My first and last RMT of the summer. Feels flexible enough with a couple of risky options thrown in the mix. 0itb

    Onana
    Stones Gabriel Estu
    Saka Bruno Foden Mitoma
    Haaland Jesus Nkunku

    (4.0 Diaby Henry Kabore)

Not happy but it’s just due to the existence of perma cap Haaland isn’t it. I want to see which value pick takes off for them first, Jota, Diaz, Darwin etc.

Nice team, don't like it being 100m. Prefer having 0.5itb for the flexibility over first few gw. & no way of knowing if we have a starting 4.0 gk yet. Good effort tho, esp like the Diaby pick.

Until yesterday, I had both. Now I'm concerned that they're not going to get a striker until late on, and he won't be bedded in by GW1. I fear this will adversely impact Rash and Bruno. I've reduced myself to starting with only one, and I wouldn't rule out omitting both if they don't show attacking cohesion before the season starts.

Morning all - has there been any data analysis articles on this site or otherwise which look at the accuracy of “A premium isn’t worth it if you never captain them”?

I see it used regularly as an argument for no 2nd premium but does data actually support it?

    1. AC/DC AFC
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member
      • 10 Years
      2 years, 4 months ago

As a rule of thumb, the value per season metric has the premiums down the pecking order, other than for Trippier and Kane in the FPL transfer section.

Must admit that i don't know exactly what goes into the relative score, probably price and points but i don't know what 31 or 29 means.

There used to be a points per million metric.

It's a good question and you'd expect some stats analysis to have been done.

Albeit it's logical if you are paying ten million+ to double your bang for your bucks with the captain over the others.

    2. Hairy Potter
      • 10 Years
      2 years, 4 months ago

I think the assumption is that an additional premium brings with it a budget player to make up the starting 11.

If you're not going to captain the premium, then it might be better having 2 mid price players who would outscore the premium/budget pair.

This view doesn't take into account formation though, in my opinion. The best Salah drafts I've seen are 4-4-2 where that 4th defender might get more points than a 5th mid.

Not sure if data actually backs any of this up.

On the desktop version you can sort players by value, which gives last seasons points divided by this seasons price. It tends to be the lower / mid priced players that have the highest value. Salah isn’t even on the first page for midfielders, although Kane is actually still third in the list of strikers.

If there is a player you are certain you will captain most of the time (Haaland) then having other players that you expect will give you the highest value might be a good idea. That’s what I’m planning on doing to start with at least

    5. CABAYE4
      • 13 Years
      2 years, 4 months ago

      Thanks all for thoughts.

Value and Points per £m are useful but if you just picked Haaland captain and then filled your team with the top by that metric then you’d have loads in the bank.

Personally I think Salah (and Kane if he stays) are massive differentials. Saka, Rashford, Foden etc. could score well but Salah and Kane will do.

      1. Hairy Potter
        • 10 Years
        2 years, 4 months ago

Yeah, I definitely see the case for Salah, and especially his ability to haul. He could even be a good 2 week punt and GW2 captain and then move to whichever mid priced player(s) is in form.

Kane is consistent, but could possibly be matched by jumping between inform strikers, though that isn't straightforward.

Do you reckon that Bart Verbruggen is pencilled in to start the season or that Steele will feature in gw1 and it's his spot to lose?

    1. CABAYE4
      • 13 Years
      2 years, 4 months ago

You’ve got to think at £16m that they bought Verbruggen for him to be no 1.

I’d imagine it all depends on how he settles in behind the scenes in pre-season. Hopefully RDZ will tell us before GW1.

Yeah, you'd think so and it's logical to play all options in friendlies so that might not be a strong indicator.

Steele looked good against Brentford. Will be interesting to see who starts against Newcastle tonight. Would expect Brighton and Newcastle to have different lineups from Wednesday. If Steele starts then I'd imagine he's nailed for GW1.

You'd give all options a go though, even if you had a strong preference.

Arguably the no.2 should be given more chance to prove themselves but you'd play the new guy to settle into the team if he's starting in the league.

It's the final piece of my puzzle.

I don't like Liverpools early fixtures, except for Bournemouth, considering how bad they were in defence last season and I'm not spending 8m on a defender who might not get many clean sheets. Happy to leave him out and monitor.

4-3-3 becoming more popular it seems.

    Onana
    Stones Gabriel Estupinan
    Rashford Fernandes Saka Foden
    Haaland Saka Jackson

    Areola Colwill Anderson Beyer

    Feels pretty good?

Team thoughts so far…. Looked at it so many times and reasonably happy with the balance despite not being able to get Salah in which is making me uncomfortable.
    Thoughts:-

    Johnstone
    Trent, James, Estupinan
    Saka, rashford, Foden, Maddison, Ensico
    Haaland, Watkins

    Subs:-
    Areola, Pau Torres, Taylor, Balagun
