Watchlist

The Watchlist – Royston Drenthe

With a favourable run of fixtures on the horizon, Everton should see an upturn in the form that has brought them just three points from their last six games. The last few gameweeks has brought one Toffees player in particular into our Fantasy thoughts – Royston Drenthe.

There’s no denying that David Moyes has a real talent on his hands in the shape of the on-loan Dutchman, though it’s mainly been Drenthe’s questionable temperament that has attracted attention in the past. A Carling Cup dismissal aside, Drenthe has so far let his ability do the talking in his short spell at Goodison.

Due to concerns over his initial fitness, Drenthe had been used sparingly by the Everton boss but, after a couple of months of Moyes’ punishing fitness regime, the Dutchman clearly feels that he’s now in good shape:

“Before I started to play, the manager killed me in training. He made me run a lot and now I feel really fit and great. That’s what I wanted, to be sharp. I don’t want not to be fit and then come into a game and not be able to handle the pressure. I feel good now.”

It’s shown in his recent performances, too. Drenthe has played ninety minutes just twice for the Toffees, away at Fulham and Newcastle, but has returned Fantasy points both times- a goal, 2 assists and 3 bonus points at Craven Cottage was followed by an assist last weekend in the 2-1 defeat at Newcastle.

While an enticing run of fixtures (WOL, bol, STO, ars, NOR, SWA) would typically have Fantasy managers eyeing up a move for Leighton Baines, a look at each player’s stats suggest the Dutchman could be the better option. Baines has played 900 minutes and returned 27 points, with just a single goal and no assists, while, despite playing almost a third of Baines’ game time (312 minutes), Drenthe has already scored twice and produced 4 assists for a total of 33 points.

Given that Baines comes in at 7.8 for a defender, while Drenthe is a 6.0 midfielder, the appeal is obvious. Recent games have also seen the pair share free-kick duties, adding another facet to the latter’s Fantasy potential. With Everton sitting in fourth-bottom of the division and the likes of Phil Jagielka recently admitting morale is low at the club, Drenthe could prove the catalyst to spark the Toffees season back into life.

Maybe around Xmas time when my leagues start etc. Don't think me posting will do anything compared to the rest of the posts. A big change has occurred since this time last season & it becomes a turn off to spend much time here.

Easier to spend a few mins on a Saturday & make trades then put the time in everyday doing my site etc. Still playing cricket & did my hamstring quite badly last weekend so not happy about that. Might have to give the bowling up if it doesn't heal the way I want it to.

I thhink his price went down as RVP is attracting interest for those that still don't have him, plus after 2 long-haul internationals it was unlikely Aguero would start vs Newcastle - so an obvious swap there. Injury was just the icing on the cake.

I have been aboard the Bendy bus before and it felt dirty and wrong. He has delusions of grandeur. And he has gone out in public wearing a dress before. Can I afford to have principles and not get him in given their fixtures? Yes I can. Sessegnon will be enough Sunderland cover for me.

Sit on it - Rooney's price isn't going anywhere and Aguero's has just gone down. The injury may be an FPL blessing for Aguero as if he misses the two internationals but is fit for the following week, Mancini might give him a start (which looked unlikely after 2 games for Argentina). Things will probably be clearer at the back end of next week and you can make your decision then.

This is my WC draft. I am planning for a team until the jan WC, so only considering the next 8 games.

    vorm--westwood
    jones--kompany--naylor--brown--rtaylor
    VDV--ramsey--sliva--eagles--drethe
    RVP--bendther--ade

    .7 in bank.
How does this team look? this is not my team yet though. Thanks in advance

Great team, but an earlier post mentioned Kompany getting a knock, and I dont know how set Jones is as others come in the fold, so potential mine field for your 2 expensive defenders. Why not Jose Enrique or Walker (DGW20)?

Anyway you can fit dvd/nani/silva into that mid? Even if you have to downgrade your defence?

At the mo defenders are not keeping CS anyway. What's your teamvalue?

I know, that's when your playing Vorm. Hey, you thinking short term and don't mind spending a trsfr on getting Westwood out again so at that sort of 4-4.5m price you prob won't find a rotating keeper to partner with Vorm.

Wolves/Black maybe? They don't do CS though.

              😀

    All,

    Current team is:

    Krul/Ruddy
    Kompany/Simpson/Enrique/Shawcross/Orr
    Silva/Ramsey/VDV/Dyer/Ferguson
    Rooney/Dzeko/RVP

Was thinking of cheap defender for Shawcross, may be Wilkinson/Robinson/Monk/McAuley/Taylor etc then getting in Drenthe for Ferguson.

Any thoughts welcome on best cheap defender!

Top work Sir P, I just wish now and again that you'd drop the ball, I've been eyeing up getting Drenthe for the last two weeks - now a load of my rivals [who aren't that into footy generally but like FPL] will know about him. Bah.

I dunno to what extent they use FFS, a couple of them definitely do and I suspect more look at the articles judging by their transfers, but whether they read all the comments etc I'm not sure.

I'm thinking the Agbonlahor injury isn't the end of the world actually.
As a long time holder of Aggy (got him at 6.5) I'm thinking it could put off others jumping on the bangwagon and might encourage Wildcarders to get rid and he'll prob only miss the Spurs game which I didn't think he'd get any points in anyway.
