The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk – Everybody Hurts

It didn’t take long. As the template squad took shape over the international break, it has taken just one day of Gameweek 4 for it to show cracks.

The script seemed very unlikely. Robin Van Persie rested. Carlos Tevez withdrawn on the hour mark. Eden Hazard and Michu traveling home empty-handed. Santi Cazorla delivering just a single assist amongst an Emirates goal glut. Form was on their side but today’s failure of fancied “big guns” offered a rapid reminder just how fickle Fantasy fortunes can be.

To compound matters, some notable differentials stepped up. Dimitar Berbatov delivered on his full debut. Steven Fletcher scored his third goal in two games. Gervinho tempted us with a brace as the Gunners ran riot and, in the same match, Lukas Podolski notched his second in consecutive matches. We just need the likes of Gareth Bale and Nikaca Jelavic to break the shackles and we’ll have real movement; real discontent amongst the pack who threw Wildcards at the two-week break only to find the humblest of returns at the end of the rainbow.

It was inevitable that the cast would be extended, that we’d have new names to add to our watchlists and edge their way into our thinking. The failure for the early season form players will doubtless spark reaction – the pace of Berbatov’s bandwagon will be interesting and likely to be fuelled by those looking for an immediate fix to a hugely disappointing day.

Of course there should be faith that class will win through, that today’s events will be a rarity, but the timing is poor. Having procrastinated and tinkered over the break, the expectations were high and that will doubtless find knees jerking and cats kicked. For the majority, it’s been a day to forget but then perhaps we got what we deserved.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Not much better here but this is the best sort of week to have a horror show. I've a rival who did much better in overall rank this week but only got 16 more points. One lucky captain choice in any one of the next 34 weeks and that's negated. A real horror show is when people are hitting 60/70/80 and you're stuck on 30.

Foster's price is going to rise tonight/tomorrow. Brad will be dropped sooner rather than later. I have a £4m sub keeper.

I have also considered Howard (but I have Baines), Sczezny (don't trust him to play every game), Jussi (fixtures soon take a turn for the worse.

Garcia has competition from Barry, Yaya, Rodwell, de Jong (or did City sell him?). Not in any way nailed on.

Kaca is decent for his price, doubt he'll play every game though.

You would expect Given to get his place back at some point, even though he's a bit past it now (and wasn't all that great anyway.)

Cesar plays in goal for QPR, not sure why you'd want him.

Watching Match of the Day right now and crying into my beer. WHY?!!!!

On a serious note most of us have had 3 above average gameweeks and this is the first test.

The "template team" hasn't been blown apart by 1 GW. The same way that 1 GW cannot set up a template.

Yeah my knee-jerking window has passed. Was briefly considering a staggered multi-week Tevez+Michu switch to Berbatov+Silva (don't ask).

Now I think I'm either going to hold the FT or do rotation risk Routledge to one of McClean or Morrison, much more sensible.

Your cheap mid needs to be a guaranteed starter. Sterling might give you the odd impressive return but sods law says he doesn't play the week you need him to get auto subbed in....

    Mignolet (Ruddy)
    Ivanovic Vermaelen Rangel Reid (Barnett)
    Yaya Michu Nolan Walters (Puncheon)
    RVP Tevez (Pogrebnyak)

Another "which one to bench" query...

    Baines (swa)
    Ridgewell (RDG)
    Boyce (FUL)
    Pienaar (swa)
    Dyer (EVE)

    Thanks 🙂

He went off injured last game, didn't think it was too serious but he must've not been fit. He's too versatile not to have on the bench if fit.

Same here, City aren't keeping cleanies anyway. I did watch City's first 2 games, though, and he was playing very attacking - could have had a couple of assists in the first game and hit the bar in the second.
