Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII – Semi Final Draw

We’re down to the last four managers in the Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII, sponsored by Paddy Power. Ahead of the next round of matches – which takes place in Gameweek 23, over next Tuesday and Wednesday’s matches – we take a look at the quartet who still harbour hopes of taking home the silverware.

Cunny Funts remains the favourite as we had into the final straight. Ranked at 688 overall, he saw off the challenge of YestheSess! in the quarter-finals and was the highest scoring manager to progress, with 71 points accrued in Gameweek 22. He’s up against Tdubb05 (36,120th overall), who racked up a 62-55 win over sim716 to make his way into the final four.

The pair have just five identical players – Seamus Coleman, Eden Hazard, Yaya Toure, Emmanuel Adebayor and Luis Suarez and both have made two transfers so far this week. Only Cunny Funts still has his wildcard left to play, though.

The other tie sees Ajax, with a rank of 23,489 overall, up against Tal, who currently sits in 57,457 in the rankings. Ajax is in the better form of the two – he outscored ec3dm by 60 points to 52 points to progress, whilst Tal booked him place in the semi-finals with a narrow 47-45 win over 11 Men in Flight.

Both managers have already played their wildcards, though intriguingly have just three of the same players – Suarez, Hazard and Adnan Januzaj – suggesting this one looks wide open.

As mentioned previously, it’s not just bragging rights on offer here – the top three will be rewarded for their exploits.

    Hi everyone,

    Please rate my wildcard team:

    Boruc (Davis)
    Mertesacker, Coleman, Vlaar, (Ward, Bruce)
    Hazard, Yaya, Cabaye. Eriksen (Noone)
    Suarez, Aguero, Sturridge.

I have 0.4 mill in the bank and I'm not too convinced on my cheap defenders. Should I downgrade Mert to Kol and upgrade Bruce?

    Thanks

I would downgrade merte to someone other than an Arsenal defender. They have very tricky fixtures coming up and you can pick up Kos for cheap in 6 weeks.

Now Man United have RVP, Rooney and Mata, but only 2 real positions to offer them. Unless he plays one of them on the wing...

This also pushes Fellaini and Kagawa further away from their preferred positions.

Sure Mata is a terrific player, but United need central defensive midfielders and defenders.

Fellani prefers playing at CM or CDM

Moyes was also at the Munich match, reportedly watching Bayern's Tony Kroos (CM) and he was seen sitting with his agent.

4231 for United would be a defensive catastrophe waiting to happen imo. They've don't even have one - let alone two - defensive midfielders to the work it requires.

sure, but that's ancient scripture by now - it was when he played him as CAM last season we all saw what Fellaini could really do

people assume that because he's so big that he's a good midfield enforcer, and overlook his amazing presence in the box and finishing skills

thats a good point, but if Fellani thinks he is a better defensive midfielder we have to assume he is right, because who knows him better than himself, maybe we just need to give him time to settle.

(I know I've been spamming on this page but this is my last post for the night, I'll read any replies that this gets tomorrow)

Really liking the look of this WC team atm:
    .
    .
    .
    Mannone - Adrian

    Kos - Azpi - Kolarov - Ward - Olsson

    Hazard - Yaya - Cazorla - AJ - Pozuelo

    Suarez - Aguero - Adebayor
    .
    .
    .
It's got a nice balance to it with room for punts such as Cazorla, AJ and Kolarov. I plan to downgrade Caz to Rambo when he's back and upgrade AJ to Lallana/Cabaye.

Well then, what does the DZ think?

Looks good, you have decent cover for Kolarov. My plan is to bring him in for Kos for Arsenal's tricky run as it should coincide neatly with DGW. Can you spare 0.1 for Noone over Poz? Think is.AJ will have a DGW, my plan is to downgrade Ramsey or Cabaye to him for it.

got 0.3 leeway in my ideal wc team so

    1) do we think Ozil will drop tonight? Ideally I want to wait until Tuesday and see if Mata starts

    2) Cabaye, Mata and Yaya. Rise by 0.3 between them before then?

If yes to both I may have to go Chester over Vlaar to save some cash. Am basically looking at who can cover Evans v Arsenal, Liverpool and his blank.

Will wait and see on how well Mata does before diving straight in. Yes he is proven class but so was Veron lol

If he goes on a run of scoring points he will become an option but who is to say he will, picking him ahead of the likes of Hazard and Toure before he has kicked a ball is silly i reckon.

I think that's the best plan. Get him, maybe try and cover off those 2 fixtures with the cheapies, then you have that run of 4. Then you sell for a City defender for DGW and buy back after that run ends

Well, I see sufficient complaints about it on here. Tell you the truth, I think I do better at the game when I don't pay attention to price rises. I have been caught up this season trying to stay ahead of price rises, etc, and I'm having a worse season than usual. Basically, chasing value too much can lead you down dark alleyways.

I just know when I didn't let it influence me much in the past, I had greater success. Of course, there could be any number of variables in there. Just think it can be dangerous if you over analyze things in that department, as I feel I have done this season. Team value takes care of itself if you are picking good enough players along the way.

For a non Aguerro side it's pretty good. I would downgrade your defence thoughPossibly Bards and Dawson > Ward and Bruce. Use the extra cash to upgrade either J.Rod to Tekkers/Luka/Remy etc… or AJ to Cabaye/Eriksen in a couple of weeks.

I'm seriously considering getting rid of Januzaj next week on the WC.

Fans I know IRL and on RedCafe both reckon he won't get much playing time when RVP and Rooney are fit. Competition to shrug off from Welbeck, Kagawa and Young.

With the blanks coming, I reckon we need a bit more predictability when it comes to the budget mids.

Ozil came out the gates pretty strong. Could've had more than 1 assist if teammates were better finishers. What he does that many people might be overlooking is set up a lot of Arsenal's attacking moves in general. He gets the ball rolling, so to speak and is craftier than most.

Would to play(1 only) and bench order out of:
    A) Coleman (if fit) away vs Liverpool
    B) Vlaar home vs West Brom
    C) Ward home vs Hull

Other defenders are Mert and Ivan.

Not where I'm from! I think West Ham will improve now that Demel and Reid are back.

I think so too. Considering keeping Ravel on my WC as I foresee an upturn in their fortunes with Carrol and Nolan back together.

Am going with B, feel that Southampton defense is good and best value. Free up funds to use further up the pitch.

Guys putting on an accumulator for tomorrow and was wondering if there was any championship experts which could give their opinion on a reading win away to Ipswich?

Evening. Loaded up on defense for my WC but Mata is really turning my head now. Wondering if shipping Coleman as I have Baines might be worth it, or if Navas to Mata is a clearer move.

    Boruc Davis
    Baines Coleman Kolarov Gabiddon Hudson
    Hazard Navas Wilshere Janujaz Gnabry
    Suarez Aguero Sturridge
FT, 1.5m, which was supposed to be for an upgrade to Ramsey or Eriksen

Assuming the weekend goes okay, no transfer this week, then

A -- Coleman and Wilshere to Demel (or another rotator) and Mata?
B -- Navas to Mata, save other FT?

    Thanks in advance.

I'd definitely ship one of your Eve defenders. Perhaps after GW 24.
Keep an eye on Mata this GW to see what's what but B looks good at some point.

Cheers. Navas has been a nice respite from the headache of owning Silva so far, but will look to move him in advance of gw28 anyway. Everton have a roller coaster of fixtures for the next six, and with the blanks in gw28, might be nice to have a few elite players. B might be the way to go.

I am waiting to pick him up for a couple of gameweeks, so that explains that post. Just having a little fun with it. I honestly don't think he's gonna go crazy, though, otherwise I would've picked him right up, like so many other people did.
