Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 35

It’s Friday afternoon and time to reassess our Sky teams once more. With only five Gameweeks to go, the pressure is on at the top of our mini-leagues – it’s a good idea, then, to take a look at our stats including the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries and current market trends. As always, we also scan ahead to the forthcoming fixtures, offering our preferred captain setup for Gameweek 35.

Gameweek 34 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below is a match-by-match breakdown of the players who won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
Man City vs SouthamptonDavid Silva
Aston Villa vs FulhamLewis Holtby
Cardiff vs Crystal PalaceJason Puncheon
Hull vs SwanseaCurtis Davies
Newcastle vs Man UnitedJuan Mata
Norwich vs West BromYoussouf Mulumbu
Chelsea vs StokeWillian
Everton vs ArsenalSteven Naismith
West Ham vs LiverpoolSteven Gerrard
Tottenham vs SunderlandChristian Eriksen

Midfielders dominate again this week, with only Steven Naismith, who is listed as a forward, and Hull defender Curtis Davies breaking the trend. A number of differential options are making a claim for our XI and could be useful for the run in if you’re chasing a mini-league rival. David Silva (5%), Juan Mata (7.4%), Willian (0.5%) and Christian Eriksen’s 2.6% ownership look the pick of the bunch and fit the mould for players most likely to receive MoTM – playmaking midfielders.

Gameweek 34 Bonus Points

Eight goalkeepers managed five saves or more this week with Adrian and Vito Mannone the top performers with six apiece. Mannone continues to rake in the bonus and is top of the pile with 28 additional points.

In defence, only six players gathered bonus, three for tackles and three for passes completed – full-back Cesar Azpilicueta came closest to achieving both, missing out by 13 completed passes. Swansea’s Angel Rangel leads the way for the defenders with 26 extra bonus points.

In midfield, 13 players earned bonus points – three for tackling and ten for passes. Stoke’s central midfielder Glenn Whelan was the closet to achieving both, missing out by just one completed pass. Cheik Tiote, Morgan Schneiderlin and Yaya Toure are the games top bonus earners with 40 extra points.

One forward managed bonus this week, as Emmanuel Adebayor, who featured in a slightly withdrawn role, racked up 62 completed passes to go with his two-goal haul, vindicating our choice for captain last week.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
RodriguezSouthampton7.98.29%
HazardChelsea8.85.35%
ToureMan City8.64.71%
RooneyMan United9.63.97%
NegredoMan City8.63.10%

A massive shake up considering the amount of active players that still have transfers remaining, with a host of big hitting options finding themselves shipped out. Jay Rodriguez is set to miss the rest of the season. Eden Hazard looks likely to miss a couple of games and, whilst Wayne Rooney has a blank Gameweek, Yaya Toure has recovered from a minor knock. Toure’s team-mate Alvaro Negredo continues to be shifted after a lack of first team opportunities.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
AdebayorTottenham7.66.76%
LukakuEverton8.66.10%
GerrardLiverpool8.15.82%
SturridgeLiverpool9.24.90%
FlanaganLiverpool4.24.09%

Some tactical captain swaps seem to have shaped the market trends with Emmanuel Adebayor and Romelu Lukaku drafted in – probably due to these two being the most obvious routes to maximizing armband options over last/this week. As usual, Liverpool assets make up the rest of the top five due to their pre-season pricing and surprise title-challenge, with Jon Flanagan looking great value at just 4.2m.

Gameweek 35 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the captaincy choices for Gameweek 35 there is a multitude of options due to the additional fixtures.

Our Strategy:
Emmanuel Adebayor (West Brom Away) → Sergio Aguero (Liverpool Away) → Sergio Aguero (Sunderland at Home)

For Saturday April 12’s fixtures there are a few options to consider, with Romelu Lukaku and Adam Lallana making strong claims also as they play Sunderland and Cardiff respectively. However, with Emmanuel Adebayor coming up trumps last week, we’re sticking by our man as he travels to The Hawthorns.

For Sunday 13, a switch to a Man City player looks the best option as although they travel to Anfield for a tough game against Liverpool, they then play again on Wednesday 16 at home to Sunderland – a potential massacre.

Interestingly if you transfer out your Saturday captain for a Man City player you will have ‘banked’ your captain change and can use it after the Gameweek has finished in order to prepare for Gameweek 36.

Isnt the Chelsea games supposed to be held on the 19th? "brought forward a day" in the scout tweets would indicate the 21st, right?..or i have i understood it wrong?

    1) Snodgrass ➡ Lallana (CAR, avl) for -4. Lallana ➡ Mata during the double.

    2) Play Snodgrass (ful) this GW. Snoddy ➡ Mata (eve) next GW.

Gah, not sure on baines all of a sudden. Aguero possibly too risky...starting to think lukaku is the safest since hell probably be most captained and most people have him

If i captain baines, i cant celebrate lukaku scoring, captain lukaku and ill still be chuffed if baines and aguero do well

Plus i have double everton defence anyway

Maybe my Palace defenders sway me here - I can't celebrate a Lukaku goal either way (unless it comes in t'other game of course).

But I don think Baines is the way to go. Even one clean sheet wouldn't necessarily be a disaster, and he should get two.

I think Dzeko will be better value this GW rather than Aguero, think he will be a cameo over the 2 games and even if he starts chances are he may be partnered with Dzeko or the latter will come for him and when he does he gets points.

Well he's staying benched this week for me as I'm not taking a -4. He'll go next week but I'll either bring in someone for 1 week then MATA from GW36
Or I'll just do Haz to Mata straight away for GW35

    Better option for this GW?

    A: Azpi + Eriksen
    B: Stones + Sterling

I calculate 2+8 and 8+2 for them both.

    Which one?

    A. Keep Terry and hope he plays (Burner, also a doubt is the only back up)
    B. Burner > Stones -4
    C. Terry > Baines -4

    Thanks

Then he would need one more transfer to ship out Baines, for the difficult run of Everton.

Don't know for sure, need to see your team. Its important to play XI players, and score max points.

Maybe Mertesacker -4 is better than Baines - 8 ? Or somebody in the midfield?

B as I'd want Terry for the rest of the season. I do think Terry will start tbh but it's a bit of a risk having no bench.

      Eriksen - easy-peasy fixtures

(I would prefer Ramsey if he shows his previous form)

I went for Eriksen. I ruled Lallana out as I know I don't want to keep him until end of season and I don't want to take 4 point hits unless necessary.

Ramsey is risky as Arsenal have been poor and he has not proved he will replicate his early season form.

Silva is in better form just now. The only downside is he is carrying an ankle injury which may rule him out in future games.

so i have Hazard, do i sell him for Silva for a 4 point hit or do i bench him and play Eriksen?

    My team

    MANONNE
    BAINES - Fonte - WARD (Chester/Turner)
    PUNCH - NASRI- Eriksen-Gerrard (Hazard)
    Lukaku (C) - Suarez - Djoko.

Ok guys, Silva or Nasri, which would you go with on the basis that

with Silva - Couldn't get Rooney if he was fit and would only have 0.1 leeway on prices if I wanted to keep Baines (assuming no Rooney) over getting a United defender or Kos

with Nasri - no issue with Rooney/Baines

      Nasri.

Silva, with niggles, is always risky... can get injured anytime soon. If you can afford a transfer though, you can get Silva.

I have lost so many points transferring him in and out, that I don't want to take the risk.

Rooney has also been the same this year - combination of blanks and injuries, but he returned enough points to make that feasible.

      Silva.
now with Kun back he gets even better.

Though Nasri's 5% below ownership and form as well, could be tempting.

I'm just worried that 0.1 leeway in prices will push me to make early transfer decisions that i don't want to make. The extra 1.4 could prove useful in covering rises and allowing me to get punts and allows Rooney if he's fit

or just downgrade any other player?
