Mata Concern for Chelsea

Roberto Di Matteo has left Fantasy managers sweating ahead of Chelsea’s game with Swansea tomorrow after admitting Juan Mata is “very doubtful” to make the Liberty trip. The Spaniard played the full 120 minutes of his side’s 5-4 extra time Capital One Cup win over United on Wednesday evening but may be set to miss out this weekend.

With a stunning free-kick against United in the Premier League on Sunday, Mata has now returned 54 points in his past five appearances. A series of sensational displays have seen him transferred in by over 98,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers this week and with over 140,000 picking him up prior to last week’s match with United, his price has now risen by 0.5 since the end of Gameweek 8.

Bearing in mind Di Matteo’s side have a crucial Champions League game with Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday, Mata’s owners will be a little apprehensive as the Blues boss looks to keep his key men fit for the midweek Stamford Bridge showdown. Undoubtedly, it’s a real boost for those who chose to hold onto Eden Hazard in spite of Mata’s rising price – the Belgian played just 65 minutes against Sir Alex Ferguson’s side and will surely be more crucial than ever, if Mata does indeed fail to make it.

Bego and McCarthy a good enough pair of 'keepers?

I'm thinking Bego is fine to keep between the sticks until the DGW for McCarthy.

I know, I'd prefer to have a better option, but this allows me to get RVP in.

  Even the most seasoned players fall for this one. For all the thinking and discussion that can go into our teams, we only really get to do a couple of things most weeks... change your captain, maybe swap one or two players from the bench and make a transfer. That's why we knee-jerk I think!

For those that brought Mata in earlier this week and saying you won't make an early transfer again it was very unlucky.

Since the start of last season I've always made my transfers early up to January if prices were changing and its never backfired. If it goes wrong one week like this has for many it may mean you waste 4 points but the value gained in making transfers early over half a season is massive and justified when you've got 110m+ to splash out in January. The difference between having say a Utd defender instead of a QPR defender from January to the end of the season should get the points to justify the risk of early transfers.

I took an 8 point hit which included getting Mata the Saturday night after the Spurs game and between him and Sterling my team value has gone up about 1m because of it. I broke even on the hit last week. Am really pissed that I'm not going to start gaining points from it this week but my team looks strong and I wouldn't be able to afford it now. If Mata is out for some time and not just one week its going to be very annoying but making decisions early means I have the value to easily swap him for the likes of Valencia.

Tbh i signed him but didn't reallt expect a full 90 off him this weekend with CL fixtures...I think De Matteo more or less gave that away by picking him the other night whils resting (?) Hazard...Gonna be par for the course these missing fixtures with anybody from Chelsea/United midfield and attacks...I wouldn't be suprised to see RVP rested now and again in the next six weeks either..
