Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Southampton Vs Aston Villa

Although our gaze is naturally drawn towards the double Gameweek teams, there’s still plenty of Fantasy intrigue amongst the remaining head-to-heads. The first match-up of the weekend sees Southampton play host to Villa, with the Saints looking for a first win in five, while the Villains’ will be hoping to seal their survival with a third straight victory.

Having lost four road matches in the last six Gameweeks, Southampton will be relishing their return to St Mary’s. In spite of their recent troubles on their travels, Ronald Koeman’s side have remained steadfast in front of their own fans and have racked up three clean sheets in the last four home outings. Further up the field, Graziano Pelle netted three goals across Southampton’s previous two at St Mary’s ties and will be determined to further atone for a 14-match barren spell in mid-season.

Despite tallying the bulk of their recent points at home, Tim Sherwood’s Villa outfit have proved that they’re a capable of testing opponents on the road, pushing Manchester City all the way at the Etihad and recording a 1-0 win over Spurs at White Hart Lane. Christian Benteke (10 goals in nine) remains the West Midlanders’ principal threat, while Tom Cleverley (three goals in three consecutive starts) has enjoyed the freedom to roam under Sherwood’s stewardship.

With the FA Cup final in mind, the visitors will surely be going all out for a win today. If Villa can seal their survival, Sherwood will then be afforded the option of rotating his main men for next week’s home encounter against Burnley.

Good start with Mane, shame he didn't get more.

Only Sergio Aguero has scored more goals at home than Graziano Pelle this season.

To be fair, Aguero plays every home game at the Eithad and Pelle doesn't. You can't ignore that with your "stats".

He should have had that other goal too.

Pelle very underestimated player. Even though he dropped off scoring has been very very good with his hold up play, and he currently sits number 4th overall striker in FPL.

Wonder how much he will be next season or if Saints will suffer the Europa League burn out

Europa League and another striker if they sign one could damage his prospects. Not as brilliant as the start of the season suggested, but not nearly as poor as people have made out since then, either.

rival has taken a -8 hit to draft in two sunderland players think it may backfire on him hugely

Good for attacking potential if his position is changed. Wouldn't touch a Sherwood defender otherwise.

Long with 76 BPS right now, but only second in the game (Mane 85). How many of the 359 PL games this season will that been enough for 3 bonus points?

Not all, but almost. Aguero got 111 last round as an example.

Kuhn got 111 last week plus close to that with his 4 goals early on, Costa got over 80 with a hattie early on and Tadic too with his part in the 8-0 - aside from that?

And Bolasie with his hattrick in GW 32. Cant find any other.

        Aguero x2
        Costa
        Tadic
        Bolasie

I think a few teams will be looking at him. He is well paid and captain so will be hard to push a sale.
