Moving Target

Moving Target – Danny Graham

Hull City boss Steve Bruce added to his forward options late last week by acquiring Danny Graham on a season-long loan deal from Sunderland. The former Swansea man is the club’s seventh signing of the summer and follows the likes of Allan McGregor, Curtis Davies, Maynor Figueroa and Ahmed Elmohamady to the KC Stadium as The Tigers prepare for life back in the Premier League.

Having fallen out of favour under Paolo Di Canio after just six months at Sunderland, Graham’s security of game time looks set for a significant increase in the season ahead. Judging by his new manager’s comments, it’s clear that Bruce – who has an option to make the deal permanent at the end of 2013/14 – is a huge fan of the 27-year-old:

Of the promoted teams, who do you think will do well?

Holloway likes to play in a hung-ho fashion. I can see Palace perhaps scoring a few ala Blackpool a couple of years ago. Gayle could be a good punt because of this. 6mil for a striker is a fair bit for Palace, so there must be something about him. Parr is also a good shout. Sometimes plays on the left wing. However, due to this I reckon they'll concede more than the other 2 (Hull & Cardiff) and thus may stink like a stone...

Bruce is a bit dull in my opinion. However, his teams can be quite sturdy at the back. Chester hence looks a solid pick. I'm surprised Hobbs isn't given more game time. He had a bad injury last year but he's a great defender, strong in the tackle, good in the air. Him and Chester could form a great partnership but it doesn't look likely to happen. Graham could be great up top but who is gonna supply him? Quinn can be a bit of a terrier but Hull's supply looks weak to me, which is why I think Graham will fall flat.

Cardiff have the most talented manager of the 3. His defense is sturdy and there are some creative players in his side (Kim, Bellamy, Cowie, Mutch, Whittingham). I think they'll do better than the other 2. Probably sturdier at the back (though i can't see why Marshall beats Lewis in goal) and with more going forward. Cornelius could be a diamond.

In a nutshell, I'd get Cardiff players in over the other 2, followed by Palace attacking assists. Probably stay clear of Hull.
