The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk – Everybody Hurts

It didn’t take long. As the template squad took shape over the international break, it has taken just one day of Gameweek 4 for it to show cracks.

The script seemed very unlikely. Robin Van Persie rested. Carlos Tevez withdrawn on the hour mark. Eden Hazard and Michu traveling home empty-handed. Santi Cazorla delivering just a single assist amongst an Emirates goal glut. Form was on their side but today’s failure of fancied “big guns” offered a rapid reminder just how fickle Fantasy fortunes can be.

To compound matters, some notable differentials stepped up. Dimitar Berbatov delivered on his full debut. Steven Fletcher scored his third goal in two games. Gervinho tempted us with a brace as the Gunners ran riot and, in the same match, Lukas Podolski notched his second in consecutive matches. We just need the likes of Gareth Bale and Nikaca Jelavic to break the shackles and we’ll have real movement; real discontent amongst the pack who threw Wildcards at the two-week break only to find the humblest of returns at the end of the rainbow.

It was inevitable that the cast would be extended, that we’d have new names to add to our watchlists and edge their way into our thinking. The failure for the early season form players will doubtless spark reaction – the pace of Berbatov’s bandwagon will be interesting and likely to be fuelled by those looking for an immediate fix to a hugely disappointing day.

Of course there should be faith that class will win through, that today’s events will be a rarity, but the timing is poor. Having procrastinated and tinkered over the break, the expectations were high and that will doubtless find knees jerking and cats kicked. For the majority, it’s been a day to forget but then perhaps we got what we deserved.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Who do you think are the 3 players to watch out for next week?

Don't give me the obvious guys...players that you have in mind to do well regardless of whether you own them or not.

Already have HBA for next week...can't get Bale in without a 4 point hit (and I don't fancy it!)
Baines I could get in for a 4 point hit but I don't think it's a pressing issue.

I suppose, but the cracks showed in the Template team this week. It's far too early to have a template and there's going to be a lot of messy re-adjusting if you don't have your WC anymore.

That happens all the time though. That's the game.

Fact was/is, the template team is full of some proven and some likely to prove themselves. Yes, others will make themselves heard but you'll not see wholesale changes anytime soon I'll wager.

Go B. Taking a hit for a defender is rarely smart. He has to get an assist/goal plus a clean sheet to break even. Keep Zabletta, put in a warm body in defense that will get 2, then transfer him out.

Inconsistent. 😉 he is fairly consistent when he plays regularly, which under Pardew he hasn't much until the end of last season and the start of this one.

fletcher & jussi maybe 2days...a guess though, i dont have those players so nbot keeping an eye on them really

Not at all worried about any of those players. WIll take more than one bad showing to make me jerky. Cazorla got his second best returns of the season today. Michu was never gonna keep up that record, Chelsea didnt score and Hazard still looked boss. Tevez is the only concern but at that price can afford to give him a couple of weeks.

Have berbs, none of the other big guns did anything notable so it just means everybody loses, no biggie.

My thoughts exactly. I've not long since wildcarded and I'm still happy with my team. Aguero might be something to seriously consider when he comes back into the mix, and Buttner if he nails down a place. Other than that I'm happy.

I always find it funny when people get upset when someone like Michu doesn't score - were they expecting 38 goals from him this season? 🙂 It's a quiet week for most, if you had the top scoring team this week I expect they'd suck next week - it's just how the game is.

Still fairly happy with my score, couple to play, might get 40ish but overall my team's ok and I'll stick with it. 🙂

        +100

The weight of expectation is so high for some people playing this game. If the man of the moment doesn't score it's like a mini-tragedy. Be happy for the points he gave you the week before and the week before that. Don't moan if the 'unthinkable' happens and he gets a 2 pointer. Games are competed by teams not players for points in FPL.

    Thoughts on this?

DDG & Graham -> Jaask & Berbatov, 4 point hit?

Obviously DDG needs to be rid of & Berba is world class on his day. If i'm gonna do it might aswell catch the rises which I think can be pretty important in the early days of the season!
