The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk – Double Dilemma

Having failed to notch away from Craven Cottage this calendar year, many a Fantasy managers’ plans for the upcoming double Gameweek 36 had centred around getting rid of Clint Dempsey. This afternoon at the Reebok, the American give us plenty to ponder as a brace ended Bolton’s recent winning run and sent the US international to second behind Robin Van Persie in the overall points rankings.

Prior to today’s display, Dempsey’s notoriously poor away form had produced just three goals, compared to 10 goals and six assists in front of his own fans. With a blank Gameweek 34 on the horizon and trips to Liverpool and Everton in Gameweek 36, the decision to transfer him out made plenty sense; Fulham had scored just eight on the road all season before today, after all. Now, however, many have a dilemma.

Given his current form, those still holding Dempsey will surely look upon Monday evening’s upcoming home clash against Chelsea as another potentially strong opportunity of points. The visit of Wigan in Gameweek 35 affords him the chance of a substantial home haul, with the option of the captain’s armband a definite possibility.

While Gareth Bale and David Silva (without a goal since Gameweek 24 and Gameweek 16 respectively) stumble towards the finish line, Dempsey – handed a role up front in light of Pavel Pogrebnyak’s absence – simply shows no sign of letting up as he forges further ahead of his fellow-midfielders in the Fantasy running.

Transfer plans may now be postponed or ripped up altogether as we look for ways to hold onto the American. That straight swap for Theo Walcott before Arsenal’s trip to Wolves on Wednesday that many had in mind, or the move to Stephane Sessegnon for Sunderland’s home game with the midlanders in Gameweek 34 may never see the light of day now. With form the clear winner over fixtures as the season heats up, can we really afford to run the risk of moving out such a potent source of points?

        why not Doos

If he played every week, and City kept a CS you'd likely get 9 points minimum

As it is I will probs do Skrtel to Lescott in 34

Damn, I have zero clue which defenders to bench this week 🙁

Taiwo - can easily score and/or assists against Swansea, QPR are great at home, he's immense at set pieces and even CS is kind of possible
BAE - Spurs likely to grab a 3-1 win, but how could you bench BAE against Norwich at home?
Evans - same story, I can totally see ManUtd conceding one, but is he benchable in this kind of fixture? Probably not
Simpson - now, for Danny you can say with 95% certainty that he won't score or assist, but Newcastle against Bolton is very tasty and Pardew's boys have been shockingly good at the back lately - even with Perch playing!
Cahill - will very likely play 90, a goal threat, but Chelsea likely to concede

So if I go BAE - Evans - Cahill, I'm likely to end up with 2 - 2/6 - 2/8, while Simpson can easily grab 6 and Taiwo can even do double digits 😛

    Opinions?

Swansea kind of falling apart (while they are good away from home, I admit), QPR fighting for their lives, Taiwo already a goal and 3 assists from his arrival to EPL, seems so wrong to bench him at home against Swansea 🙁

Similar problem as decribed above (my post). Simpson and Evans look good, but you just cannot bench Verm or Baines, even if they're most likely to score 2 pt each 😛

BTW Baines is on pens and home, so he must play 100%. Evans and Verm would be the logical picks to go with Leighton, but Simpson can outscore them, just based on CS points.

Same here, I'm totally tempted to bench Evans, but it sounds kind of insane 😀

Now on the positive note, he's very unlikely to do something upfront again, so I see 6 points as the worst scenario, but again - I can totally see Wigan scoring one, they know how to do it at the end of the season, they are in great shape and they score against anyone atm.

I'm worried about the reliability of the ticker these days.

When you set it to attacking and organise GW34 from best attacking fixtures to worst, it's rather insulting that Villa and Norwich are actually ranked worse than the 8 teams with blanks that week 😯

    Dear Mr. Mancini

Can you please give us a guarantee that Mr. A. Kolarov will play v Norwich and Wolves. His haul from those 2 games would be ludicrous

    Signed

    Thoughts on my GW33 team?

    Vorm(qpr)
    Evans(wig), Kompany(WBA), Skrtel(bla)
    Valencia(wig), Bale(NOR), Dempsey(CHE), Siggy(qpr)
    RVP(wol), Rooney(wig), Jelavic(SUN)

    Subs: Sorensen(N/A), Williamson(BOL), Moses(MUN), Kelly(CHE)

Which two would you start out of Skrtel, Williamson and Jelavic?

agree with consensus here mate, Williamson and Jelavic to star.

Am thinking i will ship Skrtel in 34, I won't play him in DGW (will play Baines, Santon and Caulker). So may as well shift him for someone with a fixture in 34, probs Komps or Lescott. Would love Kolarov due to his insane ppg, but he's not nailed on, and you need that in 34.

Alright guys i need a keeper. Already have bogdan and schwarzer..., I'm thinking I'll hold on to bogdan for the DGW b/c he'l get four games in two GW but I need a keeper for GW 34. I'm thinking Vorm on fixtures alone

team set up currently for the upcoming GW?

    Friedel

    Enrique | Evans | Richards
    Bale | Valencia | Siggy | Walcott
    Cisse | RVP(C) | Rooney

SUBS: Bogdan / Caulker / Kelly / Moses

Would have probably captained Cisse but rival captained him this week and that was away at Swansea so he probably will at home to Bolton. So going with RVP as a 'differential' lol to make up ground.

Morning deadzone. What a day eh, I suppose those that slated those who benched Cisse will be eating humble pie at the moment. I'm just grateful I have Surman in my team. In a roundabout way he is earning me points by filling that position on the bench 🙂

Its kind of comical really. I'm sure Moses owners feel the same but going by his form I'd say Surman is the new Moses. Gets regular starts and regular 2 pointers 😀

assuming you have 3 United, 3 Arsenal and 3 Sunderland, best defender for GW34, have 6.5 to spend

has to be Kompany or Lescott right?

Kolarov's PPG is insanely tempting, his lack of nailed-onness is insanely not.

You'd only use the Citeh defender for about 1 or 2 games so you might as well get Kolarov

yes but he may not play in either game, so it defeats the object, in 34 i need whoever I get to play.

I'm selling Skrtel for whoever it is

I will play Baines, Santon and Caulker in 36. If I'm not gonna play him in DGW might as well ship for someone with a fixture that week.
