Euro 2012 – Silva Goal Clarification

With many Fantasy managers still holding the captain armband on Andres Iniesta in the hope of a revision of his contribution for David Silva’s goal last night, we thought we’d bring you an update.

Much debate has surrounded Silva’s goal, after Shay Given parried Iniesta’s shot directly into his path.

We have checked with the support team for McDonald’s Euro 2012 game and they have confirmed that the assist was not given because, in their view, Silva then had to jink several times in order to create his own opportunity before threading it through the legs of three defenders to score.

This, therefore, falls under the last part of their assist rule/ definitions:

No assist is given to a player who creates his own goal scoring opportunity (i.e. solo run/dribble).

The support team have confirmed they have reviewed the matter after receiving numerous e-mails but have clarified that their decision will stand – Iniesta will not get the assist.

It’s a tough one to take for many – Iniesta had 42% of the votes in yesterday’s Captain Poll but at least we now know the decision stands for sure and can start to plan for captaincy alternatives ahead of today’s 5pm deadline.

      He doesn't have to dribble. it says ie. solo run/dribble, so they are just examples.

      He did create his own scoring opprtunity though. I think it makes sense thinking about it.

        If they were consistent it would be fine, but they have allowed other players to have assists when players have done more to create the chance for themselves.

          Yeah you're right. There's definitely no consistency. They should either be lenient with the assists or strict, but it should be consistent.

    I'm just writing to ask why has the Iniesta assist from the Spain and Ireland game last night not added yet?

    It was clearly an assist according to the rules:

    “An attempt, which rebounds from the goal frame, the goalkeeper or a defender, can be considered as an assist, if it leads directly to a goal.”

    Please review and amend this as soon as people may make decisions based on his performance.

      Can u please be consistent and follow the rules that u have created. Please remember your self that u’ve changed the assist rule before the tournament. If someone dribbles now the assists aren’t canceled.

      Very similar team to me....I'm toying with taking out CR7. As I see it my options are CR7 for Gomez or RVP. Leaning towards RVP atm as we get a unlimited transfers for the quater finals I think. Really don't fancy Rooney but will wait and see how England look tonight.

        For, CR7 to Gomez, you need to have money in the bank for a free transfer... Gomez value should have already gone up after his two goals and CR7 will have dropped... Gomez was already 0.5m more than CR7.

        So CR7 to Rooney will be the best FT...

          I actually do have the money to do CR7-Gomez...it's really only the danger of rotation that is putting me off. Rooney is an unknown quantity, and has equal chance of scoring big as RVP and CR7 imo.

    Well for the RVP goal, he dribbled and Sneijder got the assist, Gomez dribbled, Bastian got the assist, Fabregas dribbled too.

    I appreciate the rule: "No assist is given to a player who creates his own goal scoring opportunity (i.e. solo run/dribble)." Silva did feint to create a shooting opportunity, but in that case why was Sneijder credited with the assist for RVP's goal against Germany? That was more of a solo goal than SIlva's. I don't mind the rule, but the inconsistency is very annoying...especially as I took the captaincy off Dzagoev then had CR7, and then Iniesta!!!!!!!

    For all the complainers re the Iniesta assist... do what I did with my ML. We decided to play for fun and use the entrance fees for the new FPL season and our new ML after being unable to log in over the weekend.

    Me being 25pts of the pace in my ML had nothing to do with the decision.

      France create a lot of chances and Benzema has been in good form for his club.

      Given the standard of defences he's up against in the next 2 games it was not unrealistic to expect him to get some joy out of these fixtures. Even Bendtner got a brace.

      No in my opinion.

      Rooney hasn't played a game yet and may well end up being played behind Welbeck like SAF does at Man Utd. Ukraine will be pumped playing at home too.

      Portugal has everything to play for, more so than the Netherlands who need to beat Portugal by at least 2 clear goals and hope the Germany Denmark result goes their way.

      Netherlands defence is pants and CR7 will get chances against us. As a Netherlands fan CR7 would be one of the players I'd definitely say has a chance to get some points in gameday 3.

      Definitely stick with Alba's points. Benzema's goalscoring record for France leaves a lot to be desired.

    Quick question for those doing the Euro Pro game. I have a deadline for sealed bids today at 3pm, does this mean that i can bring in players for todays 2 games and play them today? Effectively gaining extra games by selling people who have already played in matchday 2? Hope that’s not too confusing!?

    Assuming i can bring these players in, which 3 would you take from this lot?
