You’ve probably heard about Joe’s much-liked ‘Goals Imminent’ table. You might listen to his and Marc’s Fantasy Football Scout podcast of the same name. Now, Goals Imminent is here in article form!

Heading towards Gameweek 10 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL), these Members Area statistics identify some underachieving players who look ‘due’ for a goal and/or assist.

Naturally, we’ll attempt to assess whether they’re unlucky, suffering a rare blip, or just aren’t particularly good.

LAST WEEK’S SUCCESSES

FPL notes: Why Gabriel didn't assist Eze's winner

Fresh off the previous Jean-Philippe Mateta (£7.7m) success, we predicted the goals of Eberechi Eze (£7.6m), Mohamed Salah (£14.3m) and Matheus Cunha (£7.9m).

While his highly-selected teammates Bukayo Saka (£10.0m) and Viktor Gyokeres (£9.0m) blanked once more, up stepped Eze to score the winner against former club Crystal Palace.

In and out of Manchester United’s lineup in recent times, Cunha is now off the mark, grabbing a first FPL return since his big summer move.

As for Salah, his late consolation at Brentford was set up by Dominik Szoboszlai (£6.5m) – a name on our assists table.

GOALS IMMINENT

The first table shows players who’ve accumulated at least 10 shots over the latest four Gameweeks, but scored no more than one goal.

    Currently starting 3 defenders

    Timber Muñoz Alderete (Richards Senesi)

Would you start Richards(BRE) (2nd palace defender) over Enzo(tot)?
I think no, but would like to hear what you think

might just be stating the obvious, but does anyone else think this fpl season is just becoming about getting defcon defenders and goal scoring mids in?

Raya, Timber, Calafiori triple up not about DEFCON but very fruitful and the likes of Igor, Welbeck, Kroupi Jr could make things interesting if they keep things up.

Yup, pretty strong templates forming, so will be difficult making up ground (unless captaining VDV or Mbeumo over Haaland..). But the real game starts over Christmas , navigating injuries ,rotation and DGWs

FWD options have a lack of routes to points.
      - no FWD has hit defcon
      - fewer assists
      - less points for a goal
      - no CS points
      - reduced bps for pens

You are saying it as if its some sort of simplification of the game. Previous season it was "just" about getting goal scoring mids/forwards and attacking fullbacks.

A lot of midfielders that are now viable options were unpickable before, theres more options now than before there. Forwards seem to have gotten the short end of the stick though, they pretty much need to score almost a goal a game to feel like a good pick.

      1. Pompel
        • 12 Years
        3 months, 7 days ago

I welcome the introdution of defconds, however I do think that defcon threshold needs to be adjusted down a bit. As for forwards, they probably should get 5 pts for goal scored as well

      2. F4L
        • 11 Years
        3 months, 7 days ago

true, not trying to simplify too much, just thinking about which type of assets to target to get in. like you say outside of strikers there are lots of options, but not sure necessarily agree they're all equally as good for example. like cheap mids getting defcons are very nice no doubt, but they're still enablers. i doubt many get more than 165-175 ish points this season. there arent enough premiums, or even any premiums bar haaland which you'd be confident of 6-6.5+ points per start for the time being, so the enablers kinda lose abit of appeal imo

and seen quite a few comment on it and starting to see it now that once you see a defcon +2 as almost as good as an assist +3, you kinda start to think priorities goal scorers.

no doubt though many avenues to points this season, fpl should be a fun all season long

Impulsively did Paqueta > Gakpo before his price rise despite by planned transfer being Pedro > Mateta weeks ago, poor judgement there.

Stick with my error and go without Palace for this week or activate Free Hit which does have appeal with players I don’t have with nice fixtures.

Only issue with leaving things as they are is I can no longer afford Pedro > Mateta for free (0.1 difference) meaning it needs to be Bowen > Mateta despite Bowen being (h) to Burnley the week after this.

    Any help appreciated.

Thanks, that was going to be a further question in the future once I'd determined the question above to think about my other options.

I was considering WC 2 weeks ago and decided not to and my WC draft outscored this team by 34 points over the last 2 gameweeks so it was not the best decision. I'm unsure on whether to WC now or wait until GW12/13

got lacroix myself and very happy to keep. 4.7 ppg with a cs ratio of "only" 1 in 3 and he still hasn't scored yet (should've done vs west ham but yeah). got the assist ofc

so maybe biased but if had to, A and C

Thanks, yeah he has the best fixture this week and best DC contributions of the 3. I feel that Cucurella has been very unlucky not to get more attacking returns lately with the positions he's been getting in. Tough fixture this week but good for the next two if I need to keep until WC12/13. Porro has the worst fixtures so I'm probably leaning towards him the most as it stands.

could be the start a run for cunha, seemed like he had put alot of pressure on himself to get the first goal and now that weight off the shoulders

love seeing his defensive work against brighton, clearly taken onboard amorim's comments/criticism and reacted in the right way

but if im being honest, would just get mbeumo first, add cunha later if you want. mbeumo is just too advanced and playing on the last man for cunha to able to match mbeumo's output imo

Mbeumo seems to be all the rage - just like Enzo last gw, but probably more justified. So yes, I'll try to get him in but is it worth a hit this GW? Also have JP as an issue. Looking at following alternatives

    A) JP + Reindeer -> Isidor + Mbeumo - 4pts
    B) JP + Kudus -> Welbeck/Thiago + Mbeumo -4pts
    C) JP ->
    1) Welbeck
    2) Thiago
    3) Woltemade

In case of B, I would have to swap Kudus or Enzo to Mbeumo next GW to afford Mbeumo, and keeping Reindeer , which is not ideal.
Which option , opinions appreciated !

Think I'd swap places on Krecji and Senesi

I really could do with some help.

Gyokores, Joao Pedro, Van de Ven, Diouf

                =>

                Thiago, Mateta, Calafiori, Timber

                4 point hit

                Thoughts on the above pls?

A hit is not necessary, delay one of the transfers to the following GW

I was thinking similar about delaying one of the defensive transfers but I think Arsenal defence has so much potential at both sides that it could pay back immediately

You also need to look at the POV that the defenders being sold could get returns/defcon making it difficult for the hit to pay off immediately.

If the person doesn't have any spare FTs down the line then taking a hit now gives more time for it pay off.

Yeah agreed. I just think in this position I’d be spewing if I got the choice wrong. I know if I chose Timber, Caliaflori hauls and vice versa. I’d almost take the hit just to avoid the disappointment 😆

                B) Roll transfer

                Vicario
                Gabriel, Lacroix, Porro
                Saka, Semenyo, Sarr, Reijnders
                Gyokeres, Haaland, Mateta

                (Dubravka, Anthony, Senesi, Gudmundsson)

                Which is the best option:

                A) Gordon to Mbuemo (have Woltemade)
                B) Pedro to Mateta (have Sarr)
                C) Both for -4

                Who to sell for Mbuemo?

                A) Reijnders
                B) Gordon
                C) Grealish

Have 2ft, so could sell two of the above

Hi all, not sure who to bench this week. Stupidly transferred out Lacroix for Chaloboah last week now want him back lol think I’ll save my FT this week to make me feel better.

                Raya
                Rodon Reinildo Gabriel
                Semenyo Mbeumo Gordon Saka
                Mateta Pedro Haaland

                Dubravka Sensei Chaloboah King

Expensive bench I know, any help would be great thanks
