Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Sunday

Sunday’s events continue with both Merseyside teams in action as Everton host Leicester City at Goodison and Liverpool make the testing trip to the south coast to take on Southampton.

It’s four home matches without a win for Everton as they host Nigel Pearson’s Foxes – a team that have lost four on the bounce going into today’s meeting. Leighton Baines, who’d notched assists in two of his last five appearances before succumbing to injury, is back in contention after being passed fit by Roberto Martinez on Friday afternoon. Meanwhile, Romelu Lukaku has registered a solitary goal in the past 11 Gameweeks, but heads into this fixture with momentum, having recorded his first hat-trick for the Toffees in their midweek Europa tie. Likewise, the Belgian’s opposite number, Andrej Kramaric, arrives in fine fettle having netted in the Leicester’s past two matches in all competitions.

Gameweek 26 concludes with a clash between Champions League hopefuls Southampton and Liverpool at St Mary’s Stadium, as Brendan Rodgers’ unit attempt to extend their unbeaten run to 10 league matches. Daniel Sturridge has delivered a goal and two assists in three appearances since recovering from injury, whilst fit-again Raheem Sterling has notched two goals and assists in his previous six league matches. The Reds face a tough task in breaching a Saints backline that has served up a clean sheet in eight of their 13 St Mary’s matches, though, whilst Ronald Koeman will be desperate for Graziano Pelle to get amongst the goals to end an eight-match barren run.

No penalty on Sterling. The second angle shows Fonte won the ball. Allen incident was a penalty for Southampton though

Winning the ball isn't enough. His left leg followed through and was reckless.
I think it should be two penalties for Southampton, one for Liverpool.

He shouldn't have made the challenge considering the conditions. The follow through was nasty.

No, it means he should be less reckless. It's like expecting a driver on the road during a snowstorm to not go at the speed limit.

Cool, I guess it would also be alright if he broke his leg because he 'won' the ball, he missed it with his leading leg and then just bundled into everything in front of him, which while including the ball doesn't win it nor was it a fair challenge.

It wasn't a dangerous tackle and he had no choice but to slide because of the surface. He played the ball. Stop being so biased.

How am I being biased, Sterling managed to stay on his feet pretty well, considering where he came in from it was a reckless tackle.

Whether a foul should be given is opinion, right down to the referee, and he made a mistake IMO.

He's made many mistakes. That wasn't one.

The defender played the ball cleanly before he touched the attacker. He got lucky that his first leg didn't touch Sterling, yes. After that, it was perfectly legal. Learn the rules.

Legal is the technicality I'm trying to argue against, it was a bogey tackle that didn't end in a foul by the sole virtue he happened to touch the ball first, by accident considering he missed initially, that's why it should be a foul, and again just my opinion.

Wrong..his right leg was in front to stop the potential cross, his left leg was lucky to catch the ball but it wasn't dangerous nor reckless.
