Preview Movie – Rate My Team – Part One

Following on from our Hall of Fame preview on Christmas Day, we’re now able to show you a glimpse of the full “Rate My Team” funcitionality that we’re looking to add to the Members Area for the January Wildcards.

Chris Atkinson, the creator of the Rate My Team model, again joins me for this movie, the first of two that we’ve produced to show you have Rate My Team works.

What is Rate My Team?
Rate My team is a statistical model built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has a attacking, defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.

You can find out more about Rate My Team here, or, of course, in the movie below.

How Can It Help Me?
If you’re a member you can use the Rate My Team tool in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it as a projections tool to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. As you’ll see in the movie, you have a players table that can filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on “Value” to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.

However, this is just one part of the functionality. Rate My Team can also analyse your existing FPL lineup, recommend captains, vice captains your bench and bench order and allow you to model your future transfers. In the second “My Team” movie, we’ll show you this functionality in full.

Rather than post your team in the comments on the main site, our members can now enter their FPL code in Rate My Team and it will immediately offer you an appraisal of your squad. In a nutshell, it should prove rather useful for the January wildcard, when so many of us look to reconstruct our sides. Using Rate my Team you can transfer players in and out of your team and get an immediate appraisal of the impact of that transfer.

When will Rate My Team be available?
We’re looking to roll out the Rate My Team tool for our members on January 1.

    Is this hit worth it?

    Aguero, Sessegnon + Michu --> Hernandez, Bale + Cazorla/Mata (-4)

I bought Michu for 7.6mil, I have no Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal coverage and I also own Silva and RVP, thoughts?

Would you rather have Cazorla or Walcott in your team, assuming you can afford either? It seems an obvious question on the surface but considering Walcott's price and differential factor, does he make a case for himself?

It's a 50-50. One of Aguero & Tevez will certainly be dropped with Dzeko starting. Neither are on great form.

I realize your problem is that you don't like the alternatives much either. I had suggest Aguero->Berba, and mind you I'm not even a Berba fan.

Use this money to upgrade the midfield.

Any of the 3 are top priority to get out. Ridgewell because he frees up 5m, Shorey because he doesn't seem to be playing, and Clichy with his mysterious knock and other LB competition. Maybe get rid of Ridgewell as you wouldn't want him playing at Old Trafford anyway and give you 5.2m to spend on a replacement.

I don't even want to do Silva->Mata on a free trade...For a hit, definitely not.

Chelsea's next 4 fixtures aren't that great with the exception of QPR(H) for which I think Mata will be rested.

If you want a Chelsea player, take a punt with Hazard instead.

If you do you have to be prepared for Mata ro receive a rest either at Everton or home to QPR. He is in superb form but due a rest.

I am about to press the button on De Gea, Cameron and Yaya Toure OUT to Federici, DEF 4.2M or less and Mata for - 4.

De Gea could be dropped, Cameron is suspended, and Yaya is off to Africa in a few weeks.

I understand the risk that Mata will be rested but long term bringing him back in after selling him a few weeks ago for Gareth Bale is just what I need to do - he's the most in form midfielder in the league and makes Chelsea tick. Like Pratik says below I could wait 4-5 weeks after Chelsea's fixtures improve but by then he could be 9.9m or 10m.

Just had a look at Norwich fixtures post GW24, in the interest of GK partnerships. If Ruddy is back by then, you could pair him with a So'ton keeper, and get this run:

TOT, qpr, FUL, EVE, ***QPR***, SOT, sun, wig, SWA, ***WHU***, RDG, sto/***WBA***, AVL, WBA, ***STO***

Those in asterisks are Southampton fixtures, and it's only necessary for 3 weeks, possibly 4. Given Norwich's defensive form with Ruddy in goal, it looks pretty inviting to me; it could potentially provide excellent value for those wanting a budget option. A potential problem, though, is the uncertainty around the Saints' keeping position, though that situation may become clearer over the coming weeks.

Currently have Begovic & Foster, and Begovic has more than held guard whilst Foster has been injured, which makes me wonder if I can shave cash in the January WC by downgrading Foster. Bunn seems to be the choice of many people's plans on here, although Bunn doesn't convince me if you look Norwich's record of clean sheets since Ruddy has been injured.

I would either go with Bunn and play Begovic every week and hope they stay solid at the back, or get Ruddy and play Begovic until rotation becomes a possibility when Ruddy comes back from injury.

It must be said that Begovic and Foster are a great rotation.

Once I wildcard, I don't want to muddle much with my goalkeepers and defence after I have wildcarded for the rest of the season as points are to be made transferring in/out big hitters in midfield and forwards in my opinion.

What are your thoughts on this?

Though top 10k is more likely. The higher you climb, the harder it gets.

Cheers, need to iron out some silly mistakes. Think I'm going to play safe, bring consistent players back (eg Ba) and above all else, stop rotating Begovic!

Still a possible target? Sure. Inside 10K might be more realistic ... but a person can make big moves in the second half, as casuals drop out due to poor performances. Keep your focus, play your game, and you should see steady improvement.

Was thinking of jumping on the wagon and drafting in bale but now his price has risen dunno what to do with my team as the original plan was

pienar out bale in and tevez out Hernandez in

Or concentrate on replacing Robson kanu and getting arsenal coverage?

Or can anyone suggest any other options, have a free transfer banked too.

    A) Aguero

    B) Suarez

Currently have Aguero, and I'm not sure about dropping him really. Keep or Sell?
