Vidic Blow for United

Manchester United have this afternoon confirmed Nemanja Vidic is set to be sidelined for around eight weeks. The Serbian missed Sunday’s trip to Liverpool and while reports had initially suggested he would return for this weekend’s home showdown with Tottenham, they have proven to be way off the mark, as the club announced:

“Nemanja Vidic has had a meniscus operation on his right knee and will be out for around eight weeks. Sir Alex, as a precautionary measure, rested Vidic at the weekend, after he complained of tightness in his knee, however, further medical investigation revealed the underlying problem. The central defender was operated on this week and will be sidelined for about eight weeks.”

It’s a bitter blow for Ferguson as his side square up to a run of fixtures that pit them against four of last season’s top six in the next five Gameweeks. Faith in the United backline has been dented by a single clean sheet accrued in the opening first five matches and today’s news will only lessen confidence in their ability to nullify opponents.

It’s perhaps a worry for Rafael’s newly-acquired owners – the right-back has been transferred in by over 31,000 FPL managers in the Gameweek so far, second only to Leighton Baines for defenders. If the right-back is to prosper, he’ll likely need to continue the attacking output that has so far harvested two goals in four starts – a tough ask, with games against Spurs, Newcastle, Chelsea and Arsenal on the horizon.

The Vidic news will – once again – promote Jonny Evans in our thinking. The Irishman benefitted from his skipper’s absence last term and looks set to establish himself as a regular in the first XI until the Serbian is ready to return. Bearing in mind that Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are still injured, there’s virtually no competition for Evans or Rio Ferdinand to worry about. Intriguingly, the two centre-halves and Rafael all come in under 6.0 in FPL – with starts looking assured and rotation threats in goal and at left-back, they seem nailed-on until Ferguson’s injury worries begin to ease.

With a threadbare backline that has struggled so markedly to produce clean sheets, it may well be that Ferguson has no option but to go on the attack in order to win games right now. If the same defensive pattern continues, returns at the back could well be minimal – such a scenario would place even greater reliance on Robin Van Persie and co to produce the goods up top, as United look to ride out what is a potentially difficult period.

Terry is back, Cesar gets chance for a debut, Cashley rested and set for a start in the w/e, Juan Mata could be benched in the w/e again too. That shit value striker gets the chance to score finally against "mighty" Wolves

Slightly worried about Tevez starting tonight, let's hope he only plays 60 mins or so.

Mind you, I'm sure he could always play twice in one week, but I expect Dzeko and Aguero to start against Fulham if he gets the full 90.

Bit of an early question chaps,

i have Berbs, Ba, and Tevez up top and played my WC last week so i cant do a big shuffle around! but it was definitely worth it as i got 85 points and moved back to the top of my work league!

I am 100% set on that im taking Tevez out this week and i will move Yaya in next week as i dont like the risk of a Man City striker with all the rotation going on!

My Question after its long winded delay is

    Lukaku/Long, RVP, Bent, or Suarez?

sorry for the Re-Post, bottom of the page and all that

My wc has changed a bit. Here goes...

    Jask beg

    Rafael Gibbs baines clyne Barnett

Cazorla Ben arfa pienaar fellaini sterling

    Vanp Lambert Defoe

2.5mil and counting in the bank (should get a few double risers)

Note cheap defs are almost always second and third subs and rotate very well.

I've got RVP and Tevez and I'd keep them both. Unless I can release funds for Aguero I wouldn't bother getting either of the others in just yet.

Neither, both options way to open to rotation, much better mid-priced, nailed on strikers around at the moment. IMO

Aren't we happy that the bonus system isn't just awarding goals?

Granted Bale's high PPI was partially due to playing LB in the first half but from what I've heard he turned the game around when he moved forward.

The fact that Tevez plays tonight (bar injury) has 0-5% effect on the probability that he will start on Saturday. The game is four days away. If it were played tomorrow, it might, say, have a 25% effect on the situation.

Exactly so while tevez starting has little implication, aguero out of the squad means this weekend it will probably be aguero + 1.

This means tevez isn't nailed on by any means. I could see balotelli getting a start

For me Ballo won't start w/e Dzeko will be subbed in early so Tevez and Kun will start IMO. But Dzeko and Kun started at the w/e, Feck it looks bad. Tevez owners worried here. Looks like Mark was right to sell him for a hit.

Mark, if want to contribute to FFS, who do you contact? Not sure if it's interesting to anyone, but as an exercise and for personal use I made a small program which crawls a betting site and then presents the odds in a more interesting way. For us, that would be an ordered table of what the bookmakers figure the Clean sheet odds and the Chance-to-score odds to be.

Sure, but it doesn't use bookmakers odds, it calculates it in a different way (which is how they got the "odds" for ALL gameweeks). I like the bookie odds.

May be take a punt on city def , cliche maybe with there good fixtures coming up

Also if on a wildcard I think I'd get Arguero over tevez
Defoe don't like the player , rotation a bit of a worry also
