Scout Academy

Introducing the Scout Academy for the 2020/21 season

Are you a budding FPL blogger, writer, YouTuber or social media star? From tutorials to promotion, we want to help the next wave of Fantasy talent.

The Scout Academy is a brand new initiative from Fantasy Football Scout designed to support, encourage and foster up-and-coming hopefuls.

On the back of last week’s incredibly successful launch of the Scout Network, the Scout Academy is aimed at Fantasy creators who are just starting out or just starting to be serious about content creating, toolmaking or becoming influencers in the Fantasy Football arena.

The Academy will be a place that the next generation of talent can hone their skills as well as get the support and guidance on the specific areas they need to achieve their goals and broaden their reach.

As well as this, the Scout Academy will help generate and deploy ideas to grow their individual projects, tools, handles and channels to help to achieve success for our partners. The Scout Academy will offer its members advice and interviews from leading Tweeters, toolmakers and YouTubers as well as links to useful resources to help people get started or improve their output.

How’s this team with Bruno on the bench to slot in after blank:

    McCarthy
    TAA,Dier,Saiss,KWP
    Salah,Auba,ASM,Armstrong
    Werner,Mitrovic

    Fabri, Mitchell, Davis, Bruno

Haven’t really tinkered since getting this team. Any moves necessary?

It's good considering you'll save the transfer and still put out a strong enough GW1

          Why didn’t you then? =)

Promoted teams often start like the sex in a new relationship then fade away to routine spankings. I can see Leeds causing Liverpool a few issues myself.

I chickened out...haha that game could easily be WBA -1 LEI - 0. I also have a strange feeling that inconsistent Everton beat inconsistent Spurs.

The inability of people to make their own mind up when playing FPL seems to have created a market where they’ll pay to be told what to do.

There's nothing these 'experts' in a video can share that I don't already know.

The content I want is interesting data analysis and there's a lot less of that in the video sphere because frankly it's harder to engage with and most people don't understand what these statistics mean.

There’s also actual journalism elsewhere like The Athletic, Zonal Marking, F365 and Four Four Two that’ll give a much better overview of PL teams than someone sat in the mam’s bedroom in their pants with a webcam and a Twitter account.

So in your head, anyone that doesn't use stats and data analysis to help them in FPL are not doing it by choice, they're doing it because they're too dim to understand the stats.

To be fair to them, they are offering help on the social media side rather than the being an FPL expert side, which is nice becasue in some 'industries' (it's not a real industry is it), the ITKs would try to keep it to themselves. However, it is still probably a clique but that's people everywhere. Can't see 'FPL Mate' being invited in.

    Thoughts on this:

    McC
    Doherty, TAA, Justin, (Vinagre)
    Salah, Auba, Arm, (Soucek)
    Werner, Vardy, Mitro

Bench: Steer - Stephens, Mitchell (one of Vin or Sou).
Going to rotate a 4-4-2/4-3-3 depending on fixture with Man City and Man Utd players coming in GW3.

1 - Is Vinagre safe to start or is he getting competition?

2 - Thoughts on Thiago Silva from the off? Personally I think he was nicely priced at 5.5 and should finish the season around 6.5.

    1. Chandler Bing
      • 7 Years
      3 years, 7 months ago

      1. Safe unless Wolves sign a player.

      2. Wouldn't touch him. Won't have offensive threat and we still need to see how this Chelsea team gels together with all the new signings (and more to come).

    2. schlupptheweek
      • 9 Years
      3 years, 7 months ago

1 - Vinagre will almost certainly start the season (80% chance), but expect him to be one of the first to be rated. Vinagre is very talented so Nuno will want to give him the opportunity to develop, if we sign someone Nuno is unlikely to throw them straight in. I would be more worried about Nuno doing something funny occasionally like putting Dendoncker or another midfielder in a similar position to Vinagre.

2 - Silva is a great player but there are cheaper players with more attacking potential with defences of similar or better record e.g. Walker-Pieters, Vinagre etc. He's not a bad pick just there not a massive upside for 5.5M.

    3. Bobby Digital

Possibly, his fixtures fit my rotation better. The ownership of Vinagre is threating though.

      Vinagre should start

T.Silva doesn’t have enough of a goal record to get anywhere near 6.5 - if he improves the Chelsea defence he will have a CB partner at 0.5 less or Chilwell available at the same price with attacking threat

I have always been a big Thiago Silva supporter, but he will be 36 years old this month. Not sure what we are expecting him to do attacking-wise, he has had 1 goal 1 assist TOTAL last 3 seasons in Ligue 1.

So I’ve decided to go without TAA.

    McCarthy/Steer
    Digne Doherty Egan Mitchell Johnson
    Salah Auba Alli Pereira Soucek
    Vardy Ings Brewster
    0.5 ITB

Defence. I’ve left TAA out purely because I think the three I have will keep more clean sheets. I appreciate TAA is for so much more than that, but I have Digne and Doherty who I think will score more points than him in the first 5. The argument with Doherty is strange as Aurier was given a lot of attacking freedom and I expect him to have the same. I’ve chosen Digne as a bit of a differential but Everton’s potential signings intrigue me and I think he could be in for a big season.

Midfield. I’ve gone for Alli over Son. Was really hoping for OOP son but it’s looking so likely he will be shoved out wide and I think Alli has something to prove. A bit of a gamble but this position is closely monitored for Greenwood/Ziyech so I’m happy. Pereira is the main gamble I have. He had a great season in the championship, and is clearly the most influential in that side. I rate Bilic and he’s an attacking manager. Extremely slim pickings but with 0.5 could be shifted on for Foden if he is in that missing Silva spot.
Strikers. I have 42 PL goals in my attack. There’s arguments for Mitrovic, who was a let down last time, Adams, who will definitely share time with Long and Obafemi, but I just can’t look beyond who will play 90 minutes and finds the back of the net on a regular basis.

Just my thoughts on my selections and maybe convincing some of you to re think, or call me out for being crazy for leaving out some others that you have in your team. Thanks for reading 😀

I feel like it’s a very big risk going without him, and I know as humans we like to take risks, but I don’t think this will pay off.

There is little upside to this team at all, and the mid/fwds are the same as a team with Trent in.

He will punish you oh so hard, but it is your choice and your team 🙂

FWIW I had benched him for both of his mega hauls last season thinking I was clever and still achieved 2k OR. He will most definitely be in my team this season, just feel that playing the fixtures the first few weeks is something I can’t stop thinking about, and I see goals from Chelsea, Arsenal and maybe even Leeds opening game.

I also benched/sold him those two mega hauls which was obviously hugely annoying.

I just think he is hugely under-priced and this makes him very difficult to go without. Should have been at least 8.0, maybe even 8.5 to encourage more people to go without or to go for alternatives. He finished at 7.7 last season so in a way FPL actually lowered his price, despite him being the 4th highest scorer in the whole game.

Hope someone finds a calling from this... everyone should have the chance to make their hobby their life.

Also, that Duffy loan has really set the cat amongst the pigeons for me... I was happy with Lamptey, but now I'm like should I be on White? I really want 5 wing-backs though. James, Justin, Vingare, Sess and Ayling for now...

There are a few modifications which could be made to really transform the game. We've seen the emergence of attacking wing-backs who still labelled as defenders, we have defensive midfielders who are never picked by anyone.

If we saw a defensive midfielder category that had the potential to receive increased points from clean sheets, a wing back category that had a hybrid of attacking and defensive returns and a winger / inside forward category that was priced slightly differently from other midfielders & strikers it would lead to many more varied options and avoid the drifting towards template team structrures.

I think we need to split midfield into two positions Central Mid Attacking Mid, with players required to select three of each.

      2 keepers
      5 defenders
      3 CM
      3 AM
      2 FWD

I feel like there's value in the budget forwards. We just don't know it yet.

DCL, Nketiah, Adams, Mitro, Antonio, Wood, Maupay, Rodrigo, McBurnie

A few of these are bound to get hot.

DCL, Nketiah, Adams are frontrunners for me because they have the good fixtures. But even someone like McBurnie could easily come to life.

We shy away because we don't know which of them is hot but maybe the play is just to go for it. Pick one and hope you get the next Pukki. There is always at least 1, sometimes 2 or 3 that prove good.

I think it is hard to look past Mitro at the price. He is nailed, talisman, on pens, top scorer in C'ship last year, has previous PL experience, is still only 25 so still possibly improving. Fixtures aren't awful. There are question marks over the others imo, but surely a few will do well. With Manc blank GW1 don't see many people having spare FTs to hokey cokey their budget forward position.

DCL - Could be decent but 7mil is fairly pricey for a player who just isn't very good at scoring goals.
Nketiah - Bit of a wait and see with where Laca goes. Also possibility of Auba going up front. Ars fixtures turn nasty quick.
Adams - Like the potential there. Will have minutes managed most likely but should score some goals.
          Antonio - Fixtures, Haller back.
Wood - Interesting option. Blank GW at the beginning doesn't help but could be a good shout from GW3 onwards. Personally, not sure about Burnley this season, don't think they will score many.
Maupay - Potter Roulette, not exactly a good finisher, poor enough fixtures.

But the thing about forwards is that they're less fixture dependent than defenders. They can always nick random goals against the run of play and are much more streaky/confidence related. All of those guys are capable of scoring a goal against anyone.

Adams scored against City last year in a 1-0 win.

This is true. But still, fixtures are somewhat relevant. If Adams played City 100 times and played West Brom 100 times, it is fair to say he would score more goals vs West Brom.

What are some players who you are considering who aren't 'template?' Seeing lots of RMTs here who are all various versions of each other, it can seem that there are only 25-30 players who are mentioned on here. For me:

    - Bertrand. By all accounts was very attacking in a recent friendly. It might be a case similar to Spurs where one LB/RB is given more license to attack than the other. Sou have good fixtures overall and I think a double up with McCarthy is a risk worth considering. Is he worth .5 more than KWP? Not sure. But worth thinking about.

    - Jimenez. Ok, so hardly a differential in the usual sense of the word. But it seems that Werner, who has undoubted potential but is both more expensive and unproven in PL, has just become an automatic in most people's teams. Including my own.

    - Zaha. Looks in good form in preseason and very possibly will be OOP. Nailed and central to most of what Palace do. For long term planners, his fixtures from GW5-13 look ideal. Zaha is nearly 28yrs old and I think personally that his time to secure a move to a bigger club is fast running out. He might be more motivated than ever to put himself in the shop window.

Any others that you think are flying under the radar?

      There are plenty.

Digne, Saka, Nketiah, Alli (still less than 3% ownership), Adams.

I have seen Adams and Alli mentioned a decent amount on here, but didn't realize that Alli had such low ownership. Interesting. I have Son currently but Alli does interest me - Mou seems to like him and his preseason form is decent. Might be more attacking than Son in Mou's setup.

Everton are a side I'm looking at. Their assets just seem a tad overpriced for me. Bit disappointed that Digne came in at 6.0.

Jarrod Bowen. 0.9% owned. Stats were excellent post lockdown. Has Championsip pedigree (which I think can translate to the PL). Plays a Dubravka-less Newcastle in GW1, and is the perfect price to be a placeholder for Phil Foden.

Be interesting to see how Eze slots in and whether Roy moves for another forward. Hard sell on Zaha though, when Ziyech, Pulisic, Greenwood and potentially Havertz are all priced around the same and play in much more attacking teams. It’s still Roy.

Eze might help Palace's attacking play in general, which might benefit Zaha also. Can't see myself owning Zaha from the off but I do think he has potential in those fixtures mentioned. Probably 0.5 too steep in price though.

Alli. With Kane going to be up top, Son will revert to the wing, with Alli playing much more central and looking sharp so far in friendlies. He had some really high scoring seasons before having 2 injury ravaged seasons, and even last season his stats when fit were really promising. For the price I think he’s worth a punt, if it doesn’t work Chelsea assets are available for a similar price point.

Adams. If Southampton play two up top and he nails the position he could do very well this season, it will depend on his minutes though. He could well just get 60-70 ever week.

Robbo. I know he’s a premium and vvd has almost matched for last two season for .5 less but he has looked much better recently and could well have another 200+ season in him

Dier much more nailed. The LB/LWB in Jose's Spurs system doesn't get nearly as far advanced as the RWB. Besides, Sessegnon can swoop in, so its a bit of a gamble to pay 5.0 for a player you cannot say with 100% is nailed on.

    RMT

    Aubameyang Mane Alli Ziyech Bowen
    Vardy Adams

    Peacock-Farrell Vinagre Brewster Mitchell

    0.0m ITB

    Plans
    - Bowen becomes Foden by GW2/3
    - Aubameyang becomes de Bruyne by GW 3/4
    - Vardy becomes Werner/Martial (depending on what happens)

I think the opposite. You can weaponize the ownership.

He will be practically price locked until after the Liverpool game because his ownership is so high and if he blanks in the first two there will be a huge firesale and his price will tank.

The first two fixtures are also not the easiest. You will want him for GW3-5 really.

ownership works both ways. I wouldn't worry about that tbh. It isn't unwise to give him a couple of games to see how he settles. Been so many big flops in this game it is almost a lesson worth learning

    Looking to save wildcard.

Defence is currently taa, dier, justin, vinagre, taylor.

    Would you downgrade a 4.5m to a 4m?

Mitchell surely loses his place when Paris back....thanks

Might as well. When was the last time you had to call your 5th def off the bench.

Week one I bet and Im thinking about it seriously, the two blanks have had a massive effect to the team I would of liked to pick to start with. It all feels weard like I’m starting a week behind.

So a slightly different draft to get around GW1 blanks.
Greenwood on the bench and 2 mil ITB for Willian (1 week punt) to Rashford in GW2 leaves .5 spare. Only I premium mid for now but Rashford and Son can easily become say Salah and a 6.5 mid if needed.

    McCarthy

    TAA VVD Doherty KWP Vinagre

    Auba Son Willian Armstrong

    Werner

    Nyland Greenwood Brewster
    Wickham

If Nuno chooses not to put Traore into that spot there is a possible 4.0 in Burr, but it’s a monitor situation.

    A) Doherty, Tierney and James
    Or
    B) TAA and 2x4.5’s

I like A and see your thinking, but it would hurt every single time Trent does anything. So B with two 90min 4.5s

      B.

TAA not optional when fit at that price imo.
