Spot the Differential – Gameweek 10

In a frantic Friday packed full of articles, we finally see out the day with our pre-weekend regular. As always, we roll out three overlooked alternatives ahead of tomorrow morning’s deadline for your perusal…

Antonio Valencia

Having racked up four goals and 14 assists over 2,124 minutes in the previous campaign, the United winger had proven to be a constant source of Fantasy points for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side. The Red Devils’ summer acquisition of Dortmund’s Shinji Kagawa and Robin Van Persie from Arsenal shifted the spotlight away from the former Wigan man, though, and with Wayne Rooney also in the mix, Valencia has been shifted to the periphery of our Fantasy thinking.

To an extent, it’s understandable. While the likes of Juan Mata, Eden Hazard, Gareth Bale and Santi Cazorla dominate the heavyweight attention with eye-catching displays aplenty, Valencia’s highest haul has been just five points. In a campaign already hampered by ankle and foot injuries, the winger has returned to form and fitness and is again hinting at the consistency which served his Fantasy owners so well last time round – Valencia has now provided an assist in each of his last four starts and could well be set to torment Arsenal’s stand-in left-back Andre Santos in tomorrow’s lunchtime kick-off.

Priced at 8.6 in FPL and 7.9 in the Sky Sports game, Valencia has an ownership of just 2.7% in the former game and with a strong run of fixtures to follow, looks an enticing differential route into a United side that have already racked up 24 goals, more than any side so far.

Theo Walcott

A hat-trick and a trio of assists in Arsenal’s extraordinary midweek Capital One Cup comeback win at Reading highlighted Walcott’s current form. Having failed to start a single league match since Gameweek 1, he’s been something of an outcast this term but with Gervinho sidelined due to an ankle injury, tomorrow’s encounter at Old Trafford looks likely to hand him a chance to return to the Gunners first XI.

Much has been made over his desire to nail down a central role but Walcott may have to settle for a berth on the right flank, with Aaron Ramsey the man likely to make way now that Jack Wilshere is back to partner Mikel Arteta in the centre. Given the comparative form of Olivier Giroud, though, Wenger may well be tempted to shift Walcott centrally if things aren’t going his side’s way tomorrow and with a home clash against Fulham to follow, he also offers the potential for points next week, too. Priced at 8.7 in FPL and 7.5 in the Sky Sports game, and with an ownership of just 1.2% in FPL, many will be hoping Walcott can return to the form that harvested 169 FPL points in the season gone by.

Wes Hoolahan

There’s no question the season started poorly for the Republic of Ireland international. Paul Lambert’s departure to Villa afforded Chris Hughton the chance to take the Carrow Road reins and with the new boss undecided over his best starting XI, Hoolahan cut a peripheral figure, with a mere 14 minutes game time over Norwich’s first four league fixtures.

Since Gameweek 5, though, the playmaker has started four of the last five and has played every minute from Gameweek 7 onwards. As confidence begins to grow, a 1-0 home win over Arsenal was followed by a draw at Lambert’s new club Villa, with Hoolahan a key figure in last weekend’s match –he provided the assist for Michael Turner’s equaliser and resultantly picking up two bonus points.

Tucked in behind Grant Holt in Hughton’s now-default 4-4-1-1, his creativity is clearly crucial to the Canaries chances as Hughton looks to build on the back of the midweek Capital One Cup win over Spurs. Up against a Stoke side that have managed a single clean sheet in their five away games, and with a trip to Reading to follow next weekend, Hoolahan – coming in at 5.5 in FPL and 6.8 in the Sky Sports game and with an ownership of 0.3% in both games, offers a real mid-price midfield punt ahead of tomorrow’s deadline.

Speaking of RVP, how do you think he will celebrate if he scores tonight? Just a quiet high-5 to Valencia or out of control celebration?

    Foster
    Baines - Gorkss - Jenkinson*
    Sterling - Cazorla - Bale - Hazard - Mata*
    Rooney - Berbatov
Bench: Begovic | Ba* - Demel** - Wilson**

My plan is to switch one of Jenkinson or Wilson -> Nelsen and field 3 DFs.

One of Mata & Ba may miss the game and I could be short of 11 players.
Do you think if any of this move worth -4 pts hit?

A: Mata -> Valencia .. Reason: United will have a nice run of fixtures.

B: Mata -> Y.Toure .. Reason: I currently have no City. Garcia is back. Yaya to get more time to get forward? He's more nailed on and more chance to get bonus points from every game. But City could focus more in their last chance in CL.

yaya is interesting. But with Silva back next week, its too short term.

      Nelsen in.

Ba will start. Mata wont travel and rest for the CL.

I'm just considering -4 pts hits for Valencia or Yaya because I have both Haz & Mata.

    cuellar doubtful (75% chance playing)

I would upgrade one of Kaca and Guthrie to an attacking midfielder who plays every week. Lots to choose from in the 6-8m bracket. The other can be left as bench fodder or switched next week to someone who isn't going to lose value or to McAnuff or Sterling.

I've realised a have a few issues this week in selecting the correct team, was wondering if I could get a few opinions.

    Foster (SOT)

    Baines, Gallas, Clark (sun)
Bale(c), Mata+, Caz (mun), Pienaar (ful)
    RVP, Berbatov, Ba+

Subs: Sterling (NEW), Davies (CHE), Demel+

I'm trusting my gut on the captaincy but for the rest of the team I'm uncertain about keeping Sterling on the bench, I would like both Mata and Ba to start but I do expect one of them to not start and hopefully not feature from the bench so Sterlo can come on. So does everything look in order?

To ensure Sterling's points, I might just put Pienaar or Ba on the bench instead of him and expect the same result when Mata didn't feature.

I meant not in that fixture... the one at Anfield...

That seems to be a bit of an omen for Cisse and Newcastle... but then again he did score against most teams last year...

Caz owners what are you going to do if he gets another 2pts this week when United win 2-0? I still plan to keep unless someone else becomes the new must have.

I sold him for Mata... Long term I think I made the right move. I like Carzola but don't see there being anyone for him to pass to (unless Walcott gets regular starts up front).

That is a worry but it would be unprecedented for Arsenal to struggle to find the back of the net. Their attacking form will change imo and either Giroud or Walcot will step up and be counted.

Tell me if this is madness or worth the hit....

I am starting Clyne and I have Barnett on the bench. I want to take an 8 point hit, swap Yaya for Sterling and start him. Then swap Barnett for Rafael and start him as well. I think both Sterling and Rafael outscore Yaya and Clyne and and surpass the point hit.

It will then allow me to fix other areas of my squad. thoughts??

IMO not worth it now Garcia is back as yaya will play more attacking but if you believe it will outscore a 8 point hit as well as yayas points do it

I've tried to be a bit too proactive this season with the likes of Aguero and Giroud.
Just hoping against hope that Ramirez doesn't join that list although he's not that expensive budget wise.

I'm Baling out of Mata (geddit??) but I'm 0.1 short. My gut says it's worth the hit and the keeper downgrade, as I fancy Mignolet for a cleanie... but then I also like the idea of a Mata-less Hazard on spot kicks etc.

Then again, I could be persuaded to not take a hit and just get a cheaper mid. Any ideas? I'm thinking of a w/c next week so i could go nuts this week based on fixtures, sell Toure as well & get RVP, for example.

    hm..

I have just noticed... I still have every single player I have transferred in to date...

I have made 12 transfers, that leaves Pienaar, Gunter & Clyne and my last remaining survivors...

Only Pienaar will stay from those...

You've senisibly avoided the Aguero, Fellaini etc roundabouts. If i get either again, it'll be for the third time this season. Oh it looked so good on paper.

Been thinking about this all day and still none the wiser

    2 free transfers

keep current mids (use one free on defender

    Pienaar Cazola sterling michu (mata)

use one free to bring in Bale

    Pienaar Bale Sterling Michu (mata)

Use two frees to bring in Bale and Hazard

    Pienaar Bale Hazard Michu (Sterling)

    any ideas?

Yes thats the option i was favouring , it keeps two frees for next weeks , and brings in the dangerous Bale .
Also means i play sterling and dont have a bench dilema.

I know that the logical solution , but as a former Hazard owner i will be mighty upset if he lands a big haul
