said in the OP.

Very much agree with the rest of this comment. I generally back in Kun when fit but there are some weeks when I think a punt is viable. This week is actually one of those imo (though I am still going Kun). Last week home to Sunderland certainly was not a time to mess around.

I've been reading many posts lamenting the new role for FFS and the new stats being given to FPL, but as a foreigner in a non-PL loving country, I am a bit baffled by everyone's concern.

This is an open forum in which people share opinions, perspectives, stats and other information. Doesn't the fact that FFS has now been recognized by FPL validate the value of said information? Why should it be the sole province of FFS visitors to use it? What do people do in your home countries with this secret stuff? How is information like price change access or the hard work of a few super posters not a somewhat shady way of beating lesser players? As a poker player, I wouldn't expect the legitimate sharks at the table to be complaining about the masses -- they would be loving how many of us fish are at the table.

Plus, most of the users on here get spoon fed their opinions and decisions by FFS shepherds or the very nature of the Upvote system. Just look at the captaincy Hot Topic. How can a difference of opinion possibly thrive when the fankids will be out in force to shout down any deviation from the group norm, and to vote up and celebrate their unity in being part of the masses on here?

I am not happy with the members' area, either, and am a bit concerned that the interface for that page and its lack of revenue producing ads might permanently lag behind the larger site, but I think we are conflating two different issues. One is ineffective communication to paying customers about what the product will look like, while the other is a much less justified characterization of competitive advantages for the vast majority of the game.

Not trying to offend, but as a diehard MLB and NFL fantasy player, I am truly amazed at the tone on here this month about how much FFS will influence FPL. Participants in and contributors to the community should be happy for Mark and proud of anything they have done to have a larger impact.

Instead, I get to sit through post game recaps of 0-0 draws that consist of, "See, this is why soccer will never make it big here in America." Scintillating conversation.

Hello. Good points and thanks for taking the time to post

I personally as a paying member have little issue with the new FFS FPL relationships. Access to the stats on my time schedule not waiting for FFS Twitter posts, not to mention the ability to see the lists in full not just top 3 is important.

However as I don't produce public tables and articles I can't really comment in how they feel about sharing their findings with people who don't pay to support the site

I can't say I know the economics of the site. Just that only members have access to the tables. Which is a paid feature. I am sure the site makes money from ads. I wonder if table makers are a little peeved. However I my be misinterpreting the tone as a poster above says it's a bit tounge and cheek.

I just know that if I was capable of making super useful tables (I lack the imagination 😉 ) and it was being provided free to the non paying masses I'd be a little upset. Then again a little sample of info might convice more to sign up.

As mark said in his last preamble fantasy is no longer a hidden but mainstream

May have slightly streames slightly off point

Yeah, I would imagine the sponsors are probably a much bigger revenue source than members. I think I read someone say they are 3,000-4,000 in the FFS Members league, which wouldn't be that significant if the site is going big time.

I would say sponsors and ads add more revenue than members but if all members let's say approx 3500 all paid the preseason 12.50, thats 43750 gross. Which is nothing to sneeze at.

Mainly it's up to FFS to communicate with its audience (not sure how/if this was done) the changes. Its like real football, if you are unhappy then don't pay. Personally as long as I feel I am getting value for my money I'm happy. But FFS needs to remember/already know that it's membership is what allows this partnership by being top of the best league table etc

As an owner of about 4 players who are set to drop in price, I'll probably take a -8 including selling Gray for Benteke.

yup, could well be a cricket score and Stoke are a diffferent proposition entirely compared to Steaua Bucharest

I think Kane is a good choice this GW

My thoughts exactly although I had Aguero as (c) last week I wasn't impressed with City at all think thier in for a much tougher test v Stoke away I'm gonna go with Kane.

This logic is very odd to me. Last I checked neither is a DEF...

In fact, CPL is MORE likely to drop deep and (attempt to) defend thus stifling Kane.
