The FPL launch understandably dominated our discussions after the 2015/16 game went live yesterday morning. Our community writers and hot topic posters offered valuable advice on every aspect of Fantasy Football, from rule changes to team selection, and from bonus points to getting the funniest team name. Our Members have also been busy constructing tables to help gain a further insight into the players that have the potential to bring the community success in 2015/16.

The Community Articles

Our community writers have timed their articles perfectly this week to ensure they offer the best advice on selecting the perfect FPL side. Bowstring the Trout’s analysis of exactly where teams like to attack is key when debating whether to draft in a central midfielder, striker or winger from a side.

Meanwhile, The Shoemaker has taken a closer look at last season’s bonus point allocation as well as some must-read research into how much initial pricing can indicate whether a player will succeed as a Fantasy prospect.

For The Puntmaster, 2015/16’s new Premier League recruits have caught the eye. His excellent research looks at their performance in other leagues last season to see how they would have fared in England’s top-flight.

Those teams best-suited for a cheap defender rotation strategy have come under Jaffalicious’s microscope, while MatchoftheDan has been looking back on his poor 2014/15 FPL campaign to see how he can improve next season.

The Sky Sports game is also due to launch soon and offers one of the biggest cash prizes in Fantasy Football. For those looking to turn their Fantasy prowess into hard currency, Buffrey presented his top tips for success in the Sky game.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

A key ritual for many Fantasy managers is to attempt to get the lowest ID number possible in FPL. MaxUn1ted proved the fastest on the draw this summer, snatching the coveted number one ID as soon as FPL launched late on Thursday morning.

For those yet to sign up and pick a squad name, we launched a search for the funniest team names, with some particularly cringe worthy puns on display for inspiration.

With teams in place, the community started to get their heads around some crucial rule changes. Chief among these was the ability to use ‘chips’ for one Gameweek only to boost captaincy scores, bring in bench scores and construct an all out attacking line up.

Amongst the ensuing discussions was our post on some potentially lucrative weeks to use your chips outside of the obvious double Gameweeks. Andy85wsm was also on hand to flag up the changes to the game as well as the new deadlines and wildcard changes, which now afford us a wildcard for each half of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Demi offered his early thoughts on some of the player prices. Expensive players, in particular, were the focus of our discussion on the best heavy hitters to draft in.

The 2015/16 FPL also has a number of changes to its Bonus Point System (BPS), which is used to calculate bonus points. Ziegler1988 was among the first to flag up these changes, while in our follow-up discussion on the BPS, we considered how slick passers are set to miss out, while tough tacklers and dynamic centre backs could benefit.

With teams in place, names chosen and new rules assessed, the community then turned its attention to getting the most out of value players through rotation. Doosra took a look at the best three-way rotation for those with a keen eye on fixture combinations. For TeddY, the best goalkeeper combinations available took centre stage, while Giggs Boson was on hand to tell us the best fixtures for potential clean sheets next season.

Other issues to consider in selecting the perfect FPL side are whether a player can benefit from penalties. But according to our discussion the jury is still out as to whether spot-kicks really offer added value to our sides.

Finally, this week also saw the launch of our Members area RMT and Projections tools. As our discussion on RMT scores submitted so far showed, finding the right teaam balance is proving a tricky task.

The Members Tables

To help understand how the changes to FPL’s BPS will effect players chance of gaining bonus points D1sable has constructed this table looking at the toughest tacklers. While Doosra has made this table looking at another area of change, pass completion, as well as tackling and players’ disciplinary record.

For those specifically interested in how some of the top defenders in the game will be affected by the BPS change, I have updated my Arsenal and Chelsea tables to include tackling, CBI and passing statistics.

Another change to the BPS involves greater recognition of goalkeeper saves. Barryyuen’s table provides a timely look at last season’s top savers. By switching to 2013/14’s figures this gives a good indication of Norwich keeper John Ruddy’s potential for extra points.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

I have Costa, Rooney, Sakho atm, really like Sakho's price. Left 1m in the bank for Kun, so I'll need to do is ditch Rooney/Mata and Costa to get him, that's where Austin come in.

More than Ings, obviously. Scored way more points, and Ings is expected to be on bench at Liverpool. Only if Austin played for a relegation fodder team where the player prices generally are way lower, he'd be 7.5. But they already gave Cabaye 6.5 price at Palace. Why no 8.0-8.5 to Austin?

18 goals playing for the worst team in the league last season where often he had to track back and defend in his own 6 yard box. Would to love to see him with the likes of Cabaye, Bolasie, Zaha, Puncheon etc supplying the ammo.

Repost.. 🙂 (not an RMT atleast)

I stopped paying attention to Spurs towards the end of the season since i had Kane on autopilot and dint bother watching them.. i have this very faint memory of CS's at the tail end of the season though. Did that really happen? i know players like Eriksen, Lamela et al struggled with Pochettinos system early on and their total lack of defensive duties cost them. did it really improve at the end? basically i want to know if Toby could be worth 5 million considering he is now gonna be alongside Vertonghen. Not to mention Trippier joining(though i'm still unsure if that's a good thing).
So a punt on Toby @5.. Yes or No?

Yup. Will have just one of them.. that leaves 4 spots in my team and i dont want 3 5.0 defenders alongside my premium.. basically comes down to 2 out of 3 of Lescott/Cedric/Toby.. and i love Pulis 🙂

          Ivan, Cedric, Morgan, Coates, Francis

There are options for 5.5, I'd be sorely tempted by Darmian for example. Not Cresswell though, away games are too tough for a play every week defender

Is it nuts to build a team that racks up points in GW 1 and GW 2 and then wildcard in GW 3 based on who played and who didn't play in the first week or second week? You'd end up avoiding issues posed by Chelsea vs City and United vs Spurs, making it easier to settle on lineups with all those players...I dunno I'm probably nuts, what do you guys think?

Valon Behrami has passed his medical and will join Watford from Hamburger SV for around €3 million (I've seen figures mentioned of anything between €2m to €3.5m).

HSV are mighty relieved to get rid of the player. Although he did a good job before Christmas in terms of protecting their defence, it soon became apparent that Behrami lacked the technical skills to bring other players into the game and initiate attscks. He's good at breaking up play, but there are a lot of missed passes too.

As HSV moved perilously close to their first ever relegation from the Bundesliga in the New Year, Behrami missed a lot of games with a knee injury and didn't seem mentally prepared for a fight against the drop - so what does he think awaits him at Watford?

If you add into the equation the fact that the Swiss midfielder was on high wages in relation to other HSV players, and no-one was sure whether he'd pass the medical due to his knee, then this a much better deal than the Hamburg club thought they would ever get.

    @Ziegler1988

    But then there's this..

2 CBIs is 1 BPS instead of 3 CBIs
Successful tackle is worth 2 BPS instead of 1

From another site that uses OPTA stats, I got this...

    Billy Jones in that game - CBI = 7, Tackles won = 4. Increase in BPS = 1 + 4 = 5

    Coates - CBI = 13, Tackles won = 3. Increase in BPS = 2 + 3 = 5

Seems like Panti still wouldn't have made it into the BAPS here

Yeah, in this case, Pantilimon did nothing. Just had 2 saves. That's just 2 extra BPS for him in the new system

If we don't play Ox enough this year, I would be really surprised and enraged.
Absolutely cracking player, and I would wish he has the RM spot nailed for the season, the only reason that will not happen is Ramsey and Cazorla are both too good to be on the bench, but still, Ox is a better RM than Ramsey.

We'll see how we go about it.

Whoever makes way for him you'd surely be enraged that they were dropped?

Nope. Ox has what most of the other Arsenal midfielders lack: tenacity. I'd play Ox ahead of Ramsey, but I am not the manager.

Quite like the balance of this team. Kolarov is in there for now just for laughs, probably won't end up picking him. Possibly also Sakho->Deeney to use that 1.0 elsewhere. Aguero in by downgrading Silva if needed.

    Schmeichel Hamer
    Azpi Kolarov Cedric O'Shea Francis
    Fab Ramsey Silva Ritchie Wanyama
    Rooney Costa Sakho

Same here mate, he's in my team. Suits Sherwood's style of play too, he'll get Richards bombing forward at every available opportunity.

Of course, he'll get injured by about GW5 but we can stash him on the bench for a bit once that inevitably happens.

I like it decent and different to most teams posted on here so far. Yoshida prob wont start every game but you know that already. Question marks over vardys starts depending on the new manager (If Martin O'Neill would seem like his kind of wholehearted player).

Now that we have 2 WC's, and the first one must be used before 28th Dec, are people approaching defensive rotations differently? I'm finding that I'm only looking 6-8 GW's ahead.

      1. Twisted Saltergater
        • 16 Years
        10 years, 5 months ago

Exactly. The fact that we know we must use it or lose it before GW20, means we should be splitting those 19 GW's into 2 parts. That means we only need to focus on rotations for up to 10 weeks or shorter when you factor in knowing about team form, who's struggling, preferred formations and starting 11's.

I think he is a better all round player then fab and will be suited to the physicality against the so called weaker teams.
Basically he will be getting tackles/passes shots the works.
Depends on his price all the same.
