The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk – Double Dilemma

Having failed to notch away from Craven Cottage this calendar year, many a Fantasy managers’ plans for the upcoming double Gameweek 36 had centred around getting rid of Clint Dempsey. This afternoon at the Reebok, the American give us plenty to ponder as a brace ended Bolton’s recent winning run and sent the US international to second behind Robin Van Persie in the overall points rankings.

Prior to today’s display, Dempsey’s notoriously poor away form had produced just three goals, compared to 10 goals and six assists in front of his own fans. With a blank Gameweek 34 on the horizon and trips to Liverpool and Everton in Gameweek 36, the decision to transfer him out made plenty sense; Fulham had scored just eight on the road all season before today, after all. Now, however, many have a dilemma.

Given his current form, those still holding Dempsey will surely look upon Monday evening’s upcoming home clash against Chelsea as another potentially strong opportunity of points. The visit of Wigan in Gameweek 35 affords him the chance of a substantial home haul, with the option of the captain’s armband a definite possibility.

While Gareth Bale and David Silva (without a goal since Gameweek 24 and Gameweek 16 respectively) stumble towards the finish line, Dempsey – handed a role up front in light of Pavel Pogrebnyak’s absence – simply shows no sign of letting up as he forges further ahead of his fellow-midfielders in the Fantasy running.

Transfer plans may now be postponed or ripped up altogether as we look for ways to hold onto the American. That straight swap for Theo Walcott before Arsenal’s trip to Wolves on Wednesday that many had in mind, or the move to Stephane Sessegnon for Sunderland’s home game with the midlanders in Gameweek 34 may never see the light of day now. With form the clear winner over fixtures as the season heats up, can we really afford to run the risk of moving out such a potent source of points?

So you never started in GW7? You started in GW1 and 7 GW's in you reached 685th place?

It's a great position to be in but like I say it's only good at that point. 7 solid GW's followed by 31 shit ones doesn't mean alot.

Lfc may get tighter now Agger is back, but go. I will keep Simpson and shawcross.

    Ongoing discussion from last page:

    Suarez to Cisse or Bendtner?

If I go for Cisse I will only field 10 players in GW34.

If I go for Bendtner I will field 11.

Cisse the form player, you get another transfer before gw 34 to try and field 11.

Are you planning on selling Bendtner after GW34?

Either way, it's a difficult decision. If you don't fancy Bendtner to score against Everton (I sure don't), it's between Cisse vs. Bolton and Bendtner vs. Wolves. With the form Cisse is in, he could easily outscore Bendtner even if Bendtner has two games.

Another factor: If you're planning on selling Bendtner before GW 36, possibly for Cisse, you'll probably have to take a 4 points hit (assuming you're doing other transfers to stack up on DGW players).

I would probably go for Cisse, and just have Sess from Sunderland in GW 34. But I'm sure people will disagree with that choice.

I forgot to ask: This is assuming you'll want to do the transfer now. If you do it as a transfer before GW34 it's a straight 10 vs. 11 question, and I'd probably do it even if you have to take a hit. Wolves is so shit even Bendtner can score.

I don't trust Pulis one iota.

On a non-footballing note, every time I see Pulis' face I see how unfair life can really be when someone such as he gets off a driving ban.

        Stinks.

I've worked out i can have the following without taking any hits :-

    GW34 - 11 available
    GW36 - 5 doubles

I might be tempted to take a 4 point hit for GW36 to bring in another double, maybe Rooney for Cisse. What's everyone elses plan?

Getting in 11 for GW34 earns the extra hit IMO.

I personally think 11 in gw34 will elevate you upthe rankings than loading up with doublers.

Only the Chelsea and Spurs DGW's are of any interest really.

I can have the following available:

      GW34 - 11
GW36 - 7 DGWs (RVP, Caulker, Siggy, Verm being the non DGW contingent)

Cisse has f*cked up this plan!

Kaboul is playing really well just now but I guess BAE has the odd assist in there.

Walker seems a good choice for attacking potential too though.
