Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Pottered

Tony Pulis will need to reshuffle his defensive options after two of Stoke’s regular back-four fell foul of the referee’s wrath against Liverpool in Boxing Day. Ryan Shawcross and Geoff Cameron will now sit out the Potters’ home clash against Southampton after accruing their fifth cautions of the campaign in Wednesday’s 3-1 win:

The duo are two of four players who are set to serve an automatic one-match ban in Gameweek 20. Villa’s Fabian Delph and Newcastle centre-half Mike Williamson are also sidelined against Wigan and Arsenal respectively.

While those four are unavailable, a quartet of new protagonists appeared on the Suspension Tightrope after receiving their fourth cautions of the campaign in midweek. Yaya Toure, Bradley Johnson, Jean Beausejour and Maynor Figueroa will all need to be on their best behaviour this upcoming weekend, as will 27 other players, including the likes of Robin Van Persie, Michu, Gareth Bale, Jermain Defoe, Adel Taarabt and Kevin Nolan; once Gameweek 20 is out the way, though, the limit is then extended to 10 yellows. So far, a quartet on players lead the race for that dubious honour – Luis Suarez, James Perch, Craig Gardner and Angel Rangel all have seven bookings apiece.

Both Darron Gibson and Carlton Cole are available this weekend, however. The FA have overturned three-match bans handed out to the pair in West Ham’s Gameweek 18 home clash with Everton – good news for those Fantasy managers eyeing up Cole as a possible double Gameweek punt; the 4.9 priced forward has produced two goals, an assist and six bonus points in four games since deputising for the injured Andy Carroll.

Elsewhere, Cheick Tiote returns for Newcastle’s trip to Arsenal after sitting out their 4-3 defeat at Old Trafford, while Marouane Fellaini serves the final fixture of his three-match ban as Everton welcome Chelsea to Goodison Park.

Walcott (c) is something that is beginning to tempt me... 2.7% ownership. Hmm, but which Newcastle will turn up?

RVP is the obvious choice, and is guaranteed to play... the way I see it, three things can happen...

1 - They both score the same/similar amount of points and it's much ado about f**k all...
2 - Theo pulls a brace/hattrick out of his ass and hoovers up bps while RVP struggles with a 2 pointer and I go absolutely wild as I fly up the rankings...
3 - Theo gets hauled off in 59 mins with a YC to his name after an invisible performance, while RVP scores a hattrick, and I'm left to consider my preferred method for killing myself...

Obviously these are ridiculous extremes, but I like to use them to emphasize my point...

      Go for Walcott.

RVP didnt look that good against NC. Though he scored and assisted

If you're falling back with your rank, go for Walcott. If you're satisfied and want to jump up slowly, RVP is the way to go. It's simple, yet we need to be told. 😉

      RVP(C), Walcott(VC) at the moment.
I agree with AK, if you need a big jump from your current rank, captain Walcott might pay off. If you're holding a lead, go for the safe choice RVP.

    Bego (Foster)
    Cameron Baines Clyne Shorey Cuellar
    Fella Michu Cazorla Bale Sterling
    Rvp Ba Dzeko*

    * It was a bad buy, but i thought whe would score a brace against Reading.

I can't see Rvp scoring against Wba, Michu is a doubt, etc..

Now that we are halfway through the season, we can make a case now for a forward line of Ba, RVP and Defoe.

This gives us The Big Three in midfield with Michu and Fellaini.

      So, no, was the answer.

I brought Dzeko in because i thought he was gonna do something, but it was a stupid transfer.

            Barfa---Ba/Cisse--Marveaux

In your case, I wouldn't DEFINITELY risk him. Could be absolute gold.

No one really knows. He was only supposed to be out for a month or so, but I haven't heard any mention of a come back date. But even with Barfa back, marveaux could keep his place in the team as CAM (in place of cabeye).

Yes, but I have this idea in my mind that you'll try harder against Arsenal, because in the past they have been seen as a weak team.

It's probably just me doubting myself though...

For those of you looking at marveaux. Be aware that Marveaux played really well against wigan, but was then dropped straight away. He SHOULD get a run in the team, even when barfa gets back, and he will be gold if he does BUT pardiola doesn't fancy him, and he could be dropped at any moment, so only do the transfer if he would be your 5th midfielder, who allows you to afford the big hitters you want, and who you would only call on in emergencies, and wouldn't expect many points from.

I am leading my monthly ML by 15 points with 1GW to play....the two guys behind me both have cazorla.

So is it wise to do silva >> cazorla just to mirror them and win the monthly prize. If it wasn't for them, my initial plan was to do rafael >> sagna.

but with the amount of chances he has he should still do well even if he misses too much. and if he ever has a good game where he can actually shoot then he could get a brace or hattrick. plus he chips in with the odd assist. 11 goals and 4 assists so far aint bad imo

Any idea how to get Bale, Mata, Cazorla/Walcott, Fellaini, Michu and Nolan into the same m/f?

    Which two would you drop?

ummm good luck having 6 mids. and to do that you'll need a cheap 3rd striker and a cheap df

btw did you see the most recent post on the council site?

Drop Nolan. Hes out of form.

        I would keep only Walcott.

You got 5 mids by doing that

OK we're half way through the season, and it's been an awful one for me...

I'm curious to see how everyone has got on with their captaincy choice, and how much that truly reflects their overall position...

This requires a bit of time on your part so if you have the time to do it, that would be appreciated...

Add up all 19 scores (total scores) from your captain, then divide that total by 38 (its actually divide by 19, then divide by 2, but its easier to just do 38)... that will give you the average points haul of your captain's so far...

I'm hoping to see some correlation between that and overall rank...

My average captain score = 6.47...
    My overall rank = 350k

biggest thing for me has been a mixture of luck, not taking hits, having the right mids for a few big scores and Demba Ba...oh and getting jammy with defence early on.

      Overall points = 1,017

      (270/1017) x 100% = 26.5% of my points came from captains.

Lot of guys thinking to ship Ars and Wham players after the DGW and use the WC.

I dont think this is a fair point

I would be playing 5 during DGW with Jask,Demel, Cole, Walcott already in my team.
Would be bringing Gibbs during GW 22 week for my WC

All 5 would stay my team for long or else i can use 1 transfer to ship Cole out.

My WC team starting GW 22 would be :

    Jask, Ming
    Davies,Naugton, Demel, Cuellar, Gibbs
    Bale,Mata, Walcott, Sess/Fell, Michu
    Cole, Suarez, RVP

Hows this looking for a balanced team for rest of the season.
If City start performing will get one of City players for either Suarez. Thats one place i think will be judged on form. Either Torres/Defoe/Ba/Tevez

    Any thoughts

Yeah, using the WC in GW24 to ship out the DGW players from the previous week seems silly to me. Both Arsenal and West Ham still have decent fixtures (great in Arsenal's case) for a few weeks after the DGW. Not saying that GW24 is a bad week for the WC, just not for the reason above...

    What up dudes!

Thinking Silva to either Santi or Walcott this week for free transfer. Santi is obv the more secure option, but Walcott cheaper and even though the hatrick i'd say the more explose one. Going with Walcott would let me upgrade Nelsen to Gibs/Sagna before the DGW.

    Bego McCarthy
    Enrique Nelsen Davies Demel Cuellar
    Silva Bale Michu Taarabt Sterling
    RVP Suarez Aguero

    Thoughts?

So I'm left in purgatory until when?

I survived relegation but didn't qualify for Europe... mid table mediocrity...

I'm neither here nor there... 🙁

well season 2 of the leagues (which you are in cuz you didn't get relegated) start gw 20 so I guess you're left in purgatory until the 29th?

and there's still a chance you can qualify for CL or Europa if you read the rules (need to be changed a bit but the european qualification thing still stands): http://uefacouncil.wordpress.com/league-rules/

Ah brilliant, I thought it was only UCL and Europa that ran on those dates...

So the qualifying managers have 2 h2hs each week, until they get knocked out?
