One factor not mentioned here is having to cheer for a player with such a whiny face for 90 mins.

      It's broadly fine.

I just don't like all the extra fat in defense/GK. You can free up 1.5m just from trimming the bench to the cheapest available.

      Sanchez > 4.0
      Romero > 4.0
      Wood > Welbeck
      Konsa > 4.0

Gives you nearly 2m to go from Konate > TAA with barely any loss to the strength of your starting XI (effectively just Wood > Welbeck).

I sincerely hope the majority of those on a GW4 WC go for a base price bench with Welbeck and Onana playing every week.

Correcting guff teams (like loads sheeped into in GW1) is what WCs are for. Unfortunately if you are WCing now you don't get another one for 15 weeks - having no bench and no WC safety net when we are hardly into September is asking for trouble imo, but very happy for everyone to do their own thing 🙂

Having no bench means that you can tell everyone that you've never made a bad benching decision.

Poor advice imo. Good players on the bench means more chance of being able to roll transfers and not take hits

This is how I've played for 15 years and I've done alright. Lean bench.

If there's an injury crisis, you make transfers to redistribute funds but keep it on the field.

Easy enough to do like Salah + Onana/Rogers > Saka + 7.5m mid. The important thing is that I don't have 1.5m or 2m spread on my bench which stops me from being able to do this and limits my options.

Having a strong bench is overrated imo because you never really want to be fielding those players and if a player with some budget tied up in him becomes injured or undesirable you just end up transferring him out anyway which means the benched 5m def or mid stays there anyway.

It's a matter of FPL philosophy.

There are playing 4m defenders, and 4.5m mids. They aren't great picks, but they still pick up some points. I'm betting that 1.5m more on the field over the season will outweigh the benefit of being able to sub in the 'fat' options over the base price players in case of emergency or to rotate.

You don't see this hidden value of having more money on the field clearly but I think it accrues over the season if you have 1.5m more on the field every week.

It also matches my style because I would rather take hits to get the best available assets than roll transfers, avoid hits and use bench depth. I back myself to find better value than other managers and to leverage this budget as an edge over the season.

It's a lot easier to say 'wow that money I spent on Romero instead of Greaves' was worth it when he subbed in for 6 pts vs Greaves' 1 after an unexpected Jota no-show.

But what you don't see is the 9/10 other weeks when that lean bench means the difference between me having TAA vs Konate.

Having a strong bench is almost redundant now, in the real world managers have 5 subs, even if one of your players don’t start, he’s likely to come on which blocks your bench.

The bench is good this year if you want to rotate options to save transfers but if you’re putting money on the bench in case one of your players don’t start, it feels a bit wasteful, the landscape of the real game has changed with the 5 sub rule.

My bench is Fabianski, Faes, Graves, Winks, I’m fine with that because my 11 is stacked with Raya, Trent, Saka, Salah, Eze & Haaland, if one of those don’t start, I’ll accept it if Infact the bench does come into play, can’t remember getting down to sub 2 or 3 last year.

I don’t think Bruno, Solanke and Munoz were mistakes. Bruno should have had a couple goals, Solanke injury was unlucky, and Muniz… well I’m not sure about him, but he did seem like the best cheap fwd imo if you were concerned about Pedro minutes.

Nkunku and Quansah, yes I think both were small mistakes, as neither were nailed, but they’ve both gone worse than expected.

In summary, you’ve had some bad luck

That's true mate....I agree with you at least on the fact that Solanke was a good move and I might still go for him on a WC if he looks good.....it's been bad luck but the only thing you can do in these cases are laugh it off and move forward

I suppose if you've lived through the Fergie years you're conditioned to think Man Utd are good. The reality is they've lurched from hit and miss to shambles for about 10+ years now. I personally think Ten Hag is a dreadful manager and they'll struggle until he's replaced.

      1. Qaiss
        • 9 Years

Couldn’t believe they kept him just because of the cup win. Coventry almost beat them, if not for a dodgy VAR offside. That’s what’s kept him in the job

Think they could do well if they got someone like Tuchel, but would be more fun for us if they appointed Southgate (who they were linked with)

        1. Tazah

It wasn't a 'dodgy VAR offside', it was OFFSIDE.

Course your invariable bias has conveniently forgotten the ludicrous penalty Cov got in injury time.

          Funny that.

I'll never see the appeal in that.

I'd much prefer to finish at 2m rank having made my own decisions than finish 9k having paid someone else to pick my team.

Making your own decisions and them paying off is the best part about this game

Everyone should do that and not pay others for advice or use AI model cheating to help with their teams

I agree with all the points about making your own decisions, with the information at hand, which is a lot these days.

I don't get the AI models mostly and paying someone for your picks is just outrageous 🙂

I'm not sure if I'd describe using AI as 'cheating' in this sense though. Have AI models ever won or come close to winning FPL? I don't know the answer, just as curious as others.

The FPL Review site seemed to claim that last year's winner took their advice, which I believe people say is based on "AI," though that term seems to get bandied around a lot and I'm never convinced its what's actually going on behind the scenes.

Oh really? Interesting .. Wasn't aware of that

I'm the same as you; I'm not sure what model is behind most FPL AI (tbqh, haven't looked into it much). Is it a group of content creators and/or stat simulation, and then to what degree ..

I'm sure it's in the pipeline, but I'm curious of the maturity level, as are probably a lot of us.

Are there any Saints fans here? Wondering if Adam Armstrong is likely to start vs Man United, after being subbed for Archer at half time last time out. Or is he just a sell even if he is expected to start?

Not sure on replacements now Pedro is a risk coming back from Brazil.

      Definite sell.

If Dibling gets minutes he could be huge for us this season.

Us fans feared he wouldn’t cut it at this level and he proved it vs Brentford in particular with an awful miss,

If you have other fires he should still get mins and will be on pens when on the pitch but we aren’t even in opposition box enough to get a pen

If I wildcard this week or in couple of weeks, i intend to keep Haaland, Saka, TAA, Saliba, Porro from my current team

So now the changeable ones are
    Vardy(5.5) Isak (8.5)
    Jota (7.5) eze (6.9) kudus (6.4) 4.5 mid 4.0 defender 4.0 defender henderson(4.5) 4.0 goalie

So is it worth a wildcard to change
    Jota, eze, kudus, vardy, Isak

    to

Diaz, Madueke, Mbuemo, Havertz and Joao pedro

I don't think it is worth it in your case. Your team isn't that bad for starters and you aren't changing the structure or bringing in any different premium assets on the WC. So just manage the priority transfers from those you mentioned by using your transfers over the coming weeks.

Madueke - I'd want Palmer from WC
Mbuemo - City next up. Can wait for either FT/WC
      Havertz - Can wait
      J.Pedro - Yes, I'd like this week

2 out of 5 for me. Not worth a WC imo

"Chelsea confirm squad for next stage of Conference League.

Wesley Fofana, Cole Palmer and also Romeo Lavia have been left out.

Decision taken due to load management as Chelsea season could go on until July 2025 with Club’s World Cup too."

Well this is only good news for Palmer owners, will get rested when there's midweek matches. Maybe Fofana also can become an option if Chelsea get their defensive tactics together.

Sensible from Chelsea (not sure I would ever write that sentence again, but here we are!) - they should ease to the top 8 in the Conference League no matter what team they put out - the second ranked team in the whole competition is Copenhagen!

With that front line I wouldn't want to play Semenyo, Rogers, JPedro or Wood constantly so being able to rotate them is a huge benefit for myself. Lewis I expect will eventually get downgraded to a 4.0 but who/what would you improve with the extra 0.5? Most weeks I'd start Trent, Porro and Saliba which then means Robinson can compete with the 5M mids/fwds for starts in my team.

Nah I appreciate that, that's why I ask, as I replied above, I would usually be set on Trent/Porro are like midfields with CS potential and Saliba should get good clean sheet points.

With that being said I like that I can rotate Robinson, Rogers, ESR, Semenyo, Wood & J Pedro, based on fixtures
