Scout Notes – Gameweek 15 – Monday

Michu recovers from injury and manages the full 90 minutes in Swansea’s home draw against Hull. Chico nets for the hosts but is set to miss out miss weekend through suspension, Michel Vorm is likely to require knee surgery, while Robbie Brady warms the Tigers bench as Danny Graham opens his account for the season against his former club:

Michu Back in the Mix
The Spaniard made a surprise return to action last night, having been expected to be sidelined until mid-December. Pre-match, his manager admitted Michu was not yet 100% but still managed to give him the full 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw – given his lack of match-sharpness, his blank against the Tigers was perhaps understandable but it now means he has failed to score in each of his last six league starts for the Swans. Now down to a mere 6% ownership in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and coming in at 8.5, some may still be tempted, but a look at the fixture ticker indicates Swansea have it far from easy over the next few matches – Everton, Chelsea, City, United and Spurs in the next seven suggests last season’s Fantasy phenomenon may well toil to get amongst the goals anytime soon.

Earlier in the day, reports had suggested Wilfried Bony was set to make an appearance from the bench after also recovering quickly from a hamstring injury but Michael Laudrup admitted after the match he’s likely to be a little cautious with the Ivorian:

“Bony is a little better, but we have to be careful because we are talking about a muscle injury. With a muscle injury, if you come back one day too early, you could have a setback and be out for four weeks. We don’t want that.”

Defensive Setbacks for Swans
With three clean sheets in their previous four at the Liberty, a shut-out looked a strong possibility for Swansea last night. Michel Vorm missed out again through an ongoing knee problem, allowing Gerhard Tremmel another chance between the sticks and, whilst the visitors’ early goal killed off the prospects off defensive returns, Chico’s owners were treated to a nine-point haul after the centre-half finally delivered the goal his attacking statistics have hinted at all season. The Spaniard picked up his fifth yellow card of the season late on, however, meaning he will now miss the weekend trip to Norwich. Ashley Williams moved onto the Suspension Tightrope after collecting his fourth booking of the campaign, whilst Laudrup admitted his goalkeeper is likely to require an operation to rectify his problem, though he’s yet to decide when this will take place:

“Michel’s knee is swollen, and he has had a scan today. He can go on, but I think at some point we will have to make a decision at a certain point that he needs surgery. We’re not talking a long period of absence – maybe four or five weeks, maybe a little less.”

Shelvey in the Points Again
Tucked in behind Michu as the most advanced central midfielder, the former Liverpool man supplied the assist for Chico’s equaliser to continue his impressive recent showings. Shelvey has begun to return attacking points at a fairly consistent rate now and has produced the goods in all but one of the last five Gameweeks – with two goals, three assists and three bonus points over that run, he was snapped up by over 161,000 Fantasy managers heading into the weekend deadline and, while his owners will be happy to hold in light of last night’s display, the above-mentioned schedule may be enough to deter many for now.

Brady Benched as Graham Returns to Haunt Swans
While the headlines surrounded Danny Graham’s early opener against his former club, a first goal of the season for the 5.0 priced forward is hardly going to attract Fantasy managers’ attentions. Instead, the omission of Robbie Brady from the Hull XI will have caused plenty consternation to the patient managers who have kept faith in the midfielder over the last few weeks. With Steve Bruce handing Maynor Figueroa the left wing-back role, Brady remained on the visitors’ bench for the entire 90 minutes of the 1-1 draw and now seems to have fallen out of favour due to a lack of form. Owned by 8.7% FPL managers (Liam Rosenior is the second most popular outfield player for Hull with 3.5%), the Republic of Ireland international has now failed to produce any points since Gameweek 6 and now looks set to be offloaded by plenty in light of last night’s non-appearance.

1FT and 1.3m in the bank.

    A) Myhill -> Howard (Marshall is other GK)
    B) Oscar -> Someone
    C) Ozil -> Someone

Essentially, happy enough with team for long-term, just facing a tough GW and looking for a way to use transfer.

    Marshall (Myhill)
    Coleman/Johnson/Coloccini (Baker/Clyne)
    Ozil/Ramsey/Hazard/Oscar/Fer
    Rooney/Suarez (Chamakh)

Save the transfer? Not moving on Ramsey (got him at 5.6) and hopeful Oscar will be back, but Ozil is an even transfer so I could lose him for a week if necessary.

    Thanks!

    My current team is:
    Mig (lewis)
    Coleman, Kosc, Chester (Luna, Chico)
    Ozil, Ramsey, Hazard, Morison (Banan)
    Aguero, Suarez, Rooney

I need to replace Chico and also willing to ship Mig.
Chico to Distin and Mig to Krul/Ruddy?

Not worth bombing out a defender though. 9/10 the max you'll get is 6 points. Def not worth a hit. Plus I can't see City v Arsenal being high scoring at all. 1-1.

So after finishing in the top 100 in Sky for a few seasons running i started this season terribly (all money into big hitting midfielders, ignoring Ramsey form etc) but finally after last night i have broken into the top 1000 sitting in 650 place. Going to be tough but i hope i can get into the top 100 again as i have paced myself well with transfers. I know most of you dont care but i feel the need to vent as my wife is bored of me lol.....

    My Messy Midfield:

    Cabaye (suspenders)
    Ramsey (rotation risk)
    Brady (bench fodder)
    Oscar (who knows)'
    Shelvey (Romford Pele)

I've taken the Forca approach to FPL and can do this:

I personally think he is. When everyone's fit, I think first choice is Walker - Vertonghen - Chiriches - Rose

Fans love him, AVB paid a lot for him and has done his easing-in period. I brought him in just in time for his goal and subsequent injury 🙁

I read a Romanian article yesterday suggesting that he wouldn't be back until GW18. Rose should be back then but Vertonghen won't be so the situation won't be clear for a while yet.

Probably. The article also said something along the lines of "English journalists wouldn't be surprised if he were rushed back for the Liverpool game because it's so important" but I don't think that makes a lot of sense. Most managers don't do that, regardless of how important the game is.

Monitor the situation is all I can say.

Which of these 3 would you bench this week and why?

    A) Ravel (SUN)
    B) Ramsey (mcy)
    C) Nasri (ARS)

Initially Ravel seems the logical bench player - WHU don't score many and are in poor form. However, with Nolan out I think Ravel could well play in the hole, and he's at home to a team with a goal difference of -18 this season.

Ramsey is the highest scoring mid in the game, but he looked tired on Sunday and could be due a rest (not saying this will be away at City mind). City are solid at home (3 cleanies in a row) so unfortunately I'm not sure we will score more than 1.

And then there's Nasri - attacking City midfielder at home should be an auto pick, but with Silva back could his gametime suffer?

Yeah, that's my thinking. Wenger needs a result mid week so there won't be much rotation, and then there's little time to recover for City away (toughest fixture on the calendar). Pretty risky given his ownership %, but I think it's probably the right call.

Let's see what happens with CL, but I would gravitate towards benching Ramsey.

Ravel has had a nice rest and will be playing close in behind the striker, and Nasri should start despite Silva's return. I personally think both Nasri and Ramsey will not play full games, probably 70minutes max.

Ramsey will start both games I reckon, hopefully not getting 90 versus Napoli. I wouldn't dare to bench him. I think go with logic, bench Ravel. I think with the form being what it is, Silva + Nasri is the two first in line. Navas is great off the bench with his pace.
