Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Devilish

The visit of former club Everton proved crucial for all the wrong reasons last night as Wayne Rooney toppled off the Suspension Tightrope. United’s main man delivered no more than a yellow card for his growing legion of Fantasy owners and subsequently earned himself a one-match ban, having picked up five cautions for the campaign:

Rooney now misses Saturday’s home game with Newcastle as David Moyes attempts to recover from the defeat to his former club and with Robin Van Persie still a real doubt, the United boss has plenty of issues up top against the Magpies.

Jonas Olsson is also set for the weekend off as West Brom prepare to welcome Norwich to The Hawthorns. The Baggies centre-half also earned his fifth booking of the season in last night’s home loss to City – an ever-present this term for the midlands outfit, his absence is set to give Diego Lugano or Craig Dawson a rare start alongside Gareth McAuley at centre-half.

West Ham’s Ravel Morrison also sits on the naughty step this weekend as his side head to Anfield. The former United midfielder picked up his fifth yellow for pushing Palace’s Joel Ward in the face in Tuesday evening’s loss at Selhurst Park – his owners will at least be relieved to hear Morrison will receive no further punishment for his behaviour and is available for the Gameweek 16 clash against Sunderland.

Two players clamber onto this week’s Suspension Tightrope after picking up their fourth cautions of the season. The culpable duo in question are Southampton’s Jose Fonte and Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback – if they collect another yellow in the next six Gameweeks, they will trigger the automatic one-match ban. Newcastle’s Mathieu Debuchy now moves onto six bookings after falling foul of the referee’s wrath in last night’s defeat at Swansea.

Elsewhere, Palace winger Yannick Bolasie serves the last of a three-match ban at home to Cardiff this Saturday. In terms of returns, Hull welcome back Curtis Davies for their trip to Swansea after the centre-half missed last night’s 2-0 loss at the Emirates, while West Brom’s Youssouf Mulumbu and United’s Phil Jones are also available for home games against Norwich and Newcastle respectively.

That's a bit wishywashy. Nothing to signal that Barkley will turn it around soon. The lad has skills, but there's just something missing. Something with his focus. Not sure I can put my finger on it.

Why is there so much talk of getting rid of Rooney? He's banned for one game. 1 game!
    Next 4 are: Avl (a) Whu (h) Hull (a) Nor (h)

Based on fixtures, I'd be more tmepted to lose Aguero over Rooney.
    What say you?

If RVP is back in the team soon, it could well affect Rooney's points returns. Plus, United aren't playing as well as City at the moment.

For me it comes down to which is the better combination: Rooney + Lallana, or Lukaku + Hazard?

haha whether rvp will affect rooney remains to be seen although definitely rvp will share freekick n peno..we can see that rooney is scoring points despite united not doing well. and personally i feel tt it depends on how to spread the cash arnd..finding an inform hazard+lukaku cfm will win any combo..but ventongen+lukaku and ward+rooney may not have that much difference alr

So you're bringing in Hazard, fair enough. Really want to risk bringing in Lampard who could be potentially benched for a hit when you already have Chelsea cover? Just play Cabaye or someone else over Ravel and leave him on your bench.

Another Villa voice here. I don't see why we should write off Villa clean sheets. We still have favourable fixtures and the team were excellent until we had to replace Vlaar with Lowton at CB for the 2nd half.

If Vlaar returns to fitness, he's a great value option in my opinion.

I was at St Marys last night and Villa were completely outplayed and lucky not to be 3 nil down in 20 mins. You mugged Saints with 3 break away goals and your strategy worked. Having seen you play though I would not recommend a defender from Villa.

Afternoon chaps. Anyone else thinking about dropping Ozil for Hazard for the next few weeks?

Thinking about using my two frees this week to also ship Yanga for Ward, to give me:

    Mignolet
    Walker Ward Johnson
    Hazard Ramsey Sess Brady
    Aguero Suarez Lukaku

Camp Koscielny Rat Dikgacoi (1.4m in the bank)

Any thoughts? Or should I maybe sort out the big white elephant on the bench that is Dikgacoi, instead of Yanga? Would allow me to bench Brady this week instead, if I played Koscielny.

    Muchas gracias amigos...

Yeah I get ya. So I guess Yanga is the priority, since he's not playing.

I guess the alternative is to hang onto Ozil this week and do Yanga and Dikgacoi -> Ward and [Pozuelo/Bannan/Kacaniklic/A.N. Other]

After some thinking I think I've narrowed it to Brady-> Bannan or Clyne -> Chester and Nasri -> Hazard

I planned to get Hazard this week but Nasri's two goals lured me into a false sense of assurance!!

Resulted in Red Arrows galore from a score of 93.... Who'd have thunk it!!

what sort of rank did you set your sights on at the start of the season?

I finished outside the top 400k in my first season so i hoped to half it this year. Had a good run so i moved my sights to the top 100k, then again to top 50k.

Id be very happy if i can maintain that, but it all comes down to your personal target i guess.

If Baines was fit, it would be pretty norty having a Suarez, Negrado, Lukaku front 3, allowing for not only a 3 big hitting mid midfield (Hazard, Gerrard, Silva/Walcott), but a defence of Evra, Coleman, Baines. Could see that scoring very good points and quite differential. Of course all this is hypothetical.

Getting Lukaku this week is tricky. Arsenal have been a lot tighter than I have been used to; the passing game protects us, our pressing is underrated, and Mert and Kos have been in very good form. Not as many errors as last year. Are Everton the sort of team that could ruin our clean sheet or more? They do kind of play our game and have a beast up front to unsettle us physically, something which usually we don't take too well.

McCarthy and Barry are a solid base for Mirallas/Deulofeu, Barkley, Pienaar and Lukaku to attack from with freedom. Also they pose a lot of threat down the wings with Coleman and Baines/Oviedo, an area where I think we could be vulnerable with our wingers not being good defenders.

      There is a wc 😛

It may be a week premature, but there is no point holding Rooney through a blank week only to sell him the week after. sell him now, or don't sell him at all.

    @ Scotty's Army

    a) Look at Lukaku's fixtures, they're good till pretty much the end of the wc window, then you'll be able to re-asses

    b) I'm also considering a Hazard, Lampard double-up. Lamps is one of Jose's faves and I agree with the points Isacki made about his rests, the CL is done for Chelsea until Feb/March as they won their group. Plus if you have both, you're pretty much covered for Chelsea set-pieces

      not a bad shout.
lampard resurgence more to do with formation change than champs league rests in my opinion. i don't think he will play every fixture over Crimbo.

Cool interesting, so what are they playing now? A 4-3-3 with Lampard as the most advanced midfielder? Seems to change from week to week

I just made moves yesterday to do the Lamps and Hazard double-up. Am stoked about it, especially against Stoke. Crystal Palace to follow as well.

Had a falling out with Moyes.

RVP suggested that Moyes buy some hair dye as he doesn't like ginger hair. It didn't go down too well.

Are the Team News getting updated right now? There's nothing on Swansea and Alvaro in the likely lineup.

Just done Brady and Rooney out for Romelu and Stevie G. My thinking is while its hard to part with Roo, having SAR not only makes budgeting elsewhere difficult, you're gonna be placing the armband on Suarez or Aguero more often, meaning Roo's an expensive option to have if Utd blank, which will probably happen more often than City and Pool in my opinion
