Fantasy Champions League Now Open

As many of you have already noticed, the official UEFA Champions League Fantasy game is now up and running. With Matchday 1 still 10 days away, the current break in domestic action gives us the perfect excuse to start assessing the fixtures and assembling our 15-man squads before the big kick-off:

Matchday 1 gets underway on Tuesday September 18 and the first night’s action hands City a trip to the Bernabeu to face Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid, while Arsenal are also on the travels, with Olivier Giroud returning to face his previous employers, Montpellier. Chelsea get their defence up and running the following evening with a home clash against Juventus, while United welcome Galatasaray to Old Trafford.

Once again, we shall be offering coverage across the Matchdays for those in the community who plan on participating. At the moment, we’re also considering the possibility of running with another Champions League game in conjunction but for now, here’s the official Scout League code for the UEFA Fantasy game:

    Boateng was taking a lot of shots and generally being selfish in the last game. While he was wasteful, it suggests fantasy potential.
    
    There are cheap options in defence but so far there have been injuries so I'm not quite sure on who will start. Without Silva the clean sheet potential isn't great anyway.
    
    Currently, I have my man in midfield and SES. This is subject to change.

      Thanks for your thoughts, yeah I'm not a fan of the Milan defence and Nocerino seems a bit pricey this season. Pazzini is tempting but those striker spots are precious and I fancy Boateng to get in amongst your team's attacking points- I'm thinking him for exactly what you say- selfish and loads of shots. At least this game doesn't punish for shots off target!

        In the last game it looked like Boateng was trying to step up in responsibility in the team and make things happen. It wasn't particularly successful but the intent was there.

        Difficult to say at the moment. For the past 2 seasons Abate has been nailed on. He's injured at the moment and De Sciglio has looked decent filling in. I think De Sciglio is being integrated into the senior squad so we could see some rotation at RB. I don't actually know how long Abate is out for but this will be key as to whether De Sciglio is a good pick or not.

  Can you please explain to me the new substitution rule for the CL? Yesterday you implied that by picking players playing on different days, you can sub in bench players and basically benefit from points on the bench in addition to points already scored during the first day.
  
  But on the site, it states this:
  
  "Players who are substituted out will score 0 points, the captain bonus will be lost from your original captain if a new captain is selected. Substitutions and captain changes can't be cancelled once confirmed."
  
  So what's the point? The players you sub out will get 0 points.

    It basically means you play all your players who are playing on the tuesday and, so long as they don't get red carded, you can replace those with crappy points or not many points with your players from wednesday. If your player only has 1 or 2 points you'd sub them for players who haven't played yet. You're only risking losing 1 or 2 points.

      Marouannie's explanation is pretty spot on. The same thing applies for captain changes. If your Tuesday captain didn't return much, you can just switch captains to someone else playing on Wednesday (benched or not benched).

    Substitutions, however, are the key to success. The international competitions are structured around “matchdays,” and managers can actually replace players who have already played with players who have yet to play – as long as it’s part of the same “matchday.” For example, if Cristiano Ronaldo only scores 4 points in his first group game and you have Ashley Young on your bench, who happens to play the next day in his first group game – you can bring in Young for Ronaldo and “roll the dice” that Young will equal or better CRon’s 4 points. It’s a gamble, of course, but active management of substitutions is often rewarded when it comes to international fantasy football management.

I'm really hoping NZogbia can actually do something vs Swansea.

He's by far my weakest link in mid/att but they have some nice fixtures until I use my WC so be nice to at least be able to give him a few more games until I ship him out.

Not sure doing Zog > Dyer and having all 3 of Dyer, Michu, Graham would be a great move.

Is anyone playing the UCL game using Chrome? If so, how do you swap your players/bench? It just doesn't seem to work. If I try to drag a forward to replace a def the def goes on the bench but the forward stays roughly in the defs place on the "pitch". If I try to save those changes nothing happens.

        If you're changing formation, swapping a def for a mid for instance, you have to change the formation first. Above the goalkeeper.

Sorry for the long post but I am trying to be helpful.
As I started getting shakes from not having any FPL this weekend, did some UCL research, enjoy.
UCL budget options, these are only preliminary shallow notes based on this season stats, so sample sizes may are a bit small. But this could still be helpful. I did not pay too much attention on defenders as I feel good defenders are a must in this format. The players named here should be nailed on as they have played the majority of the games held so far. If I got something wrong let me know.

Boateng-has taken most shots on goal this season and very attacking
Piazzini- takes pens, differ

Arsenal- Gibbs 4.5 very cheap and should be nailed on

Chelsea- Lamps 7 mil might miss some games but takes pens and is a solid option otherwise

Bayern Munich-
Manducic- only 8.5 mil is a steal until Mario Gomez is out.

Cluj
Cadu, pens cheap price 4 mil

Bate Borisov
Renan Bressan CAM- pen taker 4.5 mil

Nordsielland
Stockholm CM- pen taker 4.5 mil

Porto-
Jackson Martinez forward- pen taker 6.0

Shalke-
Uchida- 4mil cheap defender, started all games this season

Shaktar-
Henrick Mkhitarjan 11 goals 4 ast in 8 games this season( crazy stats) only 5.5 mil

Spartack moskva-
Kombarov top scorer this season 3 out of 6( possible pen taker, taken only 1 this season, but many took pens last season) 5mil

Dinamo Zagreb
Vida, Sammir- pen taker and top scorer 5 mil

Galatasaray-
Umut Bulut 5mil- top scorer this season, felipe melo- could take pens 5mil

Juventus-
Lichtensteiner super cheap 4.5 and should be nailed on defender in a top team and Vidal pen taker and very OOP

Lille
Pen taker- Payet

Manchester United-
Ryan Giggs 6 mil- gut feeling he is going to play most UCL games(like last season) and put up nice stats
Rafael, with no fit RBs in sight he is bound to get games in UCL too. 5mil

Montepellier-
Belhanda- pen taker 6mil
herrera- top scorer so far 5.5

Malaga
4mil defenders- Demichelis, Welington

Olympiacos-
Holebas could take penalties has taken half this season took many last season too and is a cheap 4mil defender

braga-
Michel top scorer this season 4.5

Benfica
Rodrigo is top scorer so far 5.5

    Tonel not so much having only started 3 games for Zagreb this season.

  I did quite a bit of research last night and so nice to see familiar names in there. It's a bit dominated by pen takers though, penalties won't be very common and so I'd only like to see it as a bonus to something else.

      Yeah no Rafael is a more offensive player but Valencia can play there - I know Butner is there now but he's nothing special and I don't see Fergie taking as many risks in the CL this year.

        I have no clue what Sir Alex will do and wont try to do guess :), but I will go Rafa over Evra in my team as Evra is old and could be saved for PL games. I think Buttner will match up better with CL opponents, but I could be very wrong 😀

  I don't really know. Haven't put much thought into it since last week, just have the risers in at the moment. Baines is the only definite pick, Boyce will probably be in. Other than that, Rafael, McAuley/Ridgewell, Saylor, Cuellar, Davies and Gorkss are all in contention.
