The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk – It’s About Time

With just five games played out, Saturday satisfaction always looked unlikely. It’s fitting however, that with the big guns yet to be primed, we saw a handful of mid-price players come to the fore and deliver long overdue returns. Fitting and just little bit painful.

Jamie O’Hara started proceedings, blasting a dramatic equaliser to earn Wolves an unlikely point. Full of industry, creativity and threat, O’Hara has been an influential figure, without delivering returns for those brave enough to take a punt. Subject of our recent Members’ Monitor article and, just a couple of gameweek’s later, O’Hara has at last broke his duck. It was coming.

The start of something special? With City up next and three away games in four, it seems unlikely. Even so, O’Hara could yet figure on our radars should McCarthy get Wolves earning victories again.

A few hours later, Sunderland’s Stephane Sessegnon – another mid-price midfielder who has failed to live up to his pre-season billing, earned Steve Bruce three points with a victory at the Reebok.

Ironically, Sessegnon’s first goal of the season coincided with his shift back to the flank, as Bruce paired Connor Wickham and Nicklas Bendtner in his forward line. The Dane later converted a second for the Black Cats; Sessegnon providing the assist and fetching a belated 10-point return for the few thousand Fantasy managers who had kept the faith. Expect bonus points to follow on Monday morning and, with three home games in four to come, suddenly “Sess” is back in the game and blinking bright.

While Sunderland prevailed at Bolton, Yohan Cabaye also fired his first goal of the season to hand North East rivals Newcastle the points. The Frenchman is another Fantasy prospect that’s been touted as overdue returns. Having delivered just a couple of assists thus far, Cabaye gleefully converted to keep the Magpies buoyant and Wigan resigned to the relegation spots.

Unlike Sessegnon, Cabaye’s stock seems unlikely to rise from today’s success. Alan Pardew is now set to steer his happy ship through choppy waters, three away trips in four with Stoke, City and United presenting three of the toughest destinations around. Cabaye’s next significant return could be a good few weeks away.

Is anyone out there feeling smug? Is there really any Fantasy manager with O’Hara, Sessegnon and Cababye tucked away in their lineup? There can’t be many and yet, there will be plenty who have owned at least one of them previously, now pondering what might have been.

Having been threatening to return all season, the trio chose today to get off the mark – a day which seems set to see such modest scoring for many. That only fuels the frustration and makes their late delivery all the more difficult to accept.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Hey Guys I need some advice here

    Krul/Ruddy
    Bosingwa, Taylor (Swansea), Enrique
    Ramsey, Modric, Silva, Petrov
    Persie, Agblonghor, Rooney

This is team for next gameweek, My plans would be this

    1. Next week Petrov out for Sinclair is my plan

Or keep two free transfers and try bring in a big arsenal midfielder for the arsenal game

Or drop bosingwa and Modric next week for Mata & Shawcross keeping 5 million the bank, Or bring in Nani and Shawcross or bring in Van Der Vaart and shawcross

I planned on bring in suarez after a few gameweeks but agblohnhor will score just as much as suarez without a doubt!! So my team seems happy as it is but im not sure how i shud plan gameweek 10 and 11

no such thing as a big arsenal mf these days. Ramsey seems best bet atm- and you have him.
Why get rid of Petrov....nice fixtures.....

I think Modric is not a great fantasy asset..... money to updrade to VDV>?

First time I watched Moses play.... he definitely got involved... but was a bit wasteful at times. Now that Rodallega is back they looked more threatening.... were unlucky to lose.

Im keeping Moses..... but mostly as bench fodder

We are hardly on the up, were only just beat Sunderland, and Marseille (who have only won 2 out of 11 games all season in the league)...hardly a good win.
Of course, I hope we smash them, but i dont see it happening..

I'm still buzzing from yesterday. I got up at 3:30 am to watch the game and had my head in my hands at HT. And to think we could have scrapped the win after Holt's header got denied. But what makes me happy is that people tipped QPR to dominate and Norwich to be 2nd last. It's almost the other way around, we're in contention for a mid-table finish at this rate.

Your boys have been brilliant. I thought it'll be a while until someone would repeat our feat of back to back promotion, it might be cracked in one season! I can't see Southampton stopping yet though, you've got a good spread of players there and it's not like QPR last year where they relied a lot on Taarabt. There's good things to come for Southampton

            Excuse me?

Read all the pre season predictions mate. Norwich were tipped heavily to stay up, us and Swansea were lumped along with Wigan and Blackburn as favourites to go down.

You and Swansea spent money and got your teams together in the off season, we had Dastardly and Muttley (aka Briatore and Ecclestone) slamming shut the purse strings and only allowing Warnock to get crocked free transfer players.

Only Fernandes presence has turned it around and even then we were 3 weeks into the season before we could strengthen our squad. Your boys have had all pre season and 8 games to play together. We've had 5 games as a unit and been decimated by injuries.

Norwich are doing really well and I'm happy for you, but before the season started no-one was tipping QPR to dominate anything.

He never said after the Wolves game either.

I think all 3 promoted teams stand a very good chance of staying up this season. There are enough bad teams in the bottom half of the table for all of us to survive.

Defenders are annoying me so much this season. I've been so careful to pick defenders that rotate - almost all my defenders have a decent home game every time they play, yet they ALWAYS concede. It's getting ridiculous

yeah i had to watch the likes on r taylor s taylor delaet and enrique scoring double figures on my bench while scoring blank when playing.
iv always relied on defenders as differentials coz they steal pts without making the headlines but last season and this one nhn makes sense

There is plenty of time, 64pts can be done in a DGW, you could certainly catch up by Christmas. Depends how well he is playing now.

You can catch that up in 3 gameweeks if you pick right captains, that is not a big lead, there is like 28 gameweeks left including the double gameweeks, 64 points is like a 1 point gap in normal league, absolute minimal, jeeeeezo

5 good defenders + 1 good goal keeper
    3 shiteee bench player + 1
    Good midfielders and forwards

Ok, think I've worked it out (I'm bored this morning, play FM on one screen, doing FF stuff on the other).

So he gets the best backline he can get, then 3 decent strikers and 2 mids.

The theory behind it would be that value/pound is best at defender level, so it would be best to spend you money there and not up front. It ruins you on the captain front though, and you're screwed on defensive rotations (he has Hart, Jones and Kompany today).

I've tried it before and it didn't work. Pushing defensive rotations and getting extra value in midfield has worked out better. (He misses out on the Sinclairs, Petrovs, Larssons etc with his strategy, which give you insane value/pound).

maybe you league is generally poor?

one advantage i tend to have in my mini league is you can always, always guarantee that most players will continually make suspect decisions.

Sometimes they get rewarded but over the season it is these decisions that cost them.

hev been sitting on my bench 90% of the time anw so ill simply keep him, at least he is guaranteed starts and will pick up 2 pts when called upon. if it was last season he wouldv had 10 bps by now

I was going to do RVP to Suarez yesterday and give him the armband.. I thought he would really rack up the points against Norwich... But a few things came up and I forgot to do my transfer.. Lady luck indeed 🙂

Armband is still on RVP and Ive 2 freebies for next week.. 🙂

    Ward is being shipped out..

    worth it?

      Depends:

Can you afford RVP for the following week?
How much game time will Aguero actually get?
How do you see RVP going at CHS?
If you think he will score at CHS, is there any point in getting in another player for him?

I these are the questions you need to be asking yourself. 😕

Possibly. Im looking at it, with a view to getting RVP back in shortly afterwards. (not as crazy as it sounds). Only slight issue is rotation by mankini - very real risk that Aguero wont play or will play 20 mins.

Looks to be another frustrating GW brewing, so that aside lets look to next week.

Team atm, already knee jerked Pilks in before the price rise:

    Vorm,
    Kompany, Enrique, Bosingwa
    Mata, Pilkington, Nani, Silva
    Sturridge, Aguero, Rooney

    Subs: Ruddy, Dyer, Simpson, Gabbon

    Thoughts?
