Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 33 – Monday

Emmanuel Adebayor bags a brace upon his return from injury as Spurs sweep aside sorry Sunderland. Christian Eriksen also runs riot with a goal and two assists, whilst Harry Kane turns in an impressive display on his first league start for the north London outfit:

Eriksen Tames the Black Cats
The Dane served up his second successive double-figure haul at White Hart Lane with another inspirational left-flank display last night. Eriksen’s last home game delivered 18 points against Southampton and he almost repeated the feat with a goal, two assists and maximum bonus helping him accrue 15 points in a comprehensive win over the basement-dwellers. Fielded on the left of a 4-3-1-2, with Nacer Chadli handed the central role behind a front two, the 4%-owned Eriksen made a mockery of his 6.6 price-tag and rewarded the 33,000+ Fantasy managers who snapped him up prior to the weekend deadline. Up next is a trip to West Brom, a side Eriksen has already produced a goal and maximum bonus against earlier this season, and with Fulham, West Ham, Stoke and Villa still to follow, his schedule suggests further investment is on the cards.

Adebayor Back with a Bang
Having missed the previous two Gameweeks with a heel injury, the Tottenham forward announced his return in style last night. Adebayor had dropped to less than 5% ownership but proved himself to be a vital differential by notching twice against Gus Poyet’s strugglers and delivering a 13 point return – he has now averaged 6.7 points per game in 15 outings under Tim Sherwood. Certainly, with double Gameweek forwards the main objects of our attentions this week, Adebayor may find it difficult to earn a space in our three-man frontlines, though a home game with Fulham in Gameweek 35 could well see the bandwagon pick up speed again.

Kane Vindicates Sherwood’s Show of Faith
With plenty of rumours flying around that Sherwood is set to be dismissed after the end of the season, the Spurs boss was in defiant mood prior to last night’s match. Sherwood is adamant his plans for the team won’t be influence by outside pressure, and with Roberto Soldado injured, he handed Harry Kane his first league start for the north London outfit. Whilst Eriksen and Adebayor understandably hogged the headlines, Kane marked his debut with a goal and, priced at just 4.4, could be a bargain if Sherwood retains him in the starting XI from here on in.

Johnson Returns to the Sunderland Starting XI
Having grabbed a goal and assist in his last two appearances as a sub, the midfielder’s owners were relieved to see him back in the Sunderland first-team for last night’s trip to the Lane. Johnson was moved to the role in “the hole” behind Fabio Borini in a 3-5-1-1 formation but, ironically, despite Poyet finally affording him the full 90 minutes, he failed to make any impact in a demoralising defeat. Considering he now has a double, Johnson’s owners will surely retain his services given that he’s back in Poyet’s plans, but bearing in mind next week’s matches are against in-form Everton and City, and with a game against Chelsea directly after, would-be suitors may wait until Gameweek 36 to assess his form – Sunderland than have a trio of home fixtures in the final three rounds of matches, including a double Gameweek 37.

Black Cats’ Resilience Slipping
Last night’s 5-1 mauling means Sunderland have now mustered a single clean sheet in their last seven matches in a run that has seen them concede 17 goals. At the back, John O’Shea was surprisingly dropped, Phil Bardsley and Marcos Alonso were again handed the wing-back roles before Poyet reverted to a 4-4-2 late on in a vain attempt to claw back the deficit, whilst Vito Mannone’s saves ensured he still ended the evening on two points, in spite of the heavy defeat. Palace, Everton and City all approach the double in fine form but Sunderland’s season goes from bad to worse, with last night’s display perhaps causing many Fantasy managers to think twice over drafting in the Wearsiders right now.

    Cash out with betfair?

say if I was to back a golfer this week at odds of around 50's. If he was to have a good first round say two shots off the lead. What sort of odds would they offer?

Silly question I know but I never used it before and i might want to use it this weekend for the golf

It's entirely dependent on the situation and quite hard to predict unfortunately! Betfair's odds (if you're on the exchange -which I think you have to be to cash out) are determined by the customers and where the money is going. I'd do a trial run or low money practice run if I were you.

    Bring in Barkely or Puncheon?

Barkley has better fixtures + plays for a side that's better going forward/scores more goals , but risk of starting on the bench

Puncheon is nailed on, in good form but fixtures aren't as great and Palace don't score that many goals/ aren't as good going forward

risk for game time himself with the ankle injury he's been carrying.

He could be withdrawn early for a player like Milner if either game looks secure (or if they need to hang on to a tight lead against Liverpool).

Not that they're privy to any special info that we aren't, but the City forums are pretty unanimous that he will start. Fairly even split between: a) starting alone b) with Dzeko and c) with Negredo.

They all seem to think that Negredo looked to be getting back to his old self last week and none of them really trust Dzeko not to squander chances.

But Pellegrini likes Dzeko and will be terrified of another Aguero injury, although this is THE cup final for City. Probable start for Aguero vs Pool + cameo appearance vs Sun.

I'm not convinced Pellgrini does like Dzeko that much. I think he's had no choice with Negredo so off-form and Kun injured. I think he'll be hoping to go back to the days of Kun & Aguero thrashing all-comers at the Etihad. Negredo was his big signing, remember. That usually influences managers, however humble they might seem.

What, pray tell, are the objective facts of the matter Doos? You can't throw a smug smiley at me, hinting that you're privy to some irrefutable gem of knowledge that resolves all doubt 😛

Come this weekend, Pellegrini will have four fit strikers at his disposal. Last time he had three fit strikers for any length of time, Dzeko was out in the cold. Perhaps Dzeko's recent form will persuade Pelle to stick with him but we don't really know, do we?

                Yes, we do.

                Aguero: 1191 mins 15 goals 9 assists
                Dzeko: 1479 mins 11 goals 6 assists
                Negredo: 1641 mins 9 goals 5 assists
                Jovetic: 264 mins 2 goals 1 assist

                And:

Those are facts about what has happened through various periods of injury to various players, mostly Kun but also Negredo. They aren't facts about what Pellegrini will choose to do with all of them fit.

I see these things but how are they definitive facts about what will happen in the next five weeks? Dzeko has benefited from both their injuries and works better than Negredo as a lone striker. But Pelle won't be forced into a lone striker system. I think it's up in the air and we don't know what will happen, especially beyond this week.

If Negredo and Kun start playing off eachother in training the way they did in the first half of the season, I don't think Pelle will be looking at those figures to make his decision.

I'm not saying any view about who will start is right or wrong. Only that the view that Dzeko is definitely a safe option, simply because he's been scoring lately, is wrong.

He's safer than Negredo or Jovetic though don't you think? Has the form, never issues with his fitness and links uo play well, despite the chances he misses(which i don't think is a problem as city make so many anyway). I find the talking down of him odd, when he's banged in goals left, right and centre recently. I don't think Jovetic will feature much with Aguero fit now. And Dzeko is in better form than Negredo. Pellegrini prefers Aguero with one of Dzeko/Negredo from memory and the former seems to be in the hot seat. Is it because of his cheap price and people thinking it's too good to be true. Not in reference to you, just asking in general.

Perhaps slightly safer, but not totally safe, that's all I mean. Perhaps we're reading the mood of the forum differently but I see mostly talk of him being totally safe, which I don't think is true at all. And I definitely think that when fit, Negredo links up with Aguero WAAAAAY better than Dzeko does.

I don't think Dzeko is safe at all, but it also depends on the system Pellegrini uses. Can see him going with 1 striker at Liverpool and you'd think it would be Aguero. But at home to Sunderland i can see him reverting to two or resting Aguero and Dzeko seems the more likelier to start there over Negredo i think. Regarding his link up play, it's with Silva, Nasr and co in the 1 striker system.

Maybe(like me) we are all worried that if we go for Dzeko, only to find he get's reduced minutes/loses the plot/Kun starts scoring 10+ scores per week......that we won't be able to get Kun in without doing multiple transfers and taking hits.

Plus you´d want to get Aguero in anyway before the end (probably, if he doesn´t get injured again) as they still have one more DGW to come... for someone like me with no city striker at the moment I´d rather get Aguero in now and have him until the end than get Dzeko now and look into swapping him for Aguero later, in which case I´d lose one transfer...

My jaw would drop and hit the floor if Kun started with Negredo. I think 1 on top and it will be Dzeko, thats my gut instinct. If he plays 2 it will be Kun and Dzeko. Negredo looked awful when he came on imho, no self belief atm so Pellegrini won't start him vs Pool.

I like Shaw's fixtures over the next two so i wouldn't want to sell him.

I would want Baines though. Any others you could shift?

There's also going to be some unbearable gloating, particularly around the Aguero situation. I might steer clear for a week 😉 (I know I won't)

Assuming he's passed fit of course (wait for fri news). I am actually tempted if its looking like Aguero is still a doubt.

I doubt Aguero's minutes but if I had to bring him or Dzeko in, I'd choose Kun. I think Dzeko is a decent option if you have him already, but not to bring in.

      How about D)

Barkley / Aguero for Gerrard / Bony?

Newcastle are so reliant on Remy its unbelievable, I can't believe this stat:

    Games without Remy ➡ 10

Goals scored without Remy ➡ 1 (home v CPL)
Goals conceded without Remy ➡ 26

If I decide not to go with Aguero, is this team good enough for the DGW? If Silva is fit of course.

    Speroni
    Zabaleta / Dann / Coleman
Yaya Touré / Johnson / Hazard / Silva
    Sturridge / Lukaku / Suárez

    Boruc / Azpilicueta / Vlaar / Livermore

picture the scene. aguero and silva help man city beat liverpool in a titanic affair. both have put in such great shifts they are pretty knackered.
sunderland roll up following on from their 5-1 humbling at spurs and another confidence sapping loss against everton. pellegrini takes the opportunity to rest silva and aguero. still not trusting negredo or the fitnes of jovetic he decides to play yaya toure up with dzeko as silva is rested. yaya scored another penalty enhanced hattrick. clichy having started the match goes on to assist his 3rd.
    applebonkers commits suicide

    My current midfield:
    Eriksen Hazard Cazorla Sterling Snodgrass

I want to get rid of Snod due to Norwich's appalling fixtures. My options:
    A: Snod -> Ramsey, Cazorla -> Nasri
    B: Snod -> Barkley, Cazorla -> Silva
    C: something else

    What do you think?

Therefore if he drops tonight i would loose anything on my sell price Correct?
