Fabregas Set To Miss Out Against Birmingham

Arsene Wenger has all but ruled out Cesc Fabregas for Saturday’s Emirates clash with Birmingham.

In his usual Thursday afternoon update Wenger stated that match fitness was a concern with his skipper stating…

“Cesc is very, very short and unlikely to be involved [on Saturday]. He has a little chance for Tuesday.”

The news will come as a major blow to Fantasy Managers who will have preparing their squads for the return of the Gunners playmaker ahead of Gameweek 7. Fabregas is currently riding high in our Captain poll with 24% of the vote.

Given that Fabregas will now likely make a Premier League return against City at Eastlands in Gameweek 9, it now looks as though we will be afforded a couple of weeks of breathing space to muster the funds required to bring in the inspirational Spaniard. That will be little consolation to those who have already made the move, or played their wildcards this week to manufacture the transfer.

Samir Nasri – in strong form and possibly deployed up in support of the lone striker, now looks a lot good prospect against Birmingham. Crucially Nasri started on the bench in Tuesday’s Euro Qualifier with Luxembourg, only appearing on 63 minutes.

In other news from the Emirates, Wenger confirmed that Nicklas Bendtner will make a return to the squad – a development that immediately puts Marouane Chamakh under threat as a Fantasy prospect. Bendtner is likely to start life on the bench against Birmingham but clearly will be a factor from this point on. Wenger had this to say on Bendtner’s return…

“Apart from the fact he went to the World Cup we have not seen the real Nicklas Bendtner for a long, long time. He is the closest he has been to his best for a while. He was really, really handicapped by groin problems but they have gone now.”

Theo Walcott could also figure; he is set to be assessed following Friday’s training session. Kieran Gibbs is available and could start with Gael Clichy rested with Tuesday’s Champions League tie in mind.
Thomas Vermaelen and Bacary Sagna remained sidelined and Wenger has cast doubt on their return against City…

“Sagna is ten days, Vermaelen is ten days”

Manuel Almunia will likely be in contention for the City game while Robin Van Persie remains “a bit longer” away from a return. We’re all too familiar with that particular prognosis when it comes to Van Persie.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

it's still super early and we still haven't lost despite all the away draws. still have grabbed max points at home, so keep the faith- we always turn it on and improve throughout the season while others start to stumble later on.

Van Persie is out for another 8 weeks apparently.

I tell you why Cesc is not fit, the idiot manager allowed him to go on holiday last week when he should have been busting his nuts getting ready.

Yeah, I don't understand that move at all either. Rooney has no form at all and is in Sir Alex's bad books.

Why blow £11.4m on him in the hope that he might suddenly recapture the form that has eluded him for over 6 months now?

He's played enough games in that time to show you that he has nothing to offer right now.

At the moment he's more likely to miss a penalty, get himself booked and end up on minus points than he is to deliver a big score.

Elmander is half as expensive, in the form of his life and already shown he can score against the big boys, yet people are still chasing the player twice as expensive and, on current form, not even half as good!

        Go figure?

If you are lagging a bit and need a high potential diff then getting in Rooney could work out well. Man Utd's fixtures are pretty nice, yes Rooney has been poor this season but a player of his quality has the potential to score big FPL wise. It's risky given his apparent attitude and his current form, however I believe it could be worth the risk, if I could afford him I would get him.

Would you have Toure in defence if it meant doing 2 transfers over the next 2 weeks to get Fabs in, instead of a simple Bale > Fabs?

    It would mean
    Toure > Simpson
    Bale > Fabregas

The risk of course is that I may need another transfer if/when a player of mine gets injured.

With Fabregas out, my WC team is now in limbo. Wenger said he MIGHT be ready for Tuesday, which basically means he WON'T play on Saturday at all. I can't afford to leave him on my bench, so... changes!

I want Fabregas back for GW10 ideally, and I have 16.2 for a Mid and Def. Plan to save my transfer next week, so I have two frees to get Fabs back in for GW10. So, for the next two weeks, who will score best?

    My original combo:

    My team:

    Foster, Krul

    Samba, Elmohamady, Alcaraz, Coleman, Jara

Fabregas, Malouda, Nani, Van Der Vaart, Albrighton

    Drogba, Tevez, Carroll

Possible transfers (all free because I'm on WC):

Gerrard, Coleman (means I can upgrade to Fabregas in one and gives me another transfer for later)
    Arteta, Cole
    Nasri, Cole

    Thoughts?

I'm currently leaning towards Arteta, Cole.

Can't argue with that really RBJ looks good - Only Evra sucks a bit for me for value but Utd fixtures are good and you can downgrade him to Kolarov when fixtures stiffen. Who are your keepers you decided on 'in the end - I'm going the Carson/Krul combo for the foreseeable future on as they rotate well at a Lidl price.

i just got a premonition of ashley yound scoring against chelsea! maybe instead of nasri! eeek! 🙂

Fixtures are OK but I'm just not sure on Al habsi and if his place is secure. Krul/Carson will do me for 2 months I think then change Krul to someone.
                  A. Young is a player I love and I have always had him during a season but I'm trying to stay clear at the moment though.3-2 Villa will do me.

Can see where you're coming from, but only five midfielders have scored more points and he's averaging 5 a game.

I think it's the 10 points he leaves out there each time that annoys everyone.

pool will score at home, even if they're getting thrashed they'll push and try to attack- gotta love them for that. city is way too unstable and unpredictable for me at the moment to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I had suspicions you'd brought Fabregas in over your wishful thinking that he'll go up .1 in value 🙂

I'd probably stick and hope he doesn't drop in value... I had an incline he either wouldn't play or would play only 30 minutes max, because that's what Wenger does. If one of his players sneeze twice they're benched the following game as a precaution.
