Preview Movie – Rate My Team – Part One

Following on from our Hall of Fame preview on Christmas Day, we’re now able to show you a glimpse of the full “Rate My Team” funcitionality that we’re looking to add to the Members Area for the January Wildcards.

Chris Atkinson, the creator of the Rate My Team model, again joins me for this movie, the first of two that we’ve produced to show you have Rate My Team works.

What is Rate My Team?
Rate My team is a statistical model built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has a attacking, defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.

You can find out more about Rate My Team here, or, of course, in the movie below.

How Can It Help Me?
If you’re a member you can use the Rate My Team tool in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it as a projections tool to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. As you’ll see in the movie, you have a players table that can filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on “Value” to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.

However, this is just one part of the functionality. Rate My Team can also analyse your existing FPL lineup, recommend captains, vice captains your bench and bench order and allow you to model your future transfers. In the second “My Team” movie, we’ll show you this functionality in full.

Rather than post your team in the comments on the main site, our members can now enter their FPL code in Rate My Team and it will immediately offer you an appraisal of your squad. In a nutshell, it should prove rather useful for the January wildcard, when so many of us look to reconstruct our sides. Using Rate my Team you can transfer players in and out of your team and get an immediate appraisal of the impact of that transfer.

When will Rate My Team be available?
We’re looking to roll out the Rate My Team tool for our members on January 1.

In danger of not forming a starting 11 second week in a row is it wise to take a hit to fix my defence?

    A) Defoe -> Berba, Gorkss -> Nasty (or other 5.6 def for a hit)

    B) Gorkss -> Clyne/Davies (no hit and wait for the WC)

Just having a quick play around with some numbers with Goalkeepers.

Begovic is currently on an average of 4.68 ppg.

If you assume a keeper with a clean sheet gets 6 points, without gets 2 points. If you rotate a pair, you need to get 2 clean sheets every 3 games to work out with a ppg of 4.64.

I personally think (from my experience at least) finding a pair, and guessing the rotation correctly to get 2 in 3 is pretty difficult. I'm going to stick with Bego and the cheapest playing keeper I can (Bunn currently) til the end of the season and play Bego every week.

A good question. I don't see why not though, they've always been solid, it's not like their form this season has been altogether surprising. They seem to look more solid every year they have been in the prem.

Cant decide the best strategy for the Dgw/Wc. My team is decent enough so no real need to jump straight in but I’m not sure how good this Dgw is either. What’s people’s thoughts on it? Are you looking to get 6 in or wcing before or straight after it?

Fair enough, but Chelsea are look like they have a lot of goals in them.

Torres will start all games and is showing some form. If you really want shot of Tevez then he is the outstanding replacement candidate (imo)

I am not saying he is anywhere near the player he was at Liverpool. But he is Chelsea’s only striker at the moment and it’s obvious Benitez has been recruited to make him a success. He will play, and with the players behind him will score goals.
                  And that header.... wow.

That's the plan. I can't stand Tevez though. First, there's the issue of whether he'll start or not (which looks unlikely for this weekend). Then, there's the problem of City's attack faltering.

But I just don't see any other viable options in the 8-9.5 bracket.

My Mignolet/Jussi rotation so far has scored me 86, so an average of 4.5 per GW, better than I had expected.

For the January WC(GW24) i’m possibly looking at a Jussi/Guzan rotation given the H/A rotation, value and fixtures on offer.

NEW, SWA, WHM, TOT/ars, sto/MCI, rdg, QPR, WBA, liv/sto, FUL, WIG, SUN, NEW, CHE, RDG.

A few crappy GW's but it's good enough for me 😉

Hasn't hurt until now as I play Begovic each game, and had foster prior to him.

              Rotation is overrated.

yeh long term that could be the way to go, i should know i've been trolled a few times with the Bego/Foster combo.....but it just seems like a waste of a dgw slot, but obviously long term is more important

I like that midfield - might be able to squeeze in Walcott and Nolan. I'm deffos swapping Silva for Caz next week

When creating a members table, is there a criteria to only show the players who has played three out of the last four matches?

Asked this a few times today, but I'd love to get a few more opinions.

      A) Keep Silva (nor) and save FT

      B) Silva > Walcott (NEW) and free up cash for Shorey > Sagna next GW

      C) Find 0.1m this GW and Silva > Cazorla next GW

      D) Silva > Cazorla this GW for a -4 hit

      Many thanks 🙂

Arsenal v Newcastle is looking high scoring to me. Particularly with the defensive Gutierrez out for Newcastle. Maybe Walcott is worth a go.

          #toomuchflair

In fairness I was considering him madly for this GW, but I got a distinct sense I had missed his narrow window if pointage and his fixture this week put me off. No reason he couldn't score big this week though within fellaini.

I did sneak a look at Osman... that would've paid off...

Hi posted earlier got as reply from the very helpful Evs.

He reckon my double chelsea should be ditched perhaps in favour of Cazorla.

Team is linked had a good week but aint happy with a few namely Tevez should never have got rid of Suarez.

At present i have no float of spare money which i like to trade without multiple switches.

For this week does Hazard > Cazorla look the move in light of possible no Michu would mean having to field Sterling the thought makes me feel violently sick.

See this is my beef Walcott gives me extra spare cash money which I like and ok had Cazorla for 23pt wk but had him at other times he did f all and frankly i thought he played too deep assisting the assister. But of course there is rotation but we Alien vs Predator going to the ACON myb less risk?

And yes that is the beautiful Catherine. Jenkins

Looking to pickup a cheap 3rd Striker (must be 5.8m or cheaper). Here are some of the options I'm considering, what option would you all choose?

      A.) Anichebe
      B.) Ruiz
      C.) Cole
      D.) K. Jones
      E.) Other
