The ScoutCast – Episode 40 – The Two Of Us

That’s 40 down, just 255 to go before we beat that “Last of the Summer Wine” episode target. We’re only 7 behind on jokes though – the 213 mentions of wrinkled stockings only count once.

Fresh from the international break, Mark and I leave Andy and Akers behind to sneak back into the studio, only to find that someone has pilfered out podcasting furniture. Improvising with some handy white goods, the show goes on to bring you the usual array of regulars that inludes another “Miffed” from my good self, a bandwagon round-up in “All Aboard” and of course the “Weekend Preview” in which we desperately try to snuggle up to Mark Lawrenson high up on the pundit prediction fence.

Help yourself to this aural treat via this link and explore the other 39 episodes right here.

Alternatively you can stream the goodness direct using the player below.

Editors NoteThis podcast mentions both Man City’s Kolarov and Arsenal’s Fabregas before we got today’s news. Sadly we failed to find our crystal ball and our time machine was on the blink.

    I'm struggling with my defence

    Foster (Gilks)
    O’Shea, (Gohouri), Elmo, Jara, (Simpson)

0.3m in the bank, but really want to keep some cash

    Considering Boateng instead of O’Shea

In the same line of thought, considering giving Torres 1 last change. He ruined my season when I captained him last week and I was determined to get rid. Medium term he is going to be sold to make money for Fabs but with Fabs still out everything changes.

Strangley enough at 6.6% ownership he's actualy become a differential. Only thing is there is a very good reason his ownerships is that low.

    Hahne (Foster)
Elmo / Craddock / Jones / Alcaraz (Carr)
Petrov / Malouda / Bale (Fabs / Ferguson)
    Drogs / Carroll / Tevez
    .4mil in the bank

Not sure what change to do for this week? Def getting rid of Craddock next week. Don't know if it's worth Fabs -> Nani? Any advice?

    Jussi
    Alex Konchesky Jones
    Bale Dempsey Malouda Nani (c)
    Drogba Torres Carroll

    Foster, N'Zog, Shawcross, Jara.

    What d'ya think?

I might play Shawcross over Konchesky with an overdue goal from a set-piece in mind; but he'll come in for you anyway with Alex not playing.

Rest looks fine to me. How long are you going to persist with Torres??

I was planning on downgrading Torres this week and getting Fabs but after the news about Fabs I might aswel keep him. Would be foolish to take him out before Blackburn (H) also so probably won't take him out until the week after, which will be the perfect opportunity to downgrade him and get Fabs in with the cash.

He might grab one or two bonus points for you, but I see it as a 1-1 game.

West Ham are turning their form around in all fairness and they have good upcoming fixtures - points from him maybe steady rather than spectacular.

I think Parker in theory is a good option on/off untill GW16.

The problem is he's 5.4m and if I was gonna shell out that kind of moola I'd probably prefer to have Charlie Adam or Charles N'Zogbia.

Gawd I hate thursday 5-a-side 9.30-10.30pm, no half time and last man back so you dont even get a break by going in nets. They're nearly all older than me as well but I'm still probably the most knackered. Bloody farmers!
Anyway by any miraculous chance did it all turn out to be a bad dream? Has Fabregas reappeared called Wenger a lying mangy looking owl and stated that he is fit well and raring to go?
Failing that are the other minileaguers here to continue the fifa tournament?

See my launch model broke around 6 months ago or so, the f*ckers would only fix it for €190 (I'm in SE of Ireland) and I couldn't find anyone to fix it on the cheap, so I had to take it apart myself to get my brand new MW2 out of it. 🙁

Dont let all this talk of YLOD's put you off by the way - PS3 is still more reliable than Xbox (I own both), plus you don't have to pay for online use.

Yeah I've wanted a PS3 for a while. All my mates have PS3's so I've been the odd one out for ages.

I'm not concerned about ylods. Just need to make sure I can stretch my pennies as far as possible.

I have one free transfer. Was going to use it to bring in fabs (thank god I didn't.

Was thinking of keeping it and having 2 next week, but I have Konchesky and Jags and I'm not sure if they will play. That would leave me Jara and probably minus points.

Any ideas on what to do should I:
A Use transfer - if so who to
B Keep it to have 2 freebies next week

Save it as it's a free way to transfer cash between say Mid and Def without points hits

Looking at Everton, it appears they are turning things around from a poor start to the season. There are 3 guys who stand out in my opinion, being Baines, Cahill and Arteta.
Baines appeals as he is cheaper than the others by at least £1.5 million and with clean sheets, assists and the odd goal plus boni looks a decent shout for VFM.
Arteta is the darling of all bonuses and offers goals (from set pieces aswell),assists and the possibility of captaincy. Seems to be playing in a deeper role and once he finds form will be transferred in en-masse.
Cahill, plays in an advanced position and is more than capable of scoring goals and assisting but comes in dearest at £8.5 million.

Initially, my thoughts are with Baines as the £1.7 million can be spread around my team and I honestly believe he can amass over 150 points whilst Cahill will not be that much over (and is injury ridden) though Arteta is more than capable of 200 points. Any thoughts or feedback?????

Arteta seems the right choice in that his points are consistent but it would leave me with a mid of Nani-VDV-Arshavin (fabs when fit) and Malouda plus Arteta/Cahill. He is a gem but without bonuses this season (which will never change) he would have scored the least points of the 3. My defense is cack and every week its who the hell can i get on the park. Baines would be an obvious choice but does not give the captaincy role neither Arteta or Cahill can...

Yeah you're right that VdV has some tough games in the short term but i still think he's worth considering if you can get him in without a hit.

Big game for Rovers (it's Monday night by the way) just hoping that Dunny is back although not sure exactly where he'd play in the current 4-3-3/4-5-1 set up we've been adopting at Ewood. Maybe Allardyce is simply playing that way because Dunn is out (and we seem to have the personel to pull if off with the Dioufs on either flank), he might revert to playing Dunn just off a lone front man if he's finally fit.

You have a near identical midfield to me. I'm doing Arshavin --> Nani because it just seems too dangerous not having him for the next few weeks (plus a bunch of my league rivals have him). Not sure I'd bother if I didn't have that as a consideration, though.

Heh, our teams are very similar.

        Etherington/Albrighton
        Shawcross/Alex
        Jaask/Hanhemann

To be honest, I'm not that excited by ManUtd's fixtures. Stoke away, Tottenham, Man City and Villa as 4 of their next 6. Not feeling the hype.

Although, I simply hate Arshavin for all the times he let me down last season. Gah, how I need Fabregas!

Fair point, yep. I don't think I'd be bothering if it weren't for my rivals having him. I'm not going all out and captaining him though, I'm fearful of the Drogs (and still hurting from Arshavin + Chamakh (c) when Arsenal played WBA a few weeks ago...).

I'm in a bit of a quandary over that myself - the Fabregas issue just complicates it further. My midfield is
            Nani / Fabregas / VdV / Malouda / Routledge
With my preferred selection being the first four and Routledge on the bench - though it is a bloody tough call this week.
