Dugout Discussion

Monday Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion opens for the concluding fixture of Gameweek 34, which sees 17th placed Wigan Athletic travel down the 3rd placed Arsenal. The team news for the game is in, and the sides line-up as follows…

Arsenal XI: Szczesny, Sagna, Djourou, Vermaelen, Andre Santos, Song, Arteta, Walcott, Rosicky, Benayoun, van Persie.

Wigan XI: Al Habsi, Alcaraz, Caldwell, Figueroa, Boyce, McCarthy, McArthur, Beausejour, Moses, Di Santo, Gomez.

A single change from the side that brushed Wolves aside for the Gunners, as Tomas Rosicky comes in for Aaron Ramsey in midfield.

Despite condemning Manchester United to only their fourth defeat of the season, Shaun Maloney isn’t in the visitors squad. Jordi Gomez replaces the Malaysian born Scot.

The Dugout Discussion chatroom is open and can be accessed right here.

I don't like the look of this week on paper. It seems pretty unpredictable, with fixtures which could easily sway in favor of either team.
Anyways, if you were had to get rid of either valencia or sess for petrov who would it be?

Precisely why everyone's on the City wagon, I guess. Only City are a sure shot to win this week!

I'd go Sess, since Sundy are looking unmotivated at the moment.

To bank on just a single week could lead to terrible disappointment.
Since most of the ties are so equally poised, it gives me even more reason to go Petrov(c). Hopefully he will nick a goal and bonus points from one of the two games.

I can't get myself to draft in a city player, with the dgw round the corner. And since other captain choices, are so unclear this week, I am gonna take a pretty needless risk and captain Petrov.
Btw I haven't got a taste for good flair picks. Wheater was the exception. I am usually the guy with the straightforward transfers which do turn out to be good moves.

Anyways let me know if you decide to wc. Get vdv in your wc, if spurs want to qualify they should play him every game.

Wheater was immense for you! Not sure you realized it, but he's the one main reason you've come all the way through to the QFs.

VDV will definitely be the first Spurs player I'm getting. I know he might not play the whole 90 mins, but he was looking like your best attacking player on the pitch.

Until the back end of last season though, I have generally set up a team and forgot about it.

Always curious to see what my team that got so jammy in 06/07 was (Assume Ronaldo captain for the season).

Just looked on another non fantasy football forum I use, that has a mini league each year.

FPL definitely was in existence 03/04 (and the first post implies that it has been going earlier seasons aswell)

    Repost::

    Vorm – Hilario
    Evans – Richards – BAE – Simpson – Caulker
    Dempsey – Valencia – Sess – Siggy – Ferguson
    Rvp – Cisse – Rooney

    2FT & 4.2m in the bank.

    GW 35: Roo/RvP -> Kun & Ferguson -> Barfa
GW 36: Richards -> DGW defender (Baines?) & Valencia -> Bale for a 4pt hit

Does this make any sense to you lads?

Hard call this week for captain IMO.

Rooney, RVP and Aguero/Tevez all decent shouts but aisde from then its hard to call.

Dempsey would normally be my first choice but with Wigans form im not going to risk it.
Cisse could be a good shout against a Stoke side that have nothing to play for and aren't keeping many cleansheets?
Siggy in his favoured away games against a leaky Bolton side.

I think this week captains will be key as i see some of the favoured player (above) doing what RVP did last night and disappointing.

Meh I had it on Dempsey also till I saw the game yesterday. Shoulda really pick Rooney over RVP after I saw them midweek but I was too dumb to see the big flashing neon signs that said ' Wigan are in great form'. Guess its either Cisse, Siggy or Rooney for me this week.

The wierd thing is I actually thought before the game 2-1 Wigan with a goal from Verm would be my perfect scoreline. Wigan win, Arsenal loose, Verm scores, RVP gets a blank and Sagna concedes. And it all got topped off by me having Verm to score last @ 14/1 😉

I wouldn't really bother bringing in anyone now who doesn't have a DGW. Bringing in a city player now would either be a hugely -ev move or end up costing you -8 (assuming you still plan to take a hit to get in the DGW players you wanted) which is pure madness.

    Surely has to be Sess?!

To Jack Bauer. I'm not sure what year the official FPL game started. But i started playing fantasy football way back in 1992 (I think), which was the first year it appeared in 90 minutes magazine. I seem to remember that was the first fantasy football game in the country.

So I have been playing football for 20 years!!! And only now is my potential being fully realized!! Thanks fantasy football scout!!

This has been a great season for casual players, ghost teams and people who've never heard of Sessegnon. I fell further behind people with Rooney captain, Young, Nani etc this week...Next year I'm just going to play like a gombeen!

This is true. The problem was that last year I had epic success by making aggressive transfers whereas this year they all wen bad...very, very bad...it's called hubris.

Disagree! The more you speculate on players being 'due', chase points and make transfer decisions purely based on what everyone else is doing/saying, the less chance you have of doing well in my opinion.

I still disagee Jafa. I became a paying member this year and the stats have really helped me to asses players' past performance and whether they were lucky/unlucky to score the points they did.

Yeah there are some exceptions (e.g. Valencia's unbelievable key passes:assists ratio) but on the whole you can learn a lot about players' past performance and if they are likely to increase/decrease their input.

Having had a long hard look at the big double week i can only see one solution to my two free transfers

    Chelsea or Tottenham

    1) They desperate to try and get 4th so will be hugely motivated , espcially at home to Newcastle

    2) I prefer them to tottenham as both tottenhams opponents will be desperate , both Blackburn and Bolton will be all out . Plus Tottenham not in form , while Chelsea are flying

While i prefer Chelsea for the gameweek it has to be said they dont have the same fantasy standouts as tottenham , Bale Van Der Vaart and Adebyour are fairly easy picks , chelseas less so.

Maybe Lampard or Mata but they not cheap

I personally think the only argument for chelsea players above spurs is form. However, to me spurs have by far the better fixtures, they dont have the fixture pile up and most importantly they have players that I would want in my fantasy football team. I dont see one viable player from chelsea that you could be certain would even play both games

Ryan Taylor is a championship standard right mid fielder. He was filling in at left back earlier in the season while Santon was settling in.

Now Raylor has returned to his rightful status as utility bench option!

Can't start him ahead of Ben Arfa in his current form ... Santon fairly solid and Simpson has done ok. The fewer changes to the back 4 the better as far as I'm concerned.

Handy player to have around, given that he can play anywhere in midfield or either fullback slot but wouldn't want to rely on him the whole time. Great attitude too, probably a good player to have in the dressing room.
