Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII – Third Round Draw

With little time for turnaround between Gameweeks, we roll out the Round 2 results and Round 3 Draw of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup VII, sponsored by Paddy Power, this evening. Before we look at the remaining contenders for the crown, those taking part should note that these ties take place over Gameweek 15 – the Gameweek 14 midweek matches do not count towards your tally:

Our defending champion Wild Rover seems to have risen to the occasion and, having climbed the rankings in the last couple of weeks, now faces Hillbillypete for a place in the Fourth Round. Wild Rover is one of only three previous Scout Cup winners still remaining; GoonerDave goes up against Mufcste55 – the latter is the favourite here, sitting just outside the top 10,000 – whilst sleepingmaster pits his wits against bigfourleggedbeast.

Mark’s podcast co-host and Champions League tipster Granville swept aside Dullardinho last weekend and now faces The Upper Deckers, who sits just inside the top 1 million. Gaz Downright – who tops the Contributors and Moderators league – is up against 2ndMan, whilst fellow moderators applebonkers and Ryan have been drawn against ste2510 and Bedknobs and Boomsticks respectively.

Amongst the community members still in with a shout, Tommy Tynan’s Left Shin Pad takes on Jafooli, The Sarjeant faces Isacki, EpicFAIL has been drawn against The Shadow and Daniel plays host to The Flying Nugget.

Giuliop11 may well be considered the favourite for the title. Sitting in 164th spot overall, he’s the man to avoid – Ferenc55 stands in his way of a Fourth Round spot.

As usual, we name-check the highest scoring winner from the previous round. Realunitedfc takes the honour, after racking up 90 points in Gameweek 13 – now up to around the 17,000-mark, he swaggers into the next fixture against bcdahm.

If you fancy a glance back at the Round 2 results, click here or if you are awaiting the fixture list for the next batch of head-to-head, the draw for the Third Round is available here.

As always, good luck to those still in with a shout of the silverware.

    Current back line is

    Migs davis
    Terry Coleman Vlaar Gabbidon burner.

I have 1.7 in the bank.

Looking at the fixtures I plan on doing Migs to Howard after next 2 GWs, is Coleman to Walker worth a shout for spurs great run?

Yes after the next 2 gameweeks. Liverpool's fixtures are tot CAR mun ARS whereas Everton's are FUL swa SUN STO and very good for the rest of the season.

In regards to the Walker (ful sun LIV sot WBA STO) v Coleman (mun ars FUL swa SUN SOT).

I could alos do Vlaar to Walker straight swap and play Terry Coleman Walker at the back with Burner and Gabbidon as reserves.

Hey guys, can I get a look over? Really need a couple of solid game weeks, went from 180,000 to almost 700,00 in the last two. Here's my team as it sits:

    Pantilimon (Boruc)

    Dawson Lovren Mert (Gabbidon, Whittaker)

    Y. Toure Coutinho Ramsey Lallana (Morrison)

    Aguero Giroud Suarez (c)

    1.4 in the bank. Thoughts?

If just Rooney rises my transfer plans are a little fecked.

This is how my team stands with 2FT and a hefty 0.1m in the kitty...

    Mignolet (NOR)

    Williams(NEW) Dawson(ful) Ward(WHU)

    Ramsey(HUL) Ozil(HUL) Oscar(sun) Ravel(cry)

    Suarez(NOR) Rooney(EVE) Aguero(wba)

    Subs: Harper, Brady, Collins, Vlaar

I feel like I have to do something! even if it is Harper>Gazz?!? Hah

What do people think about Oscar>Gerard/Couthino??

So Wally got 20 odd minutes vs Soton.. Would have come on early vs Cardiff but wenger decided to tighten up, played 15 odd minutes in the UCL(did he? cant remember).. Been in first team training for 3 weeks now. It's not a question of whether he's fit.. he is.. it's a question of whether Wenger wants to change his team at the moment.. Sure he may play if he decides to give someone a rest but is he first choice anymore? That is the question

The "no wingers" system has been working pretty well for us lately. Midfield is really packed which bodes well for us defensively. I don't really think this system will change while Arsenal are winning tbh.

But Ozil could really do with some proper wide players right now. If the Sunderland game is any indication, the Ozil-Walcott connection will be electric.

That's the thing SJ. Arsenal is a team of creators without dedicated receivers right now. Much of the time we're passing we're crying out for someone to make the run to threaten the goal. With Giroud quiet, Ramsey and Wilshere have been stepping up to provide the goals. You can see from the 3 one on ones Ozil created for Walcott in the Sunderland game that he is tailor made for this team.

It's a risky punt, but potentially an insanely profitable one.

I agree with this.. their lack of an outlet became obvious in the manu game.. They were literally crying out for a player like walcott. He's definitely one of my favorite fpl players.. Gonna be a last second decision between him and Gerrard for me

So much points to Cout over Hazard though. Hazard's actually playing pretty crap in real life, even his points are jammy - Coutinho's playing really well (not quite mastered the jamminess yet though). Coutinho's got great fixtures, Hazard doesn't. This week it's Coutinho at home to Norwich (think the Luis Suarez show) and Hazard away to Sunderland (think Sunderland 1 - 0 Man City)

Hazard's spot is pretty safe. The only time he didn't start was GW7.

Yeah Coutinho has the better fixture but we all know what Hazard can do (jamminess aside).

Yeah, Hazard is definitely one of the safest of the lot, though Mou did say he was going to rotate the squad so if that's even more than usual, who knows.

Hazard was insane at times last season but the system was different, he didn't have as much defensive responsibility. I think Mourinho has shackled his attacking three with defensive responsibility and that's why they haven't resembled the one of last season. I remember Mata and Hazard combining brilliantly against some poor little team last season, but that was then.

Say Wally starts one of the two Home games(Hull/Everton) and comes off the bench for the other.. would you mind? Considerin most fpl players will be rotated i dont think i do tbh.. it does seem very short term though, almost like we want the thrill of his points vs Hull/Everton just so we can say "We owned him".. 3 away games in 4 after that withing 2 weeks of each other which means he wont be startin as often as we'd like compared to a guy like gerrard/hazard(though wally can outscore their 5 week totals in one week)

Yeah this is the calculation I'm considering.

I think he's very likely to start against Hull (let me hold my hands up this is a screwup if he doesn't) and 50/50 to start against Everton as Wenger looks to continue his gametime in the team prior to playing mci CHE.

If he gets 70/30 mins in those two fixtures I think I'd be fine.

Bear in mind we don't need to own Walcott forever - it can be a punt that we make and see if it works out. We hop off after HUL/EVE if it goes badly.

His competitors just aren't consistent enough to rule him out.

I actually think he'll start againt Hull tbh. However the fact Wenger brought him on only for 4 minutes last weekend doesn't look too good.

Le Prof did say that he would take it easy with Feo.

From watching the Cardiff game, you could see Walcott was warming up around 70 minutes but wasn't brought on because we were only winning 1-0 and Wenger brought on defensive subs instead to kill off the game. When we killed off the game going 2-0 up the break, he brought Walcott on by which time it was 89'.

This is my thinking.. apart from Murner and Rosenior i dont have many fixes to do for my team so might as well take a 2 week punt and decide where to go from there.. May have been 5 minutes vs Cardiff but the thrill walcott gave me watching him was = to 90 mins of watching gerrard(who is the alternative i'm considerin)

I would disagree. Arsenal is a team of creators WITH plenty of receivers and it's working quite well. It's just a really dynamic free form formation and that allows everyone to be everywhere. Doesn't seem to be any problem with their results so what's there to fix? It will be interesting to see if Walcott can fit back into that when he does start.

Generally we're doing well - though you can point to the United game as an example where we needed a direct goal threat, at least in the second half where we regained our passing but lacked penetration. Cazorla and Ozil like to create and generally have assumed those roles, Wilshere has only just found his scoring touch which is welcome. The problem is that our direct goal threat, Giroud has been too easily kept quiet.

Watch the Marseille and United games to see what I'm getting at.

yeah, I agree. I think Giroud is sometimes the problem and would love to see Walcott played up front, just not sure Wenger will do that again. I think that would be the best way to address the more direct goal threat. Butmy only worry with Walcott up front is he can sometimes have the same finishing issues as Giroud and can't really play the hold up role.

Giroud makes Arsenal tick offensively. I mean it.

His link up play is essential to Arsenal's play this season.

Yeah agreed on all points, funny how most Arsenal fans come to the same conclusions about the team 🙂 Wally is a real confidence, feast-or-famine striker who either turns all his shots into gold or sh*t 😆

That really is Giroud's main asset, his creation. Brings a lot to the team despite lacking pace and threat and that's why our relationship with him will always be a mixture of admiration and frustration!

One of the weirdest threads i've been part of on this site.. A proper discussion on Arsenal's system and how wally will fit in with a crazy scyzophrenic rant/fight sandwiched in between 🙂 .. i really hope this does not get hot topic-ed as a wally discussion as i dont want the forca shenanigans to leave the DZ. It's going to be very tricky predicting Arsenal's midfield over the next few weeks. Basically all of Ramsey, Ozil, Walcott, Cazorla, Wilshere, Arteta, Flamini, Rosicky are fit now (which is kind of unprecedented for them)

rotation minefield there.. dont mind ramsey being benched cause of his pricepoint and ownership.. but wally being benched too often will hurt especially as gerrard is the alternative. I just know that 5 minutes b4 deadline i' wont be able to stop myself from taking a wally punt though

I mean Chelsea are not keeping CS, fixtures good for Spurs too, Walker nailed on and on free kicks & corners

After all, Terry wont score in every match

Taking injury's and short term form aside, what is Arsenal's strongest line up when everyone is available?

Giroud up top, Ozil flanked by Cazorla and Walcott with Ramsey and Arteta in behind? Or is Walcott, Cazorla and Ramsey going to take game time off each other long term?

    Regarding Ramsey...

I'm thinking that he's more or less reached saturation point. By this I mean that with such high ownership, and taking into account the fact that there are many inactive managers, how much further can his price rise?

I wonder if this has happened before in FPL?

I see a lot of teams with both Walcott and Ramsey. I think Walcott will have a much better 2nd half to the season than Ramsey, but I bet people will be reluctant to part with Ramsey particularly if they got him before his price rocketed. If he starts playing deeper his returns will surely dry up?

Its just annoying buying a player who will make no difference to my team. When he doesn't score I generally do far better than everyone else. He has actually blanked just as many times as he has scored points 7-7. Its just unfortunate that when he does score he scores big - 5 of the 7 has been double figure returns.
