Spot the Differential

Spot the Differential – Gameweek 4

Bournemouth and Villa’s wide men are on our radar in this week’s scour for overlooked Fantasy options, whilst Tottenham’s out-of-position defender also plays a part in the Gameweek 4 thinking.

Max Gradel

Having notched 17 times in 31 outings for Ligue 1 outfit Saint Etienne last season, Max Gradel returns to former club Bournemouth in fine scoring form. The 6.0-priced midfielder – who sits at a 0.5% ownership – was a peripheral figure in the Fantasy Premier League until he served up a brace of assists during the Cherries’ 4-3 victory over West Ham last weekend.

Since being handed his first start in Gameweek 2, Gradel places second for shots (three) behind Matt Ritchie (seven) among the south coast club’s midfield contingent, though he’s tallied the most penalty-box touches (six) and key passes (five) across that stretch. Although the latter’s Fantasy allure is intensified by his share of free-kicks, Gradel posted a far superior shot conversion rate (16.6%) than Ritchie (9.9%) last term, which suggests he’s more of a clinical finisher.

Bournemouth will be buoyant in the wake of their maiden top-flight victory, so recruiting from their attacking corps looks like an astute strategy in the coming weeks. Eddie Howe’s troops embark on an excellent quintet of fixtures (LEI, nor, SUN, sto, WAT), ensuring that this differential pick is afforded ample time to flourish.

Jack Grealish

Having recovered from a hamstring injury picked up during Aston Villa’s pre-season tour, Jack Grealish was handed a start on the left of a front three against Crystal Palace on his return to action. The 19-year-old Academy product then went on to play the full 121 minutes of the Villains’ midweek League Cup win over Notts County, getting him one step closer to peak fitness.

Although Scott Sinclair’s hat-trick hogged the headlines, Grealish also turned in a fine performance against the League Two opposition, serving as Villa’s most creative outlet and bagging two assists in the process. In light of the fact that Tim Sherwood’s men rank second-bottom for chances created (17) over the opening trio of matches, the former Spurs head coach will be desperate to funnel their play through the winger, augmenting his appeal as a Fantasy asset.

Priced at 5.4, Grealish occupies a bracket that’s devoid of any sure-fire bets (Riyad Mahrez has shot up to the 6.0-mark), so there’s value to be had in unearthing a hidden gem. A home tie against Sunderland – who’ve conceded more goals (eight) than any side this term – should certainly afford Grealish plenty of possession to showcase his burgeoning talents.

Edit: Grealish has emerged as a late doubt for Villa’s meeting with Sunderland with reports stating that he has sprained an ankle in training.

Eric Dier

Eric Dier has been deployed in the double pivot alongside Nabil Bentaleb and – more recently – Ryan Mason this term, furnishing Fantasy managers with an out-of-position prospect. Although the former Sporting Lisbon centre-back is yet to launch a marauding run of the ilk that saw him net a late winner in the opening Gameweek of last term, he’s already found the net in his previous home appearance against Stoke and ranks joint-second among defenders for headed attempts (two).

Spurs are yet to register a clean sheet this campaign, but there were signs of improvement during their visit to Leicester. Mauricio Pochettino’s men limited the high-flying Foxes to just seven shots inside the box, one big chance and two attempts on target, implying that Tottenham forced Leicester into unfavourable shooting positions.

The Lilywhites conceded just one goal against Everton in the previous campaign, winning the home leg 2-1 and triumphing 1-0 at Goodison Park in the final Gameweek. Notwithstanding their dominant performance away to Southampton, the Toffees have mustered just 10 attempts on target this term, offering hope for Dier’s shut-out prospects as the hosts look to clinch their first win of the season.

So I have £1m ITB! Here is my thinking, I have two 4m defenders and need to upgrade one to either 4.5 or 5! Myhill is my GK, if Marshall is brought in this weekend I will use .5 to upgrade to him and the other .5 on a defender. If Marshall isn't brought in, I will use the £1m to bring in a £5m defender. Sound good?

They have played two halves with 10 men and apparently have been training on defence for the whole week. At least this is what I'm telling myself.

Can't seem to use the extra money somewhere beneficial, Only transfer I would want is Pedro to Hazard but that would mean having Targett or Saylor which I prefer not to.

    Cech (Gomes)
    Azpi, Kompany, Clyne (Gomez, Huth)
    Ozil, Yaya, Mahrez, Albrighton (Chadli)
    Aguero, Benteke, Wilson

looking at Huth and Gomes as weak links (however I like Watfords defense and his fixtures mesh well with Cech)

my question, are there any players ive missed or could consider

Don't fancy Cech as an expensive keeper. Prefer Butland and another 4.5. Go Kolarov over Kompany to save money
Drop Apzi till their form picks up. Play Gomez today. Huth to Clark, Francis or Muniesa
Not sure about Yaya see article on him. Don't double on Lei mids. Prefer Sanchez to Ozil

    Hi FFS!

First of all sorry for my english.

Not sure if this was discussed somewhere sometime, but this is something which bothers me - price rises/drops and Wild Cards.

I believe that mojority of fantasy players just hit the WC button after the GW which gives them a week (or two in case od Int break) to tinker with their teams. Some common knowledge is that when on WC, bringing or droping players from your team do not influence overall tresholds needed for player price changes. Therefore your moves when on WC do not influence player prices. But in case you are on a WC you WANT your moves to influence player price changes (one tranfer is spit in the sea, I know, but still). So simply you want your players which you bring in to rise and players you drop to go down to make it harder for your opponents.

Due to all this I strongly believe that its better to do your transfers for the whole week like on WC, but actually hit the WC button just before the deadline to erase all the hits you have taken through the week. If this will be followed by enough players I strongly believe that it will possitively influence the price rises(drops) during the GWs where many players WC.

So basically hit the WC button just before the deadline and take hits through the week.

So who does everyone think is the most BORING premiership team to watch this season?

So far it's Man United for me, considering how exciting they were to watch under Fergie.

I dont think they were that exciting to watch on late Fergie era but.

They were good to watch vs chelsea last week. They should have atleast pulled a draw back.

This Utd team remind me a lot of the Fergie era, they'll spend most of the season looking a bit scrappy and winning lots of one nils, but finish high.

Should do, he's up against it because every time Moreno comes on he puts in a good performance. But they haven't let a goal in yet, so Rodgers has no reason to drop any of the current 4

    Schmeichel (McCarthy)

    Kolarov, Gomez, Cedric (Targett, Muniesa)

    Yaya, Sanchez, Pedro, Mahrez (Redmond)

    Aguero, Wilson, Gomis

I was currently thinking the above was pretty nice but then saw could afford
to take out Pedro and Redmond for Hazard and Westwood. Should I make that
change? I like having the spare cash and think Pedro good for goals but having
Aguero, Hazard and Sanchez in the same team looks very tempting...

Poor keepers. Don't double on SOT defence.

SOT defence my only cleansheets of season so far... Targett was intended as a cheap playing defender and he is not in my first 11 so not overly worried. What would you suggest re keepers? Butland seems to be the template choice but then would be doubling up at the back with Muniesa - still may put him in over schmeichel as Stoke has got reasonable fixtures ahead. I know McCarthy may not be playing when Speroni back but currently for 4.0m would be him or Schwarzer but would only do Scwharzer if had Schmeichel so guaranteed starter (although Sch and Sch would not help when did bench boost).

Have been offline for a week. I know this team needs fixing, but are this team ok? Not any injuries I've failed to pick up? 0 FTs left.

    Cedric - Azpi - Huth
    Hazard - Yaya - Payet - Ayew
    Benteke - Sakho - Aguero (C)

Celtic are planning a double swoop for Manchester United defender Tyler Blackett and Inverness' Ryan Christie, according to the Daily Mail.

No Way United will let Tyler Blackett leave...maybe a loan season

he's going on loan for a year if you read the actual article itself.
