This is my current decision, pick between one of these (admittedly similar). Too many options.

    Son/Eze/Jota/Nkunku/Andreas
    Isak/Haaland/Watkins

    Salah/MGW/Andreas/Palmer/Winks
    Haaland/Isak/DCL

    Son/Palmer/Jota/Andreas/Bailey
    Haaland/Isak/DCL(or Wood)

    Salah/Son/Nkunku/Adreas/Jota
    Haaland/Isak/Jebbison

(above with Salah --> Saka +TAA in def)

    Nkunku/Andreas/Jota/Eze/Saka
    Haaland/Isak/Solanke (+TAA in def)

Needless to say I'm largely going bare-bones at the back.

    Which midfield to start with:

    A) Son - Jota - Diaz - Eze - MGW

    B) Son - Jota - Saka - Kamada - CHO

    Fwd line is:
    Muniz - Haaland - Isak

Don’t think MGW is worth £1m more than CHO, so if you want Forest I’d say A but with CHO and use the £1m elsewhere

Anyone else suddenly gone from all 4.5 defenders to a 5+ heavy defensive line. I've found myself with
Munoz Porro Gvardiol as my main back 3(alongside Hall and Mylolenko)

Am I right in thinking porro will continue being on all set pieces with Maddison looking like second string..

And Munoz can be played week in week out considering his good attacking g threat vs anderson

Got the same back 3 but with 2 x 4.0m. The 1m can be used somewhere else in your squad I'm sure and the idea of going porro, munoz and gvardiol is that they are "fixture proof" due to their attacking threat

Madison will probably start but his spot is under threat because he’s been poor, I expect porro to still be on corners and some free kicks + have good open play goal threat

Been light on Defence from the start. Gvardiol has left after playing CB against United, diminishing his threat.
Didn’t have money left for Porro, so it’s a rotating 4.5 back. Hoping Quansah has got my back.

Thought Saliba was the best ARS def to go except from White. But now see many drafts with Gabriel instead. Isn't he less nailed than Saliba?

Can't speak for this season, but last year it was just a bit more of a gambling thing - slightly higher chance of being rested but more likely to get an attacking return when playing.

On the eye test I'm spending the extra 0.5 on White every day though.

I don't really think so. The benching last year was with the Saudi transfer rumours, White played CB that period. For now I think both Calafiori and Timber are decent second choice players for the CB position, with the former a potential starter on LB. Can't see Arteta changing the successful duo a lot, so both equal for me. Maybe Gabriel even has a slightly better offensive threat?

Evens Stevens I’d say. Last season Gabriel was the slightly more popular pick with more upside to attacking returns.
Saliba looks more nailed for minutes.

I went to Anfield yesterday and have swapped Salah out for Jota as a result. New draft below. What do you think?

    Raya
    Gvardiol Porro Quansah
    Jota Saka Garnacho Bobb
    Haaland Isak Solanke

    Vald Nkunku Barco Harwood-Bellis

But he’ll play 90 mins and get penalties and consistent returns. Of the premiums only Palmer returned more points per game last season. If he starts poorly you can reach any midfielder in the game.

I reckon in the first 6 games, Salah probably gets 50% more game time than Jota.

He looked good in spells. He did t get forward much in open play. Dangerous as ever from set piece delivery. I’ve gone for Quansah as I don’t think Trent looks like a £7m defender.

Will Garnacho start? Assume he will but minutes are a bit of an issue.

Like the rest though. I'd probably go Bednarek for Harwood-Bellis. Both nailed but Bednarek lower EO so less likely to price drop.

Any thoughts on this team please?

    Henderson 4.0
    TAA Porro Mee Andersen 4.0

    1. Bartowski
      • 15 Years

Son may well lose pens to Solanke so wouldn't be as essential imo. ESR appears to be playing higher up than Andreas. Gone off Palace with all of their players, inc. Andersen, being linked with moves away.

      1. SKENG
        • 9 Years
        1 year, 3 months ago

Still considering Son vs Palmer... it's essentially

        B) Palmer & Rogers

        1. Bartowski
          • 15 Years

Chelsea's approach to buying players being akin to dumping all their toys on the floor puts me off them for time being personally. I suppose you could start with Son and then bring in Foden if warranted.

    2. EgyptianKing
      • 7 Years

Very strong imo! I personally prefer ESR to Andreas.

Suggestion: Son to Bruno and upgrade 4.5 def to Gabriel / Saliba

    3. Coys96
      • 8 Years

Like the Mee pick - is he 4.5?

Andersen obviously could go to Fulham so bare that in mind. Gordon is a also a bit of doubt for GW1... only played 45 mins in pre-season.

Would definitely go ESR, expect him to score around 10 this season whereas I'd be surprised if Andreas gets more than 5, even with pens.

Really like it, obviously Haaland in GW2 a big miss but you'll have to hope Salah or whoever you captain can come close to him.

      1. SKENG
        • 9 Years
        1 year, 3 months ago

Yes Mee is 4.5. I'm planning to rotate him & Andersen for the first 5-6 GWs. Don't think there's a better 4.5 rotation than Brentford - Palace?

Be interesting if any City fans can tell us if there's any method to Pep's selections for European games. Does he prefer stalwarts in those games etc.

      1. wembleytor
        • 2 Years

In CL, other than obviously Haaland, the most nailed player is Foden, who suits the rhythms of European games. Grealish usually starts when fit, especially away from home, as he gives it away less than Doku / Savinho. Bernardo plays against the big boys and gets rotated against the lesser lights. Fringe players like Lewis and Nunes often get put in against weaker opposition.

Whether PL or CL, the most likely time for KDB to get benched is when the opposition play 3 at the back.

Defence is the usual roulette. In group games Walker often gets changed out at RB for someone who can play the midfield hybrid role.

As for Bobb, I'm expecting a GW1 start followed by a steady decline in minutes as the others get up to speed. CL group games may see higher minutes than PL after that. The England players are very much being eased in and only reported back today. As did Rodri, but he's harder to rotate.

Could be. That Sam Lee quote doing the rounds (about moving Foden & Silva inside with Bobb & Savio competing for RW) does suggest there's scope for him to claim that spot this season, especially since Savio played exclusively LW last season & I doubt Grealish/Doku will nail that role down. I'm in no doubt that he has the talent to produce a Palmer-esque season (minus the pens obv)

      Thanks all.

I think a 5M city starter for a few weeks, with a starter on my bench for cover is a great opportunity.

Agree - risky, but hey, I didn't pick Palmer either - who by the way only came to attention because he scored 4 penalties.

Palmer had to leave City before he became last season's Palmer.
Are you expecting Bobb to leave?

    Hello!

    Which combo?

    1) Gabriel Salah Bruno (+1m itb)

    2) Gabriel Eze Haaland

    3) Quansah Bruno Haaland

    Cheers!

2 but I'd go Saliba, more nailed.

Or 3 but with Eze instead of Bruno (no way he's worth 1.5m more)

Best option here for the last 5.5m slot?

    A) ESR (5.5)
    B) Rodger (5.0)
    C) Winks (4.5)

    A) gives a decent B1 in attack each week. B/C means I can upgrade one of the 2 4.0m defenders and/or save a bit of cash for future transfers.

    Henderson
    TAA, Gabriel, Porro
    Salah, Saka, Eze, Jota
    Isak, Havertz, Wood

    Fabs, xxx, Barca, THB

I'd like to have at least a 4.5M sub defender especially with the power of saving FTs this season, don't think you'll want to start them over the 3 though.

      8th attacker, Winks.

The money can go into upgrading Wood > Solanke.

So I believe I am happy with this final draft based on my pre season observation and willingness to use a cheap defence for the start of the season. Have covered Liverpool, City, Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea, United, Newcastle and Villa attack. Based my team around Salah, Halland, Saka, Isak and remaining team is value picks wherever possible. I am not sure Trent worth 7 mil before seeing him more in this new setup. City gonna rotate heavy once again, Gvardiol is also not safe. Arsenal has mixed opening matches. So has Porro. So I am trying to be a attack heavy team for first few GW. Planning of wild card after the first international break when we have more information.

Morgan and Amad is a better duo than other 5.5 and 4.5 mid IMO.

    Henderson
    Hall Barco Quansah
    Salah Saka Nkunku Amad
    Halland Isak Solanke

    Vlad Rogers Robinson Harwood

Can downgrade Salah if he doesn't fire will use those funds to revamp the defence in wildcard. Rest are long term premium picks for me. Will captain Halland mostly.

    G’day lads,

I’m new around here. Please RMT.

    Henderson, Matthews,
    Quansah, Mykolenko, Hall (Barco, Robinson)
    Salah, Bruno, Nkunku, CHO (Rogers)
    Haaland, Isak, Havertz

Will probably change Haaland for Watkins from GW3, possibly with reinforcements in the back or Palmer for Nkunku. With Johnstone rumoured to be wanting out, I’ve gone with the Palace goalies.

Currently flirting with this, I always like to start if I can with the most expensive in each position so I can move to literally anyone in the game if needed:

    Sanchez - Benda
    Trent - Quansah - Konsa - Barco - H-B
Salah - Son - Nkunku - Smith Rowe - Rogers
    Haaland - Isak - Jebbison

If you’re wild carding gw 4 or 6. I do think a cheap bench is fine.. you don’t want a bench headache so early. Load your teams with strong talismen.

    Here’s my starting 8:

    Saka - Diaz - Jota - Eze - Gordon
    Haaland - Isak

I could downgrade Gordon to ESR and upgrade one of my defenders to get Saliba.. we will see.

Jota nailed for first 6 weeks you think?

Week 3 Isak and Gordon v Tottenham, and Pool v Man Utd. Probably nothing to worry about tho! Seems decent. Don't hate the ESR move, plenty of options as well.

As a non Haaland main, am struggling to decide if I should go all-in defence, or get that third premium Mid/Fwd. Thoughts?!

    Current squad (0.5 ITB):
    Flekk/Areola
    Saliba / TAA / Gvard / Barco / Harwood-Bellis
    Saka / Salah / Eze / Jota / Garnacho
    Muniz / Isak / J. Pedro

    A) downgrade TAA/Gvard > 4.5 and upgrade a striker
    B) downgrade TAA/Gvard > 4.5 and upgrade a mid
    C) Keep the premium defence.

    Thanks 🙂

I've gone absolute bare bones defence as it stands (I think my current draft spends 30M on keepers and defenders), although I'm toying with bringing Trent in.

It's down to what your plan is, do you want a 'set and forget' front 7, or a front 6 with some rotation. If your squad rotates well in attack, then I'd stick with what you have, if you find it being some weeks you want all 8, others only 5 or 6 then I'd consider the change. Only issue with the downgrades is the nailedness/like for like swaps within each team (assuming you want a City to replace city or pool to replace pool). Robertson's minutes could be iffy and VVD/Quansah are largely relying on clean sheets for points and goodness knows who Pep's going to start outside of Gvardiol.

If you're looking to go set and forget front 7 then you could even drop Pedro to a 4.5 (Jebbinson?) and use the extra million on a midfielder (or a mid to someone like Winks and upgrade Pedro or Muniz).

Same for me. I’ve gone light in the back with 30.5 spent on Goalies and defence, with good rotation pairings for the first 6-8 weeks.
After thinking of going with neither, I’ve opted for both Haaland and Salah due to fixtures, along with Bruno, Isak and Havertz.
However I’ll start making changes from GW2, most probably going Haaland > Watkins and reinforcing the back or midfield and slowly build to my solid 6-8 players.
GW6 Wildcard is on the cards, bringing more Arsenal and City.

Having gone from a fairly certain front 8 I'm now wavering on a few. My main decisions:

Haaland and Salah, or just Haaland, and if just Haaland which premium mid replaces Salah (I'm a big Jota fan in fpl when fit, I think he's a very viable alternative/addition to Salah to cover Liverpool but I'm torn between Son and Saka as the other 'expensive' midfielder).

Palmer or Nkunku (Not convinced Palmer starts week 1, or that it really matters).

3rd Striker (currently on DCL, tempted to punt on Jebbison before Bournemouth replace Solanke to free some funds, or switch to Wood [I have Andreas to cover Fulham])

How much damage has ESR done to Andreas's potential? Should still be on pens/set pieces, but looks to be playing much deeper.

    1. Rhysd007
      • 13 Years
      1 year, 3 months ago

I'd avoid Chelsea until we see more of a settled team, and the fact they play MCI.

Diaz over Salah if you need the money, but he has a nasty habit of hauling when I chose a non Salah asset for Pool!

I'd avoid Andreas until you can answer your question after a few games. MGW / ESR / CHO are all options.

Let me know your thoughts on my problem ^ ! GLGL

Been tinkering with that as well. I’m keeping my eye on Szoboszlai as a productive No.10. He may be more nailed than other Pool mids and fwds besides Salah.
Looks like ESR has a more forward role, bringing more threat. I’m on the fence between him and CHO.
I’ve gone Nkunku for now, with possible bench in GW1 in favour or Rogers.
Will be changing Haaland for Watkins from GW3, potentially bagging a slight price rise if he does well against IPS.

Unsure on KDB mins to start the season.

Also avoiding Nkunku cos Chelski have so many assets there.

Both should come in for me at some point tho. Don't hate starting with them but I would prefer Saka over KDB to start.
