The ScoutCast – Episode Ninety – Subtle

Maybe I underestimated Granville. Maybe his throwaway comment made at 10.32 on a weary Wednesday evening wasn’t throwaway at all. Maybe Granville is a Fantasy football mind games genius.

Regardless of whether his plan was pre-meditated and devious, it certainly worked as you’ll find out in this, episode ninety of the ScoutCast.

Aside from my sidekick’s scheming, we give dear old Leighton another rinse following his twanged hamstring, tackle the template midfield yet again, check on the market movements in “all aboard” and, of course, look forward to the weekend action. We also start spending points on the ScoutCast team: it’s the slippery slope. Where’s Granville’s genius when you need it?

Reveal the evil plan via this link or simply stream this latest episode on the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

OK, I just wanna talk a bit about goals and targets...

This is the first time since I started playing this game seriously that I have encountered some resistance to moving up the ranks... every single year I have had a customary slow start, that is normal, but in the previous two years, I had managed to get up to around 100k within 6-10 weeks and build on from that...

Whether it be from a series of bad decision making over just pure bad luck, this year I still find myself hovering around the embarrassing 500k mark... I do, however, find this to be a great challenge for me, and one that I am excited about taking on...

I have took a step backward and looked at the points I need to make up to achieve certain targets; the successful completion of which will help my achieve my revised ultimate goal this year of finishing top 10k... I'm only on 667pts right now...

    Target 1 - top 250k - 30pts off
    Target 2 - top 100k - 60pts off
    Target 3 - top 50k - 80pts off
    Ult. Goal - top 10k - 110pts off

Looking at these numbers, I have resolved that my rank looks worse than it actually is... a run of 4/5 below average weeks have stagnated my ranking... however, a couple of good, above-average weeks will see me propel up to just outside the top 100k... and with a bit of luck, some sustained above-average scoring will see me reach my targets sooner than rather than later...

The moral of the story is that I am not letting this get me down, and I am still confident of reaching my goals...

    Thanks for listening (reading)...

Zep, I feel your pain as every year I have an awful start and then try to drag myself up by my fingernails. I'm not doing so bad this year but 2 bad gws got me from top 10k to 40k... this means the reverse is possible. I lost a 45pt league in my ML to my rival's good (c) picks... what am I saying?

Yes... things can turn around very quickly. I'm sure they will for you.

So when you maestros have a slow start and start catching up towards the end, has it something to do with your high TV paying dividens in the second half of the season?

I wonder if successful people in FPL actually pays more attention on money in the first half and points later or is that not the case?

I think finding the right balance is key...

Extra TV certainly helps towards the end of the season... but not necessarily at the cost of too many hits to achieve these rises...

    Asked this question last page but didn't really understtod the response;

What was the reason Benitez dropped Mata? Was it because the preferred formation could not accomodate him?

If yes then if Mata plays this week, does that mean that will be at the expense of Hazard?

read something last page thats making me worried

No, it was purely to rest him with number of games to be played.

Yep I'm pretty convinced of that. He was rested against Brom before Juventus and Man City. He's been rested against Fulham before West Ham and the must win game against Nordsjaellend.

All looks so simple in hindsight, I do need to see if I can use this to crack the other rotation worries.

For example, united don't need to win their Cl game do they - so RVP need not play. Thus we can expect him to play against reading?

When you try to apply this to Rooney, it gets interesting - he appears to start literally every game when fit doesn't he?

I think some players are clearly fitter than others.

Good point, I would say most united fans would say Rooney is as important to them as RVP though. I'm prepared to be proved wrong here 😆

On that note, how the heck does messi play every game, and I pretty much mean every, for Barca? He absolutely cannot afford to get injured.

Because the Russian has told Benitez to build the Chelski attack around Torres and Mata doesn't like it.

Just remember PL players don't get 'rested', they get dropped to the bench. Why is the big question & no one other than the manager can answer this. Mata will almost certainly play next game. If he doesn't then the theories about Chelski in meltdown may be true.

PL players don't get rested, they get dropped to the bench?

So when RVP didn't start against Wigan after scoring a HAT TRICK the week before, he was dropped to the bench.

          You need a clue stick.

Same as other teams...MK Dons are fantastic away support (sing for most of 90 mins away) but yes at home would be good if atmosphere was better..guess the away hardcore are scattered. But just the same as Man Utd say...Old Trafford very quiet, but United fans away are amongst the best away.

Having said that, I have experienced some real corkers at MK....Leeds, Posh, QPR, Leciester spring to mind - where there were 18,000 or so at each. I well recall 2 seasons ago when Leeds came...their 7000 were loud and "Marching On" etc BUT whole second half, we drowned them out eg constant "MK Army" for 20 mins or so....

So agreed to a point, but potential is certainly there....

Fair comment....it can be lacking in some fixtures, and I kind of enjoy away games more as I know we usually outsing the home fans. But as I said, is this not repeated at many clubs up and down the land ?

Classic away match was at Charlton about 3 years ago....20,000 or so....we sang whole 90 minutes and had to sing "we forgot that you were here" many times to the very, very quiet Charlton fans. You know, they even won 5-1....and yet we were singing until the end, even "5 - 1, and you still don't sing !" 🙂

Actually, I would agree with you. Winkelman has been great but I disagree with him - he wants to keep "Dons" but I say "blow it"...lets just be MK Rangers or MKFC, and just go our separate ways....AFC theirs, MK ours.

Feeling is this cup tie is a bad thing...everyone seemed to have moved on from it all (10 years ago now) and both MK and AFC were both making good progress...but this cup tie has re-ignited the whole thing....

I say "time for all to move on"....
