The dangers of a strong front eight were exposed this week as those who benched or drafted out the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Odion Ighalo were left heartbroken. The great form of Mahrez and his team-mate Jamie Vardy dominated the thoughts of our community writers and hot topic posts this week. We also look at colourful team form, the latest stats from our Members tables and catch up on those who are at the summit of our community leagues, with a little help from Leicester’s stars no doubt.

The Community Articles

Jose’s Magic Omelette has taken a detailed look at the form of Mahrez and Vardy to see if they can be season keepers or not, while the duo also get a mention in Your Mum’s Athletic‘s latest Gameweek predictions based on what the bookies say.

Form continues to be the focus of The Sarjeant’s regular weekly community article. This week his insight has been bolstered by a colourful look at the best and worst attacks and defences over the last six Gameweeks.

Bowstring the Carp’s latest monthly review provides a fascinating insight into the players that helped shape October’s scores. He also looks ahead to this month’s fixture list to pick out some key targets to consider, with Rodellegabomb‘s analysis of a trio of bandwagons ahead of the weekend providing further options.

Meanwhile, congratulations to Bowstring the Carp who wins a £20 Amazon voucher after you voted him community writer of the month for October, fittingly for his monthly review series.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Mahrez and Vardy also took centre stage in our discussion on the merits of doubling up on attackers and midfielders from the same team.

There were certainly plenty of community members who were pleased they had both in their starting XI, according to our Rough with the Smooth round up of your best and worst Gameweek 11 decisions.

But Demi wonders whether investing in the duo is sustainable through tough fixturesDoolittle is also not getting too carried away and urges caution in considering captaining one of the pair against a resilient Watford side.

Leicester’s opponents were also the focus of Applebonkers, who watched West Brom capitulate against the might of Mahrez last weekend and wondered whether pacey wingers are their Achilles heel.

With the Sergio Aguero cash spent by many on midfield upgrades, plenty of the community find themselves with some tough selection choices ahead. Our discussion on the perils of a great front eight was particularly apt for those who benched a high scoring player last Gameweek. Help is at hand, though, with the All Out Attack chip, according to TorresMagic.

Elsewhere, S Kuqi is in the market for a new defender. Among options to be considered in his discussion on top defensive targets was Liverpool’s forward-thinking full-back, Alberto Moreno.

Arsenal’s problems in defence, with Hector Bellerin ruled out and Laurent Koscielny a doubt, mean their assets may be best avoided going into the North London Derby this weekend. Limpar was on hand with an array of statistics looking in detail at his regular fixture, while Zasa also provided a wealth of figures to prepare the community for all Gameweek 12’s matches. Sticking with the Derby, Neighmar provided an interesting analysis of just how effective Alexis Sanchez is when both Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud are on the pitch.

Meanwhile, our Hall of Fame has been updated to take into account Gameweek 11’s games. Members can see the latest standings here. One community member who has seen his rankings plummet this season is Boris Bodega, who bravely shared his whole season of mishaps and blunders.

The Members Tables

With Philippe Coutinho, Graziano Pelle and Ighalo proving the worth of my goals imminent table, here is the latest update ahead of Gameweek 12Wakey’s latest table on team statistics over the last four Gameweeks gives a detailed look at how far Manchester United and Chelsea have sunk in terms of attack.

For those looking at investing in Everton Doosra has served up a deliciously named table called Doosra’s Toffee Apples looking at their best players over the last four matches.

The Community Tournaments

Congratulations to Wild Rover. He scooped £1,000 after gaining the highest October score in Ultimate Fantasy Premier League, the sister game of FPL. He is also in with a chance of winning the season-long game, too, as he is currently third in our league and sits fourth in the overall rankings.

Ahead of the launch of the FIFFSA Five-a-side competition, Gameweek 11 saw a friendly against those sides already registered. The full list of winners can be found here courtesy of Rodellegabomb’s update.

Jaffalicious also popped by with an update from the group stages of the FFS UEFA Champions League competition.

Evs takes his turn to play second fiddle to Andy in the FFScout moderators and contributors league. League leader Andy now has a 63-point lead and has a top 100 overall rank for the first time this season.

The first round of BaldersCommunity Grand Play Offs is now complete with a number of moderators and contributors leaving, while inTorresMagic’s Last Man Standing the safety score was 46, which saw 141 players depart and 1588 remain.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

    Repost...

Can anyone give me suggestions as to how you would weight these stats when considering a player? Using percentages perhaps?

    - Shots in the box
    - % Shots on Target
    - Chances Created
    - Big Chances
    - Big Chance Involvement(The amount of the team's overall big chances that falls to the particular player)

    Thank you 🙂

      - Shots in the box (35%)
      - % Shots on Target (15%)
      - Chances Created (20%) -----
      - Big Chances (20%)
      - Big Chance Involvement(10%)

Forwards - Lower SiTB imo, SoT highest, followed by Big chances & then SiTB & conversion rate

Well for mids like KdB & Özil were they went won't venture as much into the box like say Sánchez & Mané, I'd rate them on their particular creativity first. So, as a basic metric chances created first, key passes, dead zone passing per 90

              • 10 Years

But then we should target mids like Sanchez and Mane more? Don't you think?

Both have their merits, Özil's nearly matched Sánchez output with 8 assists & one goal to Sánchez's 6 goals since Gw5.

Its just that I have noticed that all no.10's start the season strongly with assists but gradually stop producing (in the last 2-3 seasons)

Not KdB, nor Özil, au-contraire last season. Curious, do you have any research to back that up mate? That's a very bold statement.

                      Yes - but nothing concrete

Fabregas and Siggy are on the top of my mind

What I am saying is you cannot expect Ozil to continue at this rate....i.e - 30 assists in a season rate

                        • 10 Years
                        10 years, 1 month ago

I am not saying that all mids do not perform well in the second half of the season but that creative mids like Ozil produce for 5-6 weeks in a row and then embark on a barren run

Other than gut instinct, there are no signs of it slowing it down that drastically. Maybe not 30 assists this season, but around 17-23 aren't inconceivable considering Arsenal's attack first & foremost have dominant xG, have improved their finishing this year & Özil's has one of the best open play danger zone passing per 90 stats in all of Éurope this season.

Most successful final-third passes (265), & most chances created (47) in the PL so far on top of that. That's 14 less chances created than all of ManUnited.

Cheers...will come up with a revised version in a tick. Hoping to make some Captaincy Calculations and predictions for this week. Would be interesting to see how it fares at the end of the GW. 🙂

Also would prefer to have a general framework I can apply to all players. Hard to compare a FWD's value with a MID's value if they were judged under different frameworks.

Since goals and assists are worth different amounts respectively as well as being worth different amounts for defenders, midfielders and strikers you could weight chances created down compared to SOT, SIB and BC as appropriate for the category of player in question.

I wish I could tell you man, but I just don't know which will score more so I'm just going to say who I've decided to captain since it makes me more comfortable of my own decision (Mahrez)

I'm considering playing my AOA chip this GW and going with:

    Butland

    Moreno Smalling

    Payet Sanchez KDB Mane Barkley

    Pelle Perez (c) Vardy

    Bench: Hennessey Cathcart Janmaat Bellerin

    Thoughts? Cheers 🙂

I'm stuck with Richards, Francis, Hoolahan and McCarthy on my bench ATM. But have funds to move out Vardy or Pelle for Agüero when he's back.

Thinking that Palace's Ward or Hennessey might help out GW13 onwards.

    Do I:

    A) Save my FT this week (and play Toby, Cédric, Kolorov and Myhill) so I have 2 FTs after the international break?
    B) Bring in Rojo for Richards and bench Toby?
    C) Bring in Rojo for Toby and bring in Moreno for Richards later?

    Any thoughts most appreciated.

Sorry I sold Sterling now. I've still got Gomis though, so no one can accuse me of not giving the players a chance.

The problem is that w/o Kun & Silva there is a diminishing effect. This game will be closer than many think imho.

    KDB.

Close to captaining this guy, but think I am going to look elsewhere.

Expect him to be wide and he hasn't sparkled of late. Still hope he'll score well, but there are probably better options. I think it's just comfortable captaining a City player.

Anyone care to comment either way?

Totally agree with your thinking. He has looked less effective out wide and there is a massive comfort in having the C on a player from a 'big' team. On Vardy myself

    Switched off Vardy

    Mahrez cap Sanchez Vc
Only one blank for Mahrez all season and that was when only played 45 minutes, and he does not have the pressure of a record to worry about like Vrdy does

One person's pressure is another's motivation. Can look at it either way.

Wasn't worth the caps lock or the WC. Spend the break on it.
