Scout Scribbles- Aguero’s Fit and Ready

Once again twitter brought us some important injury news, with Sergio Aguero confirming that he is fit and available for international duty. Rafael Van der Vaart has used his own website to reveal he is confident of turning out for Spurs next week:

For the second day running, we received some significant injury news via the medium of twitter. Sergio Aguero’s Fantasy owners will be breathing a sigh of relief after the Man City forward used his twitter stream to announce he is “fully recovered” for Argentina’s match with Columbia tomorrow, after missing Friday’s game against Bolivia with a muscle strain.

Rafael Van der Vaart’s official website brought the news that the Dutchman reckons he’s on track to recover from a hamstring strain and face Aston Villa next Monday. The Tottenham talisman’s announcement will be music to the ears of Fantasy managers as he revealed:

It doesn’t feel too bad, feels like a tiny muscle rupture. I hope I’ll be fit soon and expect to play next Monday against Aston Villa.

With nine wins and a draw from their last eleven games, it seems as if Arsenal have turned the corner after a poor start to the season. The new players are gelling, Robin Van Persie is scoring almost every time he takes to the pitch and Arsene Wenger, speaking to Arsenal Player, reckons his side have matured by reining in their attacking nature:

I would say we are a bit more controlled and less cavalier. We are less adventurous when the job is done, I must say. You can feel that there is some reserve there if needed. In the second half against West Brom we just kept it serious without going overboard. Overall I would say it is a more mature attitude. We were more functional. We did the job properly, with quality and, I must say, with seriousness.

Simone Mignolet will be unable to maintain his fitness levels during his time on the sidelines with a fractured nose and eye socket. The Sunderland keeper is expected to be out for around two months but is continuing to suffer from the after effects of the injury, explaining that headaches and nosebleeds are forcing him to rest completely until healed. What’s more frustrating for the Belgian is that the injury has occurred just prior to the Black Cats most favourable run of fixtures so far this season.

Sunderland’s Ji Dong-won was hauled off at half time in South Korea’s 2-0 win over UAE, with his national manager criticising the forward’s fitness levels. Dong-won played eighty-five minutes in his club’s recent defeat at Man United and with Connor Wickham out injured, could be set to partner Nicklas Bendtner up front for Steve Bruce’s side. According to Cho Kwang-Rae, though:

Ji’s condition was really bad. He was not good in training so I considered not to play him and he was worse in the match than I thought. So I had to replace him at half-time. His balance is off and his shooting timing is slow. I think he’s physically really poor now.

Stephen Kelly has been ruled out of the Republic of Ireland’s second leg play-off game against Estonia with a groin problem. Assistant boss Marco Tardelli confirmed his absence after yesterday’s training session. It’s unclear if the injury will keep the right-back out of Fulham’s trip to Sunderland but it’s the last thing Martin Jol needs, with Zdenek Grygera ruled out for around six months with anterior cruciate ligament damage, though Chris Baird has also been utilised in the position this term.

Phil Jagielka has returned to Everton after being given early release from the England camp. The centre half has been bothered with a toe injury for the last few weeks and although he turned out for Fabio Capello’s side against Spain, Jagielka has stressed he is fit and raring to go ahead of next weekend’s home encounter with Wolves:

I’m fit. There is nothing wrong with me other than I’ve got a little broken toe. It’s nothing an injection won’t take care of. Obviously it numbs the toe for a few hours and it will be a little bit sore for a while. There was an agreement with the club that they’d let me play against Spain which was brilliant. It was a small risk but one I was prepared to take. It will take four weeks to mend without playing but double with playing. I’ve got a few more weeks with injections yet. I get paid to play football so if I’ve got to have an injection to do so, it’s simple.

Stuart Holden is happy with his progress from a knee operation as he steps up his rehabilitation. The Bolton midfielder had only just returned from a long-term problem in September when a routine operation hinted at further complications and sidelined him once again. Holden admitted it’s been mentally tough more than anything but feels he has now turned the corner and is positive about his chances of a return.

Swansea’s Neil Taylor missed Wales’ weekend win over Norway with a bruised ankle but should be available for selection next Saturday when the Welsh club play host to Man United. Wales boss Gary Speed explained his decision to omit the player from his side:

He got a knock at Liverpool for Swansea and his ankle was just too sore to play. He was very disappointed but his ankle is black and blue. You can play on it but it doesn’t make it better and you have to look after these players because he has a big game next weekend against Manchester United.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I'm doing ok! Last season i was around 500,000, now i'm in the 300,000's. 73 was a good score last week, especially as i captained Rooney and didn't play Vorm!

Cheers. But i finally gave in to the Rooney -> RvP transfer. I've always chose Rooney over the many years i've played but it seems midfielder Rooney will score at most one now, and RvP seems certain to score every game.

guess it depends if you think 0.6m is worth spending for (potentially) just a few extra attacking points. i do and have the cash so going for walker but can see the cases for both

Would like to see a shots/crosses comparison on Walker / BAE. I was watching Spurs vs Qpr and Ekotto was getting forward quite a lot and even took a freekick which VDV didn't look too pleased about!

It's a close call - I've got walker but have half a mind to get Ekotto too.

I think those stats might not tell the whole story, Walker often gets right to the byline inside the 18 yard box for his cutback crosses whereas Benny is usually hoofing them in from much further out.

    Yay! Aguero you beaut.

    Which is better:

    1. De Laet->Wilkinson (other defenders are Vorm, Ruddy, Brown, Richards, Enrique, Raylor)
    2. Agbonlahor->Bendtner (I have Brown from Sunderland already, Dyer would play this week if Agbon sat out)

    Thanks!

Not the best week to be playing Dyer and you've got a playable defence already so I' think Bongles to Bendtner (n.b. I am pathologically incapable of buying Bendtner) this week is the correct order.

Thanks. Who would I play though?

        Richards, Brown, Enrique

Thought it might be an ideal week to get rid of De Laet and Wilkinson is so tempting!

I think maybe I ought to wait to hear more on Agbonlahor - if he plays then Ill make the defender transfer. Benefit of getting Wilkinson is that he will start for me for the next two weeks, and if I dont get him then I have to play one of Enrique or Raylor in the next two weeks (given that De Laet is dead weight).

Ya, I think I might just go with Wilkinson. I wasnt really expecting too much from Agbon at WHL anyway, so Dyer home to MUN might be equivalent. I see Chelsea scoring against Pool, and De Laet is a complete deadweight who needs to be shipped!

    Hernandez – Welbeck?

Why has no one thought of this, Welbeck gets game time, keeps United attacking coverage and gives over 3 million if swapped for Hernandez and 6 if swapped for Rooney. Not an option for this week, but in a couple of weeks when I have 2 free and want to upgrade to De Gea.

Posted on other article so relieved to see this!!

I am quite prone to knee jerk transfers at times, have always done so and fared quite well over past few seasons in doing so, however nervous for this week. Have done 4 transfers this week (12pt hit) but left with a couple of doubts and trying to avoid RVP which I know is suicide! my team is…

    Begovic (Al Habsi)
    Jones Baines Vermaelen (Wilkinson, Taylor)
    Silva Walters VDV Drenthe (Pilkington)
    Aguero Dzeko Wellbeck

doubts over VDV and Aguero (thankfully has) which may prove to be nothing but rotation risk still there for City guys.

    Who do I captain????

    thanks in advance for advice

Can't see how Adebayor --> Dzeko is worth a hit personally.... but hey, you don't have to justify yourself to anyone on here - you just want advice about your captain - so I'd wait and see Aguero vs VDV.

Newcastle have the joint best defence on the road and Mancini seems to always rotate or take players off, with Europe in mind. Not convinced Aguero will do much FPL points wise this weekend.

I'm going for Rooney instead possibly for GW14 so just hope Anderson is back and Rooney moves back upfront with Hernandez.

Newcastle can wave goodbye to their unbeaten start, they're going to lose by at least 2 goals imo. Agree with Rooney, although he's more a hope than sense for everyone at the moment.

    Hi,

I'm on my WC and still can't decide which big hitters to go for. Can afford one of these, already have RVP,VDV,Silva.

    A) Lampard - i would love to have him, but I heard he's on 4 yellows? Is it true?

    B) Nani - His fpl potential is great, he can score big next games, but will he outscore Rooney?

    C) Rooney - Should I wait till SAF converts him back to striker? Is it likely to happen soon?

    D) Aguero - Again great potential, but he never plays 90 minutes.

    Any suggestions? thanks

This will mean you have four of the highest fpl scoring players from ARS, MCI, MUN and TOT...you need MUN coverage in the longrun and roonpig is your best bet

      a) Lampard - he's on 4 yellows, but if he gets booked vs Wolves he misses the carling cup match. He got 1 yellow card all of last season and even if he does get another 1 soon, it's only 1 match.

That said, I'm going to be looking at rooney for Newcastle at home onwards if he plays unfront vs Swansea.

if u want 1 of the following i would get nani. atm i have silva rvp suarez vdv and ade as my big hitters and contemplating getting nani for vdv to have some MU cover, i think rooney is too much uncertain to rely on these days adn even when not playing in midfield, with chihca alongside him he plays too deep to be an attractive option

    Vorm Krul

Captaining Drenthe when you have the above 4 would be madness.

      I think its more like:

RVP - Even if he plays 70 mins, he's got a good chance of scoring.

VDV - Wait til later in the week, but looks like he may play for 60 mins (often enough)

Rooney - Wait and see if he plays up front then captain vs Newcastle

Aguero - Home to Newcastle -- see RVP analysis above.

RVP will play the full 90
VDV will get 60 minutes imo
      Rooney most likely up front
Aguero at least 80 minutes I reckon

Having said that Drenthe would make for a much more exciting weekend for you, but I learnt enough from captaining Baines earlier this season....don't rely on your Everton player, they're enough of a differential without the armband.

I feel the fantasy tides turning, the cheapy defences are still en vogue, but after respective hidings Man Utd and Chelsea have potentially learned their lesson, and with Vermon back arsenal look a different proposition. Does anyone else see the return of the Big time Defender? Vermon, Vidic, Jones, baines/ Jaggers, David Luiz/terry (after a few tough fixtures) mostly offer some good differential options as well. thoughts on a postcard...

Yep I agree - I'm thinking it's time to downgrade a big hitter up front to upgrade a defender or 2 ... maybe after this week though:

      Aguero --> Bendtner

      S Taylor --> Jones

      Ward --> Vermaelen

yeh I'm thinking Ward -. vermon as well, but I need to wtich my Goalkeeper as well so this week am going to have to do ward -> brown and then next week Enrique to Vermon. I know Luisz has been having a shocker this year, as have chelsea, but hes not had that many games and once the team settles a bit more under AVB and he starting regularly and over his run of tough fixtures, I think he is going to bank some really good fantasy points. So maybe during the enforced wildcard season!

I think it'll require a few cheaper options in attack and midfield to really hit form for people to start bringing in 7mil defenders, whilst the likes of RVP, Aguero, Suarez, Adebayor, Rooney, Nani, Silva, VdV are scoring well it's difficult not to have 5 of them, which necessitates a cheapish defence, particularly with the PPI emphasis on goals.

Thing is that, this year FPL has really overpriced these players-at least Vidic, Baines and Terry are out for me. Personally have a strategy of 3 expensive defenders/keepers, varying with fixtures. Looks like Enrique is the season keeper for me, since he probably wont go down in price.

Some random analysis of Fantasy points.
I was trying to determine which team is the best at each position using the Total Score of all players at that position:

    MU: F 157/2 = 78.5 M 226/4 = 56.5 D 171/4= 42.75 (4-4-2)
    Che: F 93/2= 46.5 M 223/4= 55.75 D 157/4= 39.25 (4-4-2 cos of Mata)
    MC: F 181/2= 90.5 M 286/4= 71.5 D 195/4= 48.75 (4-4-2)
    Tot: F 82/1= 82 M 222/5= 44.4 D 122/4= 30.5 (4-5-1 cos of VDV)
    Ars: F 123/2= 61.5 M 204/4= 51 D 120/4= 30 (4-4-2 cos of Gerv)
    New: F 130/2= 65 M 159/4= 39.75 D 186/4= 46.5 (4-4-2)

    Forwards Rankings:
MC, Tot, MU, New, Ars, Che

    Midfield Rankings:
MC, MU, Che, Ars, Tot, New

    Defense Rankings:
MC, New, MU, Che, Tot, Ars

Pretty random. But thought I'd post it here.

    This GW

    Vorm (Krul)

    Enrique Bos Komp (De laet)

    Silva VDV Sinclair Jarvo Ramsey

    Adeb Aguero (Gervinho)

Now what would you do with this bunch of crap - other than the uncertainty around VDV and Aguero Im thinking outing Bos for say Verm or Brown and taking a 4pt ht on binning Jarvo at last in favour of one from Bale/Walters/Arteta or Drenthe.

    Thoughts much appreciated.

I think it would be a good idea to work out what your standard formation is going to be. If you're benching a player as expensive as Gervinho against Norwich then there's absolutely no point having someone that expensive in that slot.

Hmmm interesting. May sit on Jarvo another week and bench the waster thus avoiding the hit - reluctant (aint doing it) to bench Sinclair - he is on pens and I really fancy the Swans at home irrespective of opposition. I take Stich's point and will play Gerv - there is always the chance the RVP wont play this w/e and then the burden is tx'ed to Gerv - Gerv has points in him in his own right actually. Bos - Brown it is!!

          Sorted 3 - 4 - 3

With the good news on VDV/Kun my team is, once more, looking awesome if a little formulaic...

    Krul - Vorm
    Jones - Walker - Enrique (Simpson - N.Taylor)
Silva - VDV - Ramsey - Walters (Dyer)
    RVP - Aguero - Adebayor

    Yay!!

I have got a bit of money spare but I am quite happy with Dyer as first sub at the moment. If I got someone better then I would have to start getting into rotating them with Ramsey / Walters depending on fixtures. At the moment I hame happy to just pick two mid-priced guys who have a good run of fixtures and play them every week. E.g. in a couple of weeks I might think of switching Walters (e.g. to Sessegnon) when his good fixtures start to dry up.

Decent, although I find the subsequent complaining about Chelsea's goals that day [Tottenham at home] more entertaining. Missed of all that at the time, the cheek of some of the United fans... They have no right to moan about referees after everything they've done for them over the past few years.

It's scary to think that man city owns so many amazing strikers, who if they were in different clubs and played full games, would be very dangerous. Aguero, Dzeko, Balotelli, Tevez and even Adebayor!

He can score in any game, so if you have other problems on your team, fix them first and no need to get rid for a hit. Saying that im a Suarez hater FPL wise: he is converting chances at the same rate as last season. So unless gerrard gets fit and makes it easier for him to score, you are looking at 12-14 goals for a 10 min striker.

One fact that everyone is missing about the Chile game is that Chile was missing 5 players, who were banned for showing up drunk in practice, 4 of them were first choice.

    STOKE TEAM

from their forum - general opinion is they want sorenson in for begovic (would be a steal at 4.3m)

wilko is in the majority of the fans teams

    so is higginbotham.

so potentially you could treble up on 3 stokies for 4.3, 4.5 and 4m!

DVD did have the armband for me this upcoming gameweek but think it'd be brave to do that now given the iffy hamstring. I know he has a good record against Villa and scored well when an injury doubt last year, but lightning not striking twice 'n all.. RVP is the boring choice but looking like a good one all the same.

Will be a bit concerned about RVP and DVD over the Christmas period, you know full well the former will be rested at sme point for sure and I can't see DVD getting through all of those games unscathed either. Suarez stays for me as I think he'll play every game. Rooney will play most too.

same quanrdy... howard or westwood. Howard good run of fixtures, and everton have always been a solid unit, but have kept no clean sheets and howard expensive. Westwood cheap, unproven, great fixtures. toughie, especially as craig gordon nearing return for Sunderland- if it weren't for that I would go all Tim Westwood. As it is, I think i'm going to go for Howard atm. and then get brown in defence.

Yoiur defence defo needs rotation though... all 4 have bad fixtures. would sell hutton and shax as priotity, in that order. the rest can ride out the fixture storm in reserve
