Dugout Discussion

Monday Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion opens for the concluding fixture of Gameweek 34, which sees 17th placed Wigan Athletic travel down the 3rd placed Arsenal. The team news for the game is in, and the sides line-up as follows…

Arsenal XI: Szczesny, Sagna, Djourou, Vermaelen, Andre Santos, Song, Arteta, Walcott, Rosicky, Benayoun, van Persie.

Wigan XI: Al Habsi, Alcaraz, Caldwell, Figueroa, Boyce, McCarthy, McArthur, Beausejour, Moses, Di Santo, Gomez.

A single change from the side that brushed Wolves aside for the Gunners, as Tomas Rosicky comes in for Aaron Ramsey in midfield.

Despite condemning Manchester United to only their fourth defeat of the season, Shaun Maloney isn’t in the visitors squad. Jordi Gomez replaces the Malaysian born Scot.

The Dugout Discussion chatroom is open and can be accessed right here.

Van Persie seems jaded.May be because he's never played so many matches in a trot.
Is it only me who thinks its wise to transfer him out.
A lot of people here are saying Rooney.Just look at their points return lately.Rooney is underplaying with his potential & ready to create Havoc in last 4 weeks.

      No, I agree.

Only 4 games left so even if he hits a patch of form again the season will be over before it has the chance to catch up to you.

RVP appears to be going in the completely opposite direction to Tevez.

Arsenal are serial bottlers anyway. They always tend to stuff it up at this time of year.

I am tempted by Tevez, but I will not be keeping him and hence I think it may be worth just using on transfer to shift him next week.

Not sure what you're on about, do you actually watch football? RVP played decent against Wigan, but Wigan were just special on the night. Had a great game against Wolves and was MOTM against City before that.

Compare that to Rooney who was getting jeered by his own fans at OT against Villa and was about to get hauled off before he scored, his last kick of the match. Got hauled off early against Wigan after a woeful display and before that only managed a penalty against 10 man QPR.

If anyone, Rooney's looked the more jaded.

        😛
That's the point,Rooney is not playing 90 mins or playing anywhere near his best but returning hell of points, imagine when he's sublime.

Agreed but What's wrong with Rooney future. He is a class. Can tear apart any defense in this world.
RVP had enough of games this year.Saying that, may be I'll keep both.
I want Walcott out & RVP needs to be my Arsenal cover.
But couldn't take my eye off City Vs Wolves fixture.

It's obvious you don't watch football. 2 of his last 3 goals have been penalties.

He's not finishing matches because he's playing sh!te so SAF's been getting the hook out. This should tell you everything you need to know.

I watch a lot of football. But Sometimes it wont work here. You are saying Rooney was worst player of the match, but Fantasy football says he's the best(3 bonus).

Bonus points are quantitative, not qualitative. It tells you little about player performance.

Your argument seems to be that RVP has had enough of football?! while Rooney although he's playing crap, is "due" Why is he due? He's not playing well and his manager sees that. The only thing off-form players are normally due is bench time.

I wouldn't rule it out obviously But if my choice was to keep an okay RVP or an off form Rooney... it just seems a no brainer to me.

Rooney has Everton - poor record against them
City - It's a lottery how that match will go.
                  Swansea home - Nice
Sunderland away - Not so much

I'm keeping both this week, screw the knee jerking.

That's my point dude.It wont work in Fantasy Football.here, statistics counts.
Rooney is due because he has to win BPL.
He's a point to prove for his manager.
He's point to prove against Everton.
                He's to answer City.

ok folks everything in order this week

    De Gea

    Evans, Verm, Kolarov, Santon

    Bale, Dempsey, Siggy (c)

    Cisse (vc), RvP, Rooney

    Mingolet, Caulker, Sess, McClean

Used 1 FT to do Walcott to Dempsey. Think I will carry the other over to DGW.

Hmmmmmmm. You lads have got me thinking. Me and Mrs China Mag were both going to get rid of Rooney for Aguero (me) and Tevez (Mrs China Mag), but now there are plenty on here suggesting keep rooney and get rid of RVP. Didn't see the game last night. Was he really that bad? He can't have been worse than rooney against everton? Should I look to take rooney out of one team, and RVP out of the other? I would probably bench the one that I keep for GW36

Rooney was poor v Villa but still got 2 goals. RvP was poor last night and got nothing, and has 1 pen in 5 games, hardly great form.

How many penalties have man utd won this season compared with arsenal? I guess that's important when both players are not in form. Must be Man Utd by a few, right?

Rooney got nothing against Wigan last week too, only difference is unlike RVP he played dreadful and SAF rightly ended his match 20 minutes early.
And in fairness Villa are probably the one team you want your forwards playing right now, bar Wolves.

if I was chasing a lead then I wouldn't hesitate, I can't see Tevez being rested before the end of the season, and he's Tevez a goal machine when he gets going and he has, Rooney has a Championship to win, Arsenal are safeish and RVP is wrecked and maybe has an eye on the Euros, foot off gas? That's my thinking I wouldn't even get Aguero Tevez is yer-man, Tevez or bust.

Ade? Hhmm, talk about lack of form. I want Bale, but not sure if away vs Qpr is a good bet. I just can't see past Wolves conceding 72goals(18 in last 5 or so home games) this season.

I'm thinking Silva for wolves and then to Balefor the DGW.

Citeh vs Wolv is clouding my judgement. Rooney I want for Swans(h) so if I lose him for Ade in gw 36 I want him back for 37. Getting Ade will only be to limit damage control and to cover potential points from a ML rival.

Clint Dempsey. Not my first choice due to Wigan's form, but other than Bale who I have, he's the only DGW mid I know i want so I figured I'd just get him now. May use my other free to shift RvP to Tevez, and keep hom, using the planned RvP to Ade hit to get in an extra DGW mid and play 3-5-2.

You gotta get players like Kroos, Alonso, Ramires, Higuain. I doubt anyone will be able to get CR and Messi. Best gk /df option for price & value are Neuer, Arbeloa, Adriano, possibly Cahill. I'll be happy enough if I can afford 12

Not sure will have a look but the site seems to be down just like FPL 😐

but RvP looks tired and also doesn't actually look like scoring. As good as Wigan were, Arsenal still had chances, but RvP looked unable to take them.

I also prefered selling Rooney tbh, City's attack just looks to good to ignore. May consider shifting Rooney instead and keeping Tevez for the duration, using the planned hit on Rooney next week to get an extra DGW mid in.

VP's record speaks for itself, let's face it Arsenal were camped in the Wigan half for most of the game and on another night I wouldn't have been surprised to see them put tothe sword. As it is they played out of their skins so no I don't have much doubt that VP will be ingest the double digits. Rooney on the other hand was poor, by his own admission and is playing so deep still. 2 tough fixtures coming also...

I'd disregard what 90% of people here say. The sheep were all about getting Torres about a week ago. Then the talk switched to Yakubu and Aguero last week and now it's Tevez. Everyone was dead cert ditching Rooney from Saturday evening until today.. now it's RVP.

Too many sheep here, you're better off deciding yourself.

No chance. Santon is our first choice (only choice) left back, and after being taken out of the firing line for a couple of games rest, has come back and played well (and kept two clean sheets).

ok folks have 1 FT spare, was gonna carry my extra 1 over to next week and ship RvP or Rooney for a DGW striker and take a 4 point hit to get 1 mid in alongside Baines

    a) stick to the plan

    b) sell RvP to Tevez and take the hit to draft an extra DGW mid in, benchig Carlitos in DGW

    c) Don't take the hit and keep RvP

    d) Don't take the hit and have both Rooney and Tevez up front for the derby.

right now FPL is down anyway, will think about when in work. But yeah I can see Tevez outscoring Rooney over the next 4 weeks, even though I think United will still take the title. City are scoring goals freely. Other than Sunday, United have been grinding out wins.

I would just go into the GW36 with less DGW players. Going on what has happened when the big teams have met this season, there could well be GOALS in the manchester derby. Man City HAVE to win, so will have to attack, and Man utd aren't strong enough defensively to play for a draw.

I think that panic is a good word for it. Everyone is worried that an on form man city (return to early season goals goals goals goals form), with a massive point to prove up against an already relegated (almost) wolves who have conceded 73 goals, could be a massacre. And if their rival has a piece of it, and they don't, it could be a serious game changer.

To me the risk of NOT spending 4 pts to make sure that you have city coverage, far exceeds the risks of taking the hit.

I'll probably be captaining him this week. Oh well, go ahead and do what you want then don't come on saturday and cry like a bunch of babies when he scores. Rant over.

      sorry Udit, but you're wrong.

FPL is (mostly) a weekly game. i play from week to week. if Player A has a few bad few weeks and Player B has a few good weeks then why shouldn't i bring in Player B?

it does not matter who the player is, big names count for nothing in the short lived FPL season.

no one and i mean no one is guaranteed a place in my team "just because.....d'uh!"

With Ba, there was a reason for it - Newcastle have changed their way of play since Cisse came along.
It's not as if there is any reason RVP hasn't produced much lately (to his standard, not anyone elses) so the points will come.

exactly the same situation. they all are.

                Exactly the same? How?
Player A (Ba) hasn't looked like making the returns because he is no longer playing striker.
And to suggest RVP doesn't look like making returns is a bit absurd too, he had one off game against a top form Wigan side who had 10 men behind the ball.

A Chelsea team who are ravaged through injury and playing midweek.
      RVP + early kick-off = points.
And the whole DGW mumbo jumbo coming up, think it's silly to be making transfers not looking at players for the double. The ship has sailed with City strikers IMO

I'm not selling Rvp either Harvard boy. I'm saying it's not to say Kun(or any other City striker's) run or ship might have sailed. Wolves are kek. Big time.

No reason not to get Kun in for Wolves/ManU. Everyone is talking Ade. Ade? He has feckall form, and might not even get 2 games in the DGW. No reason why a City striker cant outscore a DGW striker (Eg Ade) over gw 35/36.

Yes, I was lucky enough to get Kun before he hit form, but the key word is BEFORE..
I got him as a 3 week punt as he played 34 and let me get a GW34 keeper in De Gea. I didn't do it as a 1 week punt instead of someone who has a DGW a week after.

TBH, I trust RDM to watch this game atleast 5 times and take a feather from Wigan's hat. The worrying part about RVP is not his own form but more of the number of chances they created in the second half and the lack of maturity/creativity in that attack. Looks like you double mark Walc and RVP and you've got Arsenal covered. Arteta & Gibbs could still be out - that's a big blow as well.

But hope it works for you.

That's exactly how i read that game too. United/Rooney don't read that way at all. They either play or they sleepwalk (like vs wigan) and I see a resurgence there where Arsenal (+lack of rotation, it has to be said) are on a more predictable downward curve.

It's RVP out for me, more due to his manager than his form. The only question is Rooney's attitude playing Everton. I reckon he'll buck the trend there, just to piss us off.

Do you not understand the concept of players losing form at all?

Its happened to Bale in FPL over the last 9 gw's and Silva for a while longer and when people looked at the diminishing returns of those players and suggested getting rid for players who are hitting form they first got shouted down by others and told class is permanent, form is temporary.

Yes, class is permanent, but form is what earns you FPL points and even the great ones go off the boil and have luck desert them for periods.Holding onto big hitters too long once they go off the boil is what kills FPL teams. Ask Drogba owners last season if you want proof of this.

RVP has 1 goal in something like 6 games. This suggests that the luck he was getting for the first 27 weeks of the season has turned. In that time he's played 2 of the bottom 5 defences in the league and failed to score past either of them.

To suggest that FPL players are knee jerking by suggesting that they will ditch a player whose returns are visibly diminishing and replace him with another proven FPL performer who has been rested all season and has now hit his stride form wise is, frankly, nonsensical.

If you want to hang onto RVP fine, that's your call. But I don't see where you get off criticizing others on here for looking to make what appears to be a reasonable move to make.

Okay, I agree with you, I too held on to Malouda for far too long last season BUT there's a difference, RVP is still playing well, and he's a better player than all those that you mentioned , keeping or selling is ultimately down to the manager agreed, but it seems more than a bit illogical to me, perhaps my comment was a bit extreme but there you go, it's just my opinion because there will undoubtedly be loads of angst on saturday from either party

What's wrong with selling RVP? There are only four weeks left in the season, and at the moment, there are many other options that are better than RVP. The key to this game is to know when to get rid of good players, as much as it is to know when to bring in good players.

It's Van der Vaart after all, Tina.

He needs only 60 mins / game to do enough damage. Btw over the last DGW, he started all 3 games in a week. Tends to step up in away games unlike Bale. More of a goal threat at the moment than Bale (more clinical than Ade).

Agreed. If I bring in Silva, it will be because I decide that there will be goals in the derby, so will play him then. Not worth it for one week, unless you are going to captain him. And I think that tevez or aguero would be a better one week captain punt.
