Captain Poll – Final

No more stick or twist, then. With only Sunday’s final between Spain and Italy to come now, Fantasy managers have just one shot to get their armband options right. Luckily, we’ll have the team sheets beforehand, affording us the chance to tinker and make last-minute alterations to our lineups before the 7.30pm deadline.

Spain’s progress to the final has been based on the ability to nullify their opponents’ attacking threat. The defending champions roll up to Sunday’s final on the back of four successive clean sheets – the only team to find the net against Vicente Del Bosque’s side has been, ironically, Italy. Jordi Alba is the top scoring player in the McDonald’s game and, with scores of (7, 10, 7) in his last three, is perhaps the strongest option for those looking to captain a Spanish defender.

In midfield, Xabi Alonso’s spot-kick duties may play a part and, while Xavi and Andres Iniesta have produced a single assist between them all tournament, their class is always capable of coming to the fore. Up front, David Silva has been Spain’s most reliable Fantasy asset in terms of both returns and game time. One of Cesc Fabregas, Fernando Torres or Alvaro Negredo will get the nod for the central role – Fabregas was handed a start in the position against the Azzurri in the Group C opener and could well be favourite.

Italy will be looking for Mario Balotelli to prove the difference once again, with the Man City forward’s brace decisive in the 2-1 win over Germany. Andrea Pirlo has, arguably, been the tournament’s stand out performer and will surely have a say in the outcome, while Antonio Cassano’s contribution to the cause was evident tonight. Elsewhere, in the Azzurri midfield, Claudio Marchisio and Riccardo Montolivo could both be decent differentials as Cesare Prandelli’s side look to upset the odds once again.

Hi guys, i'm in a 3 person mini-league in 2nd place 5 pts from the 1st with a wildcard to play. 3rd place is 15pts from me, no wc and with a bad team so i don't think i have to worry to much with him.
It's a winner-take-all so i'm wondering what would my best tactic be here. My team atm looks like this:

      Some ideas: Maybe take the attacking threat of Balzaretti over Barzagli, and similarly take Ramos/Pique over Arbeloa. Be prepared that two of Cesc, Xavi, Iniesta, Silva will not start. Which players do you predict your rival to get?

I feel like it's a roshambo type of problem. I don't know what my opponent will do but it's like you can invest on A Italy, B Spain or C a mix of the best of them. Just don't know what would crush what and if any would crush more.
Am i making sense here?

Posting merely to gloat about GW scores, or how a particular (c) punt went through - maybe throwing in a little "LOL @ insetrplayername-owners" - is the regular everyday eye-paining stuff here (hell, might do pts points ones in a while myself), but the guy who yesterday claimed first to "tell everyone" about the Wimbledon upset, DURING the semi final, took it to a whole new level I feel.

      In that case - if you believe this is his final team - you might also try to negate 1 or 2 of his offensive differentials, however this can backfire.

      If the git would be for busquets, don't bother. If it would be for anyone else, you might as well go for it. They are likely to get 2 pts as a minimum anyway

        hmm......but the problem being he'll wait for the line ups as well......
        as for the combination I see beating him......
        is maybe
        a) taking 2 hits and playing 1 gk 5 defs and 2 mids (3 ita and 3 spa defs)
        
        b) taking 2 hits loading up the defence of 1 side and take punt on 1 mid or fwd of the other (fab/diamanti or ballo/torres) something like that.....
        
        still he'll have me beaten by 3 players which is a minimum 6 pts plus i'll take a 6 pts hit.....
        
        So basically gotta beat him by 12 pts or more so captain's gonna be crucial..... 🙂

        I can see you gambling on no clean sheets, and hitting a captaincy. He will probably cancel out your Iniesta if he is smart. Then you have to gamble on 3 differential midfielders/strikers, and captaining the one you think will get more points.
        
        Unless there is a money prize for 2nd, you should go for 1st imo.

  Look at 2nd and third place, try and predict whether they're more weighted towards Italy or Spain and do the opposite, taking hits to load up your mid and defence. Hope to get the captain pick right. Take up religion and pray to chosen deity 🙂

  Alreet. I would love it, LOVE it if we signed him. But maybe he is a bit above our level after his performances in the euros? All reports say that he would choose to sign for us due to his friendship with cabeye, but if somebody like inter or chelsea offer more to Lille and him, I doubt he would come to us!!
  
  If we do sign him, we are going to have 2 VERY attacking fullbacks. I'm thinking that to counter this, we might look to bring in another defensive mid to play alongside tiote (anita?). This would allow Cabeye to play ACM, and would make him a major fpl prospect. What do you reckon?

    I'm hoping the Cabaye factor will sway him - we're allegedly his preferred choice for that reason so hopefully we can set the wheels in motion before anyone else gets their act together. I agree we can't compete in terms of cash or status with the big boys but whoever forms our negotiation team these days seem to do a pretty good job so I'm still giving us a decent chance 🙂
    
    Re: Cabaye - I suppose it depends on formation, Pardew wasn't afraid to change things round a little (Gutierrez DFM, etc.) so I wouldn't like to second guess what might happen but I agree if Cabaye is pushed further forward he'd be a big hitter in fpl. Still fancy him as more of a Pirlo type though personally.

Except the Spanish striker situation, everyone else seems to be nailed-on. Should I go ahead and make my transfers? I have 6 players for the final (not counting negredo). Should I make the 4 transfers now, and save the 3 pt hit for when the lineups are out.

    A pretty solid team but i wont do the transfersnow because although they all may seem nailed on you never know what can happen and since their is no price changes you have nothing to lose.
    The only player i can't see bringing you point is marchisio i would get a rb magnet or a set piece taker . Hope it helps

  At this point I don't really know how anyone can advise anything. You either think Spain will win or you think Italy will win, you then either think there will be a clean sheet or 2 or you think there will be none. You then amend your team accordingly.

    I am loading on Spain, although I hope Italy wins. But I can't see Spain making the mistakes Germany made. They gave a little too much space to Balotelli and Spain has defended brilliantly throughout the tournament.

    9 is a big risk if you are chasing. So that means you will be 19 points behind your leader unless he decides to take hits as well. But we don't know who will score points so this can be justified. I am looking at a similar team with a 3 point hit. Good luck.

my fantastic fantasy ride has finisshed yesterday

Gutted for Brazil and specialy for Bug cup -Parm beat me even if we eere tight at everything(due a better ranking)

so good luck to him in final

i already made my transfers yesterday and i got 10 spain players without any hit 😀

  There is no best squad I think. It just depends on which team you are backing. Most of the people on here have 8/9 Spanish and 2/3 Italians if that helps.

    The Italians are well known, but i think it is better to split between two squads and select best players and these who more likely to earn some points.

      Yeah maybe if you have unlimited transfers. Just wait for the lineups before confirming your squad. Bonucci should be nailed on and Chiellini too if he stays fit. Can't say anything aboout the fullbacks. Maggio is likely to come in but we can never be sure.

        Spains forward line will be sure after the start-up line till then just Silva is nailed imo, aslo Fabregas is a big question in or not.
        
        What about the subs... is it worth to have a valuable subs for the final... it is important 🙂

        If you're waiting for the lineups, then subs are pretty pointless really, because you will have 11 starters and the subs can't be used. Plus you'll be gutted if you end up having a high scorer on the bench 😉

  It is possible but they are playing better in the current 4-1-3-2 formation. I think they should stick to their formation and attack Spain.
