Darwin injury latest ahead of FPL Double Gameweek 25

Jurgen Klopp provided an update on Darwin Nunez (£8.7m) in Monday’s pre-match press conference, ahead of Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League clash with Real Madrid.

The Uruguayan striker was substituted after 58 minutes of the Reds’ 2-0 win at Newcastle United on Saturday, having been troubled by a shoulder injury.

The issue raised fears that he might miss Double Gameweek 25 but Klopp didn’t seem overly concerned in his presser on Monday, even saying Darwin “had a chance” of facing Real Madrid the following day.

“There’s a chance. From all the possible scenarios apart from being absolutely nothing – that’s not the case – we have to see how he can deal with the pain and when we know that, we can make a decision.” – Jurgen Klopp on Darwin Nunez’s chances of featuring against Real Madrid on Tuesday

The striker has since been pictured in training.

Darwin is the second-most-bought FPL forward of Gameweek 25 at the time of writing, with not far off 80,000 transfers in.

LIVERPOOL’S DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 25

Darwin, Mohamed Salah (£12.6m) and Cody Gakpo (£7.7m) have been used as Liverpool’s front three over the past few weeks but the return to fitness of Diogo Jota (£8.8m) and Roberto Firmino (£8.0m), not to mention a busy schedule, has added a bit of rotation risk as we approach Double Gameweek 25.

Jota and Firmino have been gradually reintroduced into the first-team fold after their lay-offs, handed cameos in last Monday’s Merseyside derby before getting half an hour each at St James’ Park.

They may have a further opportunity to boost their match-fitness levels at Anfield in midweek.

The good news on the FPL front is that the imminent schedule is not as bad as it could have been, with the Tuesday-Saturday-Wednesday-Sunday turnaround allowing for three rest days in between games.

  • Tuesday 21 FebruaryChampions League, round of 16 – Real Madrid (h)
  • Saturday 25 FebruaryGameweek 25 – Crystal Palace (a)
  • Wednesday 1 MarchGameweek 25 – Wolverhampton Wanderers (h)
  • Sunday 5 MarchGameweek 26 – Manchester United (h)

Klopp has previously (and repeatedly) complained about Wednesday-Saturday lunchtime fixture pairings before, so at least we don’t have any of those on either side of Double Gameweek 25. As a result, fatigue and the “red zone” might not be the consideration they could have been.

But it’s a partial numbers game regarding Darwin’s potential availability and that of Jota and Firmino, with extra bodies in attack adding to the possibility, however slim or significant, of rotation.

We haven’t touched on other players who can play in attack, as Harvey Elliott (£4.9m) has recently.

All eyes will be on Tuesday’s European action, then, to see if Darwin recovers and if Jota and Firmino are deemed any closer to being ready to start a competitive game.

Until then, the Uruguay international remains in ‘don’t buy, don’t sell’ limbo.

Guys when do the price changes usually happen? Gakpo is already at the stage where his price will increase.

      1:30am daily UK time.

Note that FPL Stats are usually a bit out when it comes to predicted rises/fallers for players from teams that double/blank in a DGW/BGW, as (apparently) the thresholds are adjusted accordingly.

As few goals Darwin has managed to score, think he'll be replaced as soon as possible with the more proven goal scorers Jota and Firmino.

Worth a -4 to get in another Liverpool player or other DGW players?

3 points behind the ML leader, who'll probably play FH this week. Don't think the team above has a chance to match his FH points, but still don't feel this is the week to FH.

No, as it would need to be Arsenal.... That's the problem!

Do you think we'll see mass postponements of games if the planned rail strikes go ahead next month?

Brighton's second DGW fixture falls on the first planned strike (16th March).

The other dates are 18th March (GW28) and 30th March and 1st April (GW29).

Liverpool assets have rotation written all over them ... Jota looked really sharp and up for it and must be getting more game time soon.

Who will start two games in the double I wonder ?

    1. Tonyawesome69
      • 5 Years

Yup agreed with attacking options except Salah and Gomez/Matip.

4 players vying for 2 spots in the front 3.

Mins in last 2 games against Everton and Newcastle:

      Firmino - 10 and 31
      Jota - 20 and 31
      Darwin - 70 and 59
      Gakpo - 80 and 59

Firmino and Jota eased in with mins off the bench in the last 2 games and likely pushing for a start now

Yip, no idea who starts at center back now except maybe VvD

Will Robbo start 2 games ?

Can't see any attacker getting 2 starts except Salah

It's a tricky choice and could mean a -4 is not worth it getting a Liverpool players in.

Mo the safest bet by a mile but i couldn't get to him so i've ended up with Trent and Gakpo. They're one-week punts for me, so even 120 minutes for Gakpo would be better than the SGW options.

    Ederson,
    Gabriel, Bueno, Patterson
    KDB, Martinelli, Ødegaard, Andreas
    Haaland, Kane, Mitro

    Ward, Shaw, Trippier, Rashford

2ft and 0.3 Itb. Best transfers to make?

KDB and Shaw to Salah and Tarkowski maybe?

    I really wanna keep Rashford.
So think I'm doing Shaw+Mitoma to Pool defender+Gakpo.

I can do Shaw+Rashford to Tarkowski+Salah, but than I want Rashford immediately back next GW against Pool.

    Early thoughts on these moves?

    A. KDB+Bruno+White >> Salah+Odegaard+TAA (-4)

    B. KDB+Bruno+Shaw >> Salah+Gakpo+TAA (-4) (and bench Andreas)

    C. KDB+Bruno >> Salah+Gakpo

    Kepa
    Tarko, Moreno, White
    KDB, Bruno**, Saka, Andreas
    Haaland, Mitro, Nketiah
    (Ward, Tripps**, Shaw**, Rash**)

Or D. KDB+Bruno+Mitro >> Salah+Gakpo+Darwin (-4)! Or only only if Mitro was out

I think it’s the best move. Just need Mitro to be fit

My team for GW 25 , 8-9 active players

    Ward ( Pope blank )
White - Bueno ( Shaw blank - Trippier blank - Patterson injured )
    Odegard - Saka - Andreas ( Rashford blank - Bruno blank )
    Haaland - Kane - Mitro ( injured ? )

    Patterson - > TAA
    Mitro - > forward max 5.8 ( Maupay ? Brennan Johnson ? someone else ) ?

Is it madness to leave on bench Shaw - Trip - Rashford - Bruno and play in 10 ?
I dont want drop any of them

Sounds fine to me to keep Shaw & play 10. Moves look good. If Mitro is out, BJ over Maupay for sure

Do you think we’ll have DGW29 confirmed before 26 deadline? If so, would a WC in 26 > BB in 27 work effective?

I don’t normally post this but given I’m now likely facing a big red arrow might as well.

Have climbed from 1.6+Mil in GW18 to 213,688 OR. From bottom to top of my main mini league.

Probably best run of steady rank increase I have had. Largely down to going three UTD from the restart, and captaining the right guys more often than not.

This GW upcoming only have 8 starters and 1 FT so feel a red is inevitable but will enjoy this moment while it lasts.

Have had a lot of decent advice on here during these weeks. Cheers guys.

Similar rise to similar territory. Had my doubts due to the extended player base (10m) and more accessible info than ever

      Here's to sustained rises, WMs!

    2 FTs

    Shaw/James to TAA

    Bruno to Gakpo

Almiron lingers like a stale guff 😆

Shaw is tricky. Only want him for that SOU game now, but is a FH in 28 viable? Could keep him then and rid myself of Reece

what about selling Trippier over Shaw?

I'm probably doing it. Got City away next and then there's a good chance I'm on a wildcard after that if I really want him back.

Okay I'm set on TAA and Tark in but obviously Bruno has to go to raise the cash to do so.

So for a hit would u go Gakpo for the dgw or Maddison for the long term. ? Maddison looked good yesterday and once pool is out of the way fixtures are good.

Already have 5 dgwers and 10 players in total.

Would be tempted for the punt on gakpo, can always move to madders after.

Yeah that was the plan if not Maddison straight. Can't afford Salah unless I sell Kane for him and I don't fancy that tbh.

I've gone Gakpo, to then become Mitoma for 27. No room for Maddo yet sadly.

Iv had mitoma for wks now so Maddison in nxt wk fits perfectly for my team . And mayb just a -4 punt on Gakpo for the double is warranted

    Kepa

    Odegaard (C), Mahrez, Andreas
    Haaland, Kane, Nkeitah

    Ward, Bruno, Rashford, Tripper, Shaw

    A) Bruno + Kane > Salah + Darwin
    B) White + Bruno + Mahrez + Kane > Tark + Salah + Saka (C) + Darwin (-8)
    C) Bruno + Mahrez + Kane + Nkeitah > Salah + Saka + Darwin + Watkins (-8)
    D) Bruno + Mahrez + Nkeitah > Saka + Gakpo + Darwin (-4)
