Versus – Dimitar Berbatov & Steven Fletcher

Signed in the transfer window, both Steven Fletcher and Dimitar Berbatov have wasted little time in acclimatising at their new clubs, turning the heads of Fantasy managers.

Placed snugly in the mid-price bracket, they both look to offer strong solutions to the third striker slot in our squads with other places reserved for expensive heavy-hitters. In that scenario, many Fantasy managers have been forced to choose from these two players – both take form, decent fixtures and almost identical price tags into the coming months.

In this latest article for our Members, we look beyond the goals and points notched so far, exploring the numbers behind their performances in an attempt to offer a solution to this particular selection dilemma.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

How did Spurs play last night.
I want to bring in Bale for Valencia for a 4 point hit but am unsure about Spurs at the moment.
Is Bale worth the hit for this week?

The problem is Valencia has not repaid my faith with negligent returns. My current team is:
        Friedel
        Hangeland Zab A.Cole
        Hazard Michu Valenica Barfa
        Ba Podolski Tevez
        Subs: Fed, Clyne Cuellar Guthrie

Not much love for my plan to rotate beba and maloney on here last night. How about in my spiritual home in the deadzone? If I get berba for GW8, to rotate with Maloney (switch to lallana or ramirez in GW14) I can have the following run of fixtures.

AVL, WHM, EVE, WBA, SUN, RDG, NOR, TOT, RDG, qpr, SUN, SOT, SWA

I like the idea of berba, but just wouldn't trust his (and fulham's) away form.

I don't have RVP so have a little extra to play with, so don't mind benching a 7.5m forward.

The jury's still out on Fulham with Berbatov as far as away form goes. Could be a decent move and you could always play Berba away if they do shake off the away blues.

I also dont trust Fulham away. And this season without both Dembele and Demp I can really see them struggling. So for this reason I dont think I'll be jumping on the Berba bus.

As for your plan to rotate those 2- I wouldnt either. I have Guthrie because he's basically a poor player playing for a poor team. No headaches for me and more than likely not many lost points sat on the bench every week

That works too. And the beauty of rotating two attacking players who you are both happy to play, is that you can play the other one in place of one of your other ones, when he has a sweet away fixture

Currently on my WC and have largely selected my team bar a couple of spots. Could I please get some advice on which option to chose from

    Current WC team (Option A)

    Begovic, Foster
    Baines, Demel, Davies Gibbs*, Nelson*
    Hazard, Cazorla, Pienaar, Michu, Sterling*
    RVP, Tevez, Berbatov*

    Option B) Nelson + Berb ----> Gallas + Lambert
This enables me to not worry about my weak 3rd defender and have a Gallas who appears to have nailed down the CB spot as a result of Kabouls injury. Spurs defensive stats are one of the best and at 5m he is a bargain. Lambert is at the start of a brilliant run of fixtures which could be a better bet than trusting Fulhams dodgy away ability.

    Option C) Gibbs + Nelson ----> Clark + Ridgwell(selling for Sagna in 3 weeks)
This helps me avoid Arsenals dodgy next few fixtures while cashing in on Sagna when he returns and WBA's prime fixtures over the next 3 weeks. Doubling up on WBA defence against RDG & QPR could prove genius. It also means I can get a more nailed on defender than Nelson such as Clark who also provides a nice attacking threat. It also means I keep Berbatov.

If it was me, I would get jaask instead of foster and use the money saved to either a) get wilson or cameron instead of one of your 4m defenders (i love the stk/whm rotation, so have no problem with hte double up), or upgrade sterling to maloney, and rotate with berba!

      But that's just me!!

TW. Ba has been complaining about being stuck out on the left. But has actually been through the middle for most of this season. I reckon its all about money, as he is trying to renegotiate a new contract, and we are not willing to pay over the odds for someone with a dodgy knee.

    Hi Guys.

Quick question. I can sub Fellaini for any other midfielder. I have Hazard, Michu, Yaya and Ben Arfa.
Who would you choose if you could? Cazorla, Bale perhaps?

It's for a -4 hit too. But I think I good choice could absorb the points.

Been scratching my head on this one and I would apericiate the advice.

    Thanks in advance.

Why would you want to trade Fellaini out for a hit? He has been playing well, would have scored last week if it were not for a legitimate goal ruled out, and has decent fixtures.

Bale and Cazorla are good options, but both can wait a couple of weeks to get in, especially if its for a hit.

And he had a goal ruled out for being offside when it was fairly evident he was onside. If you think I'm being bias because I'm an Everton supporter you can check virtually any writeup on the game that will suggest that everyone else also thinks it should have been awarded as well.

          Pog , RVP, Tevez,

Can anyone explain to me how you are meant to ideally increase your Team Value on a wildcard. I'm a bit confused. Say if I played my WC and I saw there were 4/5 players likely to rise by .2/3m, would you just buy in all these players regardless of whether you wanted them and then sell on once they've reached their max rise?

What if a player only rises by .1m...is that basically useless because you don't get the extra .1m of selling value?

The other thing I was wondering is if you have say Hazard for example who you might have bought at 9.8m and he's since risen to 10+. If you sell him for a different player who is guaranteed to rise .2m does this mean you won't lose anything if you want to ultimately get him back into your WC team? Or are you losing value by selling the likes of Hazard temporarily?

I know this sounds a bit stupid but I'm not entirely sure how it all works.

Fill your team with players on the rise. If any rise by 0.2 you can sell them and you made 0.1 (or keep them of course)

If players rise by 0.1 and you keep them then, techinically, you have a better team value but it means sweet FA unless they rise again or you wanted them anyway.

Yep, get potential double risers even if it's someone you absolutely loathe. Make that £0.1m profit and get rid if you don't want. £0.1m rise is of no use.

In that scenario, you have to buy Hazard back at his current price.

Yeah, this the thing I'm curious about, if say I play my WC with the likes of Hazard/Tevez in my team who I have made rises on. Their selling price would obviously be less than their current cost price so if you intend on keeping them do you have to rule these type of guys out in the whole 'value game'? By which I mean, I assume you don't just transfer out all 11 players hoping for loads of .2m rises, but rather you are restricted to getting these rises at the expense of players you have that currently have no Selling price/Cost Price differentiation and therefore you won't lose anything as a result of transferring them?

Spot on. If you're intent on keeping players like Hazard, Tevez etc. who you've already made a profit on, don't sell them. There won't be too many double risers for you to have such a conundrum, atleast I didn't face it. Made only £0.3m by WCing in the international break.

But yeah, that's the gist. You can afford to sell players with no SP/CP difference and get in potential double risers.

Bottom line, WC early when there are still a "feeding frenzy" and everyone is still keen on playing or take hits and get on the bandwagons(eg Mark).

In many cases the santi's/hazards/Berba's/Tevez/Rvp's were bought for hits by teams holding on to their WC's. TV and points increased. Win Win.

and re selling hazard for a player who rises 0.2 - this only works if new player rises and hazard DOESN'T rise... and of course he might rise again before you want him back...

Basically chase points not dollars, with the exception of during your wildcard!

points directly affect price rises, but prices rises don't directly affect points.

Nicely put there at the end.

Ben, Don't forget it's costing you a trade to get Haz back in(unless you are talking WC), so I would suggest getting say a Santi in for Haz if you feel he will outscore Haz over a certain set of fixtures, but don't try and increase TV by buying and selling like Haz.

Yes, correct. You start off getting the players you def want in your WC and put them in and forget about them(just in case you get pissed somewhere during the WC week and their prices sky rocket. It's happened....)

Get rid of the players you def don;t want and replace them with the possible risers. In a perfect world the players you are getting in and want to keep(Eg Hazard/Michu/Tevez during my WC week) are the players that everyone is getting so due to the volumes being traded the prices increase. I made +-/ 1mill in a week.

The "other thing" you are asking is to complex for me to even think about so early in the morning...

A differential is a player that scores, WHILE THE ALTERNATIVE DOES NOT SCORE.

Link your team if you want help. We have no idea what your alternatives are.

Between those two, I would play Pienaar. Everyday of the week.

Ye I'm going to get Berb in soon, if he scores against Wigan I may take a hit to catch the inevitable rise, no point in waiting to get him at an inflated price right? Although I'm worried I might be forced into taking an 8 point hit to feed my Berbahunger.

Call me crazy but I was planning:

            Terry > Baines
            Lescott > Davies
Pog > Berb (depending whether he scores or not)

Basically I think if he blanks this week his rises will slow, hence why I'd wait another week.

      Buy (and captain) Shola Ameobi.

Of course it will. Mark bought Berba on Sat eve.

Then again Mark has had two top 1k and another three top 3.5k finishes....So he knows what he is doing.

Had to laugh at my mate.

Used his wildcard , first thing he did was rempove all fifteen players and replace them with others , so could try out different things.
He totally forgot that by removing Hazard , Michu , Tevez etc he would not be able to afford to get them back in. its really stuffed his team value.
I think it might work out for him though , as have a feeling those three players have had their run

Yeah, sometimes one gets all screwed up and make silly mistakes. I bought and sold Silva 3 times I think last year. Obviously losing out massively after enjoying his price hike early on. It cost me a lot in TV.

That's why I'm reluctant to let players like Michu/Tevez/Haz go if they run into a bit of a barren patch. But you will be surprised how the markets often correlate with actual scoring.

I held on to Rooney way to long last year and Drogba the year before when they were not scoring and their prices were dropping/stagnating. Meanwhile others were raking in points and TV with alternatives.

Not so sure about Tevez , rotation will loom large one Aguero back. And Hazard this week has one point capt written all over him. Have you seen how many midfielders have?

Think Hazard will be a regular and the others will be fighting for the other spots. They only play one striker so there are 5 MF/ATT MF spots up for grabs.

Hazard is young and very fit, and on the form he's already showed looks like an absolute must for all important games (sure he'll be rested for League cup and earlier FA cup ties though)

    A)Michu

madness to captainn baines this week? thinking with swans backline hurting he could get some attacking points adn maybe a cs thrown in there for good measure

and if you say yes that's crazy would it also be crazy to captain pie?

      Nothing wrong with this.

No Chico, or Taylor for swans. Villa knocked 2 past them.

But swanssea are good at the liberty so you may lose your cs points, if your struggling for options though Baines could be a bold shout.

i've got hazard and hba as possible captain options (along with michu graham rvp and tevez) but just feeling a bit risky atm

surely i'd have to go baines out of the two of them right?

and it's just interesting to note that of the 4gw's so far this year, 3 weeks the top scoring player has been a defender...

yeah, i wonder if it'll keep up. and besides ivanovic, the other two no one was even expecting them to do well

really? wow! i've never captained a keeper (not sure why you would...) but I remember i captianed bos last season on a whim. ended up working out as i had an awful week and he was my top scoring player (pre bonus). and i may have captained a defender one other time but i can't remember...

only thing holding me back is someone (i can't remember who) told me when i bought baines a couple weeks back (first time ever owning him btw) that I should never captain him....

    Good morning.

Repost from last night, but as always I would appreciate som DZs views....

    Team for this week…

    Foster
    Cole, Demel, Clark.
    Michu, Bale, Lampard, Nolan
    RVP, Petric, Tevez.

    Subs: Kacankailc, Zabaleta, Gunter.

    2 questions….
A). Start Clark over Zab? I am kinda leaning more towards Zab now.
    B) I was going to take a HIT for Ba over Petric, but don’t think I’ll go for Demba now he’s Petric is fit?

    Thoughts?

I would start Zab over Clark. Also, if Ba is going to stay there long term, take the hit.

Just looked at the bookies for odds to help with picking a captain this week.

Sod all help, nuff said! Ba (C), Bale (VC) seems to make most sense for my team. Ba edges it, with his 3 goals in four and a sustainable amount of shots. I expect him to start centrally or not at all.

But something tells me, QPR are more vulnerable at the back then Norwhich. Could be all the goals they have shipped!

After all the commotion this week with Ba's agent and the reaction of Pardew to it. It takes a brave man to captain Ba imo

But hope he plays and scores for your sake

I don't like those stats. For starters Citeh won't have it easy against Arsenal, ever since Bould has arrived their defence has improved a lot. I cant see loads of goals in that fixture.

Likewise Everton should be ranked a lot higher due to Swansea's defensive injury crisis.

Well Ivanovic is an exception because of a DGW, It's just the freak chance of a defender scoring and getting a CS 3 weeks out of 4, basically guaranteed top spot if this happens.

Which is the best Reading defender to get? Gorkss, Harte? The stats aren't particularly compelling both players have their strengths. Is Harte going to be a regular and does he take enough set pieces? Any ideas on this situation, their fixtures are pretty good for the next 10 games or so.

Any reason why you're so keen on a RDG DF? Rotates well with your other cheapie I'm guessing?

I'd go Gorkss to save on cash for a player who'll be on the bench the vast majority of weeks anyway
