Watchlist

The Watchlist – James Morrison

With two wins and a draw from a tough opening schedule, Steve Clarke has turned a few heads as the new man in charge at West Brom. The Baggies first three Gameweeks, which saw them welcome Liverpool and Everton to the Hawthorns in addition to a trip to Spurs, had many Fantasy managers reluctant to invest early on but, with just two points dropped, their assets are starting to pick up plenty new suitors:

Mainly, the focus has been on defence. With a couple of clean sheets already in the bag, Fantasy managers have snapped up the likes of Gareth McAuley, Liam Ridgewell and Ben Foster in their numbers as a source of mid-price cover, while the likes of City and United – without a single clean sheet between them – toil to justify their costlier price tags at the back.

James Morrison, however, has flown under the radar. The Baggies midfielder has a mere 1% ownership in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), despite returning a goal, an assist and a couple of bonus points over his opening trio of matches. Currently sitting on 18 points, he’s racked up more than Foster and is only one behind Ridgewell for West Brom, while in terms of midfielders, he’s just a single point worse off than the likes of Santi Cazorla, Marouane Fellaini and Kevin Nolan – all far more popular picks, each with their own bandwagons to boast of.

While consistency of selection has plagued the Baggies forwards, with only Shane Long starting the first three matches, Morrison’s place in Clarke’s midfield currently looks assured. Stationed in “the hole” behind the Irishman, he has played all but nine minutes of the season so far – Long, on the other hand, has been subbed off midway through the second-half in all three matches as Clarke freshens up his attack late on.

Priced at 6.0 in FPL and 6.4 in the Sky Sports game, the Scot looks a real mid-price differential to consider over the next few Gameweeks. With Clarke’s in-form side welcoming (RG, QPR, SOT) to the Hawthorns in the next eight and with trips to (ful, avl, wig) also on the agenda, his propensity to pick up the points could well appeal to those Fantasy managers looking for something different from the template midfields currently doing the rounds on site.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I am WC'ing, and I am having an internal debate about my defense. Would it be totally nutty to go for a 24.0 backline (like a 5/5/5/4.5/4.5 or something like that) of mid-table defenders and rotating them? I have usually went for the traditional heavy hitter offset by a 4.0 or two. However, I am trying to fit a couple of pieces in (RVP, etc.) that gobble up a lot of monies. Would this be jack-assed dumb to go this way?

similar to what i'm looking at, would be great if someone could post that link to budget rotation defenders. atm i've gone with jenkinson, baines, mcauley, reid, rafael and clarke but i'm sure there's a better batch that rotate well. it does feel like cleanies are harder to come by or at least predict at the moment whereas funds in mid and up top could be better spent.

Well, that's the right track, but (IMO) one or two defenders should be 4.0 starters for their teams or even a starter who went down to 3.9. Also, there will be one or two Def who cost over 6.5 who are well worth it. But you sometimes have to wait to build value and get them in December, when unfortunately some mid or forward gets injured and you cash in on his value. What we all need is a 4.0 GK who starts but we don't have one...yet. Just my take on it

After about 5 hours of tinkering, I am finally settled on my first draft for the UCL fantasy game... Inviting your suggestions...

    Abbiati (Mannone)
Evra Gibbs Joao Perriera (Maicon Lustig)
    Hazard Busquets Shirokov Khedira (Alan)
    Ibra Messi CR7

Midfield looks weak, but I am hoping for a lot of Recovered Balls points from Busquets and Khedira and they sometimes score goals too...

Once you substitute out a player after the first set of matches for a player playing on the 2nd day, you don't reap the benefits of double points from both players.

The player substituted out will score 0 points.

        Utterly pointless.
