Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Casualty

As you’ll have seen in Sunday’s Scout Notes, Fantasy favourite Marouane Fellaini was the big casualty of accrued yellows this week. A booking in the 2-1 loss at Reading tipped the Belgian over the five-card line and into the ban list for Gameweek 13 – the pileous purveyor of Fantasy points will now miss the visit of a buoyant Norwich and hand his 36.9% Fantasy Premier League (FPL) owners a midfield conundrum this weekend.

Elsewhere on the tightrope, we saw a couple of new faces arrive, with Wigan captain Gary Caldwell the first to fill the void left by the aforementioned Belgian, as his fourth yellow of the season added him to an ever-growing list, while in Sunday’s game at Craven Cottage, the only player with three cautions to his name – Steve Sidwell duly delivered another indiscretion and will receive his tightrope invitation in the Monday morning mail.

On to Monday night and a plethora of players blink wildly on the tightrope office radar system, as West Ham host Stoke in a game that could justify a couple of extra paragraphs should the cards fall a certain way. On the home side, we already have the defensive pairing of James Collins and Winston Reid primed on four bookings, just one slip from a week off, while midfielder Mark Noble sits one away from tightrope notoriety on three. The visitors see a trio of protagonists alongside Noble on three bookings, with Charlie Adam, Ryan Shawcross and Andy Wilkinson also ready to climb aboard.

Welcoming Fellaini into suspension land (no doubt to compare grooming tips), we still have Fabricio Coloccini sitting out the third match of his ban in Gameweek 13. The Newcastle skipper will be followed swiftly through the door by the sheepish pair of Tottenham’s Togolese striker, Emmanuel Adebayor and Fulham’s Texas-born Norwegian, Brede Hangeland, after their game-changing straight red cards bring three game bans that will stretch well into December.

    How does this team look?

After a great GW score of 81 plus Bogovic & Cameron to go I am back in the top 1k. Here is my team for next weekend.

    Begovic
    Baines / G.Johnson / Cameron
    Mata / Silva / Walcott / Puncheon
    Rooney (c) / Tevez / Giroud (vc)

    McCarthy / Sterling / Gorkss / Nelsen

I have been debating it but im not sure if it is worth the risk with the competion Enrique will face from Assadi/Downing.

May want to get hold of Cuellar. And surely now Enrique better value than Johnson?

        Thanks.

See above re Enrique. I was looking at possibly switching Cameron to Cuellar so that I am not doubling up on Stoke defenders. Would also give me the exact amount of money to swap Rooney to RVP if I wished.

Could well be a very good pick and a great differential. If I had spare room in my midfield I would be taking a look at him.

My problem for this week is Silva-Mata going H2H after tough CL fixtures. Hope it is not a snoozefest.

I wouldn't be expecting too much from that game just because as you say the big game is the midweek game. That said it MAY produce an open (or sloppy) affair which could lead to a few goals each.

    Whats everyone's thoughts on Suarez.

Was all set to do Tevez to Suarez this week, but with Tevez scoring heavily does it make any sense to get rid.

Might sit tight and hope Suarez picks up a booking this weekend, then get him in for SOU at home. But if he keeps banging in goals and his price keeps rising I might not be able to afford him

It's close.... but I'd go A. Think Walcott will get increased gametime and Sunderland are poor at the moment. Fletcher's tally yesterday was v 10 men, previous blanks are more indicative of the team's form. They have good fixtures but I think Walcott will edge it, even from the benches.

Walcott as he's a bit cheaper than Hazard/Mata/Santi/Silva but could get same returns and you'll want 3 other better strikers than Fletcher

    Ba owners who are worried about no Cabaye, for what its worth;
So far this season, Cabaye missed both the Reading and Swansea games where Ba scored 2 and 1, managing 14 shots in the process.
    Looking at last season and the games Cabaye missed;
WBA (H) - Ba scored twice in a 2-3 loss (6 shots on goal)
Villa (H) - Ba scored once (4 shots)
Spurs (A) - Ba nothing in that 5-0 loss (5 shots)

So in the 5 games Cabaye has missed over the last 2 seasons, Ba has 6 goals and had 29 shots (almost 6 per game)..

TBF he won't be an unused sub this season. If they do end up switching to 4-3-3 like Pardew is considering then he could be a good pick again. Better options out there though.

Problem is that Pardew is an idiot. Cant play HBA at right mid, hes totally handcuffed. Play him on either wing or in the famous "hole" and watch him be your best player week in week out. But no, i`ll play him on the wing just to give Shola some gametime. Quality thinking m8, quality.

I like the Hughes to Cuellar, especially considering the DGW. Lambert looks to be coming into form (2 weeks after I dropped him 🙁 ) so I would stick with him.

Shane Long is good but doesn't complete 90 minutes. Gets subbed off. But that is a small consideration. If you are not keen on taking hits, then Long can be a good stopgap transfer.

I think Hughes made the error of getting in these players and instructed them to play like Brazil. A number of rules he forgot, build your team from the back, and when at home got at teams from the first minute, Abandon zonal marking, give armband to Nelsen, would also improve things.

Sorry, there are a lot of options, I need some help as I'm struggling! LOL

    a) (OUT) Cazorla. Hazard, Ba (IN) Walcott, Silva, Suarez
    b) (OUT) Baines, Ba (IN) Enrique, Suarez
    c) (OUT) Baines, Hazard, Lambert (IN) Garrido, Silva, Suarez

Are we actually keen on Sterling as a starter? Sure he's had a great run of form but Liverpool have a fair bit of depth in their wingers..

We dont really have depth on the wings. Sure, Downing and Assaidi are natural wingers, but Downing is far off form and has been told he can leave, and Assaidi is struggling to find his fitness, With Borini out Sterling is pretty much our only natural winger, which is why Enrique has been moved forward as of late.

Suarez surely wont make it through the year without another yellow, which means suspension which pretty much f***s our offensive game. I dont have Suarez myself, and im hesitant to get him in before he gets suspended. I just know its coming:/

            Yeah, we all can!
That's why I'm kind of hesitant in some ways as well. Especially with Kaca out for me now I have no sub for midfield so I'd have to throw in a defender if he yellows. Not much of a fuss but that could screw up my strategies.
Being a 'pool supporter yourself, don't you want to get him in either way? I'd do the same if it was Giroud (in which I'm tempted). 😀

Well yeah ofcourse i want him in, especially as a Pool-fan! I was going to just do Giroud -> Suarez if Giroud didnt produce against Fulham, and then he did.. I still think RVP will end up with more points eventually and i needed to salvage my defence rather than subbing of in-form Giroud. And like i said, i just know that yellow is coming. After that though, i need to look at getting him in:)

Nah, I think your team is fine, Suarez would be too much of a hassle for you to get in.
To be honest I think I might gamble it and go with my option of A and bring in Luis this week. Yellow card or not, my attack is pissing me off... haha

After following the Captain Poll for RVP, and not captaining Tevez (at home against Villa!), while benching Sterling, my GW could've been so much better.

Anyway, here's the team at the moment. Any thoughts on improving this lot?

    Bego
    Baines / Clyne / Gorkss
Sterling / Walcott / Bale (VC) / Barfa
    RVP (C) / Tevez / Berba

Subs: Jussi / Fellaini / McA / Nelsen

Big striker dilemmas at the moment, we are being spoilt for choice.

I currently hold RVP - Ba - Tevez, but can't help thinking that Ba and Tevez may need switching sooner rather than later (fixtures aren't as nice as some other options for Tevez, whereas Newcastle's form is a worry for me with Ba).

Any optimum times for offloading these two? Giroud, Suarez, Berba, Defoe, even Fletcher are looking mighty tempting with their form and fixtures.

    Begovic - Foster
    Baines - Wilkinson - Cuellar - Nelsen - Simpson
    Bale - Mata - Cazorla - Pienaar - Sterling
    Suarez – Ba – Berbatov

Next week for a hit Pienaar + Sterling -> Silva + Puncheon, will this be my best option to get Silva in ?

Silly to lose Sterling with his form and Pool's fixtures coming up. Good enough for 4th mid or, if you don't agree, perfect insurance on bench.

Baines > someone cheaper to fund it instead?

BTW, the mid you will have is a very good argument for going non-RVP. Doesn't quite sway me, but still.

But Fellaini and Michu are keeping up for much cheaper.
Same could be said for Tevez/Suarez vs RVP though..

Very true. That's partly why it doesn't sway me

I would sooner lose Baines than Sterling tbh.

    2 FT's available.

    Lambert --> Berbatov
Michu --> Maloney (could rotate with Sterling)
    Tevez --> Suarez

Would be left with no City players.

Youre trading off 3 players on form with good fixtures coming up to get 3 players on worse form with worse fixtures? Great idea.

    Begovic (mannone)
    rafael baines cueller (davies demel)
    michu cazorla sterling nasri (fellaini)
    rvp berba Ba

Have 1FT and 0.7m in the bank….Not sure what to do.
A: ba >> giroud…and then sell cazorla the following week
    B:. ba + cazorla >> giroud + silva…. for a hit
    C: ba + nasri >> suarez + any mid upto 6.8 i.e. morrison…for a hit
    D: ba + nasri >> tevez + any mid upto 7.5 i.e. lennon/johnson…for a hit

I want to bring in suarez and tevez but taking out Ba doesnt make sense since they playing southampton. suarez is on 4 yellows and tevez is playing chelsea.

If i had the cash, i would have just done nasri >> silva but in order to do that now, i have to take a hit…

    thoughts?

Why do you have to ditch Berbatov? I've considered it but don't see myself doing it..

@jack. its only a short term punt as i think ba or giroud will outscore him over next few fixtures..i can always get him back.

Fair doos..for short term I'd go Ba. Southampton and Wigan in his next 3. Giroud's fixtures aren't as easy as they seem.

He may have bad fixtures but you will only want him back in 3 weeks I can't see the point in getting rid of Berby

    Is Simpson-Turner, Fellaini-Walcott worth a 4pt hit?
If I have walcott this week he will play instead of Cameron/Sterling/Cuellar. Will he get 4 more points than 1 of them/
