The Numbers Game – Festive Form – Defenders

Continuing our round-up of the Christmas period, it’s time to treat our members to a series of articles which examines each of the positions and analyses the form of the key protagonists over the past four Gameweeks. We start in defence, by casting an eye over the top tens for our ICT Index, plus a more in-depth look at the main performers in terms of goal threat and creativity….

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Russel Martin a good choice for this week, Newcastle have close to 0 attacking threat (only first team players playing Krul, Debuchy, Anita, Tiote).

On an unrelated note, Fox Soccer Channel here in the States is showing classic FA Cup match highlights and is currently showing the team that made me fall in love with this game when I was living abroad -- Middlesborough helmed by the stoic Brian Robson and featuring the motley crew of Juninho, Ravanelli, Emerson, Mikkel Beck, and Gianluca Festa. They were so brutally unlucky...

No... will Clyne be back? Wait on that news. You have a team that can get you through with ease (well, with a few worries).

Why would you want to wc coz of your defence? The crappest players seem to score a bucket load at the most improbable times...

I'm thinking I'm not going to WC. For -4 I can have this squad, sets me up nicely for both DGW

    Turnbull (Begovic)

    Luiz - Gibbs - Demel (B.Davies, Cameron)

    Mata (c) - Walcott - Bale - Michu (Sterling)

RVP (vc) - Suarez - Berba

    Solid? 0.1m in the bank.

      Definitely no need to WC.

I can't see the need to get in any S'oton player for a hit, I can't see more than 8 points coming for anyone.

Tempted to do Sterling > Joe Cole as well?

Looking at your team, it makes sense I guess. Silva, Vert, Sterling, Defoe, Mert (if still ill) and Cuellar can all go. WCing for me would be a waste at this point I think. Would rather use it after the DGWs to sort out my defence.

Benitez wants Ivanovic on the center. Azpilicueta will remain the most used right-back, but he'll surely be rested from time to time. The question, how often, is I guess only known to Benitez, and you know how the guy is...

I agree its a crapshoot when investing. That is why I would suggest going for options you would want long term as well rather than making punts on players who may not even play. And I dont think he will rest his main guys so easilly anymore. More likely a early benching than a start on the bench for guys like Mata and Hazard. The Swansea cup game lineup should help us decide as well.

To get all my WC targets and DGW players, I must lose money by selling either:

    A) Michu (bought at 6.5 on gw1)
    B) Suarez (bought at 9.4)
    C) Sell no-one

Both have tough fixtures for several GWs

TOugh to bench one of big 5 as has been said endlessly and no problem to swap one or two in and out as they come in and out of form anyway. A couple of decent defenders on the pitch would improve your team more than one of the big 5 or a quality striker on the bench IMO

doing the same but my defence is

      Sagna Collins Demel Davies Mariappa

not the best but will do (especially for dgw's)

The hit will be 1 of 3 in 2 GW's. I only doubt it, coz 12 points seems like a lot. Guess it's fine if it's a double GW, so it's like a 6 point hit with potential ;).

    *** SHAMELESS REPOST*******

Guys what will i do? Have two wildcards left and current side is this.

    Bego/McCarthy
    Sagna Nelsen Nastasic Cuellar Mccartney
    Mata Silva Bale Cazorla Puncheon
    Rvp Benteke Berba

Happy with my strikeforce, and Have Caz and Sagna for 23 if I just spend 4 this week I could do Hazard and Azpilicueta in for Nastasic and Silva, which would leave me Mata Haz and Azpi. Then 23 Haz to Walcott and use the winter wildcard after that?

    Any suggestions??

Nigh on impossible to get a response round here today!!
